These guys typify the reason tow companies have a shady, shitty reputation. The fuel pump went out on my Durango and I was stuck in the parkinglot of the Safeway on 28th and Iris in Boulder. Not having any experience with towing in Boulder I went with the first one that popped up on a quick search. I was quoted a price over the phone which sounded reasonable ($80 for a 4-wheel drive Durango SLT) to get it over to the independent Dodge repair shop that I've been to before about 2 miles away. The guy shows up, gets my rig on the tow and then starts flipping through a couple of different 3-ring binders all with different dates on them. Then he makes a call and tells me that it's actually going to be $150 because my truck is 4-wheel drive. I tell him that the person at dispatch knows it's a 4-wheel drive and she quoted me $80. He tells me she doesn't know what she's talking about, shuts his door and starts up the tow truck and places it in gear. At this point, I'm thinking that I just got swindled as he's got my truck on up on the tow and about to take off with my truck to impound if I don't go along with the scam. SO I agree to it. We get to the Dodge repair shop and I inform the guy that my father has offered to pay for the tow because he felt sorry for me being swindled like that and I am going to phone to get the CC # from my dad. Well, apparently this was the wrong thing to say to the tow guy because he COMPLETELY lost his sh*t. He flipped out and said that he is taking my truck to impound and starts swearing at me and takes a threatening posture with a cheater bar in his hand. At this point, the guy at the Dodge shop notices a commotion and walks out asking what in the world is going on. The tow guy says to him that he, "is in danger of not getting paid." Which, is compete bullsh*t and I am not even sure where he got that from. The Dodge repair guy then calms the tow guy down as I call to get the CC # and pay the assh*le. After the payment is made, the tow guy (Marv's tow guy) says, "it's a hot day and I'm pissed off". I tell him that if he doesn't like hot weather then he shouldn't be living/working in Boulder, CO during the summer and he speeds off in a cloud of dust. These guys are not doing themselves any favors by ripping people off with scams and having meth-head jerks like this guy out on calls. DO NOT USE THESE A-HOLES. read more

We got towed and when we went to get our car the service was very rude and it took a long time. The tow guys were nice and helpful, but the people answering the phone were rude and bitter. We waited for an hour to get the car. read more

Last Saturday I had a 5-star experience with Marv's Towing. i inadvertently locked myself out of my car with my cell phone also locked in there. The guy at the Shell station where it occurred was super kind and helpful although he did not seem to speak much English he allowed me to use his telephone and since he did not have a phone book to look up a locksmith I called the local P.D. The dispatcher there was super helpful and recommended Marv's, stating that in addition to towing they also help with lockout situations. i called Marv's and they arrived to help me in less than half an hour. It was not an easy job. My car is older and a method that usually works didn't work so well for my car. They kept trying on both doors of the car until they got it open. The price was reasonable especially compared to what a locksmith would have cost. And no, I don't have triple-A. Anyway, the guys from Marv's were so great, I was really impressed with them. I would recommend them for anyone needing a tow, or in a lockout situation. Maybe there are other services they provide. If so, I would recommend them for that, too! read more

Once upon a time, my boyfriend and I were stranded at our campsite in the mountains. Have you ever had to push-start a car because the starter motor was dying? Well, in the mountains, with only two people to push, you only get one shot. It didn't work, and we needed a tow to get out of a low point in the road. We called AAA first, expecting that they'd send someone from Marv's as usual. There was only intermittent reception, so we were able to place calls about one in every dozen tries, but nobody could call us back. We called a couple of times to check in, but the AAA agents ended up spending hours trying (with honest and earnest effort) to pinpoint our location, because they were in some phone bank in another state, and couldn't interpret it from locally-based directions. We encouraged them to just call the local tow contractors (last we knew, Marv's) and tell them the local directions, because we were sure locals would understand them and know the area. My boyfriend was waiting by the main road when a Marv's truck drove by; it turned out that driver was on an unrelated call, but he stopped when my boyfriend waved, and informed us that AAA doesn't work with Marv's anymore (we later found out from our own driver that this was AAA's decision). The passing driver regretfully wished us luck (and stopped on his way back as well, to ask about progress. Nice guy). Anyway, after five hours of a whole lot of nothing, it was apparent that AAA's dispatchers -- and what we later learned was their own new private fleet of drivers -- wouldn't be able to find us. But that gets us to the good part, calling Marv's; this is a review about how spectacular Marv's is, not the huge mistake AAA has made by ceasing to contract them! The Marv's dispatcher was very understanding; it seems they've had an increase in calls since AAA dropped them. He said a driver would be with us within the hour, and he was right; in a quick blip of reception, we managed to get on the phone with our driver, who also needed to clarify our exact location. However, he knew the area well enough that he had already begun on his way -- he'd headed a long way around due to his truck being too long for the cutbacks coming up the direct route. (Now that's the kind of local knowledge we were talking about!) We gave a couple more details about the forest road we were on, and he estimated 15 minutes, then arrived in 10. Some tow truck drivers are just tow truck drivers, doing their job and leaving it at that. But the job attracts a certain kind of helpful people, who are just naturally talented heroes, and those people make an art of the profession. If you meet him someday, you'll know him as James. His last name will be kept to the thank-you card I'm sending to his supervisors, and I hope they name an award after him. That said, for this review, I'll honor the moment when my boyfriend and I exchanged a look and silently agreed "We got a badass over here" -- the moment when James loosely chucked a tow hook under the car and it latched with near-telekinetic precision, not to mention style and flair. Because of this, our driver will henceforth be known as Batman. I can't paint with words how skillfully Batman handled every bit of the operation. Watching him work on the uneven, rocky forest service road was like watching an artisan shaping a temperamental material; he used the maze of levers on the side of the truck to finagle astoundingly precise raisings and lowerings, never scuffing a bit of our car on the abundant giant rocks, manipulating physics in enviably subtle ways. (This guy must be a god at moving furniture through awkward doors.) This was only matched by how impressively he could turn an enormous truck around in single motions, on a road where we'd seen passenger vehicles make seventeen-point turns more often than not. Not only all this, but Batman also had driven plenty of junker cars and understood our problem well; the strategy was to tow it to a high point for more jump-starting, and he ended up teaching us how to pop-start a car in reverse, and even helped attempt to pop-start the car himself when we struggled with getting it to engage. He answered lots of questions, gave good advice about the engine's character and sound, and ultimately solved our problem by trying a super powerful jump from the truck (which, with two alternators working hard, still took some effort to bypass our starter motor). Batman had one surprise still in store for us; both he and the dispatcher had prepared us for the worst-case scenario about the fee for the tow, but as soon as the car started, Batman informed us that he would be able to charge us a minimal fee for just the jump, even with all the time he'd spent. Further, he was obviously delighted to spring that happy ending on us. We knew that Marv's was great, but I think they should create a subscription service to compete with AAA. We're in! Next time you call, ask for Batman, tell me what happens. ;) read more

These guys are scam artists, plain and simple, who prey on accident victims and students at CU. Ask for the CSP/PUC contract prior to paying for anything! My son is a student at CU who was in a fender bender on US 36. His car was towed by these guys via the CSP. They took the car to their impound lot. Once unhooked the car started and was driveable but they refused to let my son drive it from the lot stating they could only release it to the registered owner, even though the CSP case report was marked NO on the hold order. I was out of town on business and they told me that I would need to send them a notarized letter and the storage fee was $30 per day. - How many students at CU are driving cars registered in their parents names and live out of town? (Scam #1). They have this release requirement posted and state it's a policy of the CSP/CO PUC - it's not! The CSP Towing Carrier Contract states in Section G.4. that release is at the discretion of the towing carrier UNLESS the CSP requests a hold. Also, "If a vehicle is to be driven from the storage lot, the towing carrier must ensure the vehicle is registered, insured and will be driven by a licensed, sober driver" My son fulfilled these requirements. I also provided my id over the phone and offered to email them a photo of my id. I was told no. (Scam #2). As for the price of the tow, they charged my son $305 to go about 5 miles. They claimed that it took them 1 & 1/2 hours and that by contract with the CSP they were required to charge $205 per hour, they could not charge less. - another lie. The contract states that the rate of $205 per hour is the MAXIMUM. First paragraph of the CSP Towing Carrier Charging Rates contract states: "Towing rates may be less than those listed but shall not exceed the maximum allowed ($205) by the PUC". It also states that "the towing carrier will provide owner with documentation of all costs in excess of one hour" they did not provided any rationale. Their rates are egregious and the most they can get away with. (Scam #3). They told my son that if he was willing to turn over the title of the car to them that they would be willing to waive the storage fee. So in other words, they are willing to take a car that starts and is driveable off your hands and give you $30 for it - or hope that the time the owner can get a notarized letter to them racks up enough charges to make it worth it I guess. Fortunately, I live local and was able to pick up the car in one day and I don't begrudge a towing company for being paid for their services but the owners/operators are dishonest scammers. As for the service of the tow crew no objections, but the women who work the desk - they perpetuate this scam and aren't pleasant about it. So I decided to write this review to warn others who have students at CU. My next letter is to the CSP and CO PUC to get these guys suspended and maybe teach them a lesson in business ethics. read more

I'm writing this review after a great experience with Marv's. Actually a while after because I was telling my friend last night about how they helped me out during the flood and she said I should give them a review given that they had negative reviews on here. When the flooding hit Boulder I was out of town for work. I had no way to personally move my car, so I called them and they said they could move it to higher ground for me. They didn't have the key so it was an extra $25, which was fine with me, and they called me before the actual tow and then afterward when I called them they confirmed that the tow had worked successfully. The driver texted me a couple of questions about precisely how to find my car and was responsive when I texted or called him. Overall I feel like these guys saved me massive anxiety when I was stuck out of town and worried that my car was going to be washed away. It turns out my apartment building garage didn't flood, but I was pleasantly surprised and how on top of it these guys were given that others on Yelp had been so unhappy. Absolutely would use again and recommend. read more

In the past two years, I have used Marv's a lot. Luckily, these guys made a few painful car situations much, much, much less frustrating. No one likes getting their car towed, but everyone likes seeing a friendly face who shows up quickly, does their job efficiently and keeps in contact with you throughout the process. Marv's is awesome. I had my car towed FOUR times in the last two years because of engine problems, and I always used Marv's because they are nice, efficient and communicative. In my most recent instance, they told me it might be an hour, but then called back and said they would be there in 15 minutes. A few weeks ago, I used Marv's to tow my car back to my house after it was totaled. The driver gave me information on how to get the cost of the tow reimbursed through AAA, so I didn't pay a dime. Like a lot of people, I tend to get flustered and frustrated with car repairs and problems. Each Marv's driver has been sincere and understanding, and never talked down to me, even when I was at the point of tears when I learned my car was totaled. These guys make crappy car situations less crappy! read more

I got off work last night to find that my car would not turn on. I was referred to Marv's through Geico this morning, and within half an hour, the tow truck was on site and ready to take my car for repair. Unfortunately, the driver dropped my car off at the wrong destination despite my suggestion that it was not the right place. The driver was friendly and worked quickly, but because of his mistake, I'm having to wait longer and pay more for repairs. read more

Today I got a problem with my battery. It was dead because I left lights turned on and the car is old. The towing company came very fast, even earlier than I expected. I appreciate this very much. I had a great experience using Marv's service. During a snowy day my car got stuck and we got a flat in our tire. Frustrated at the order of events I called AAA and they sent out Marv's Towing Service. I got a call within minutes letting me know the guy would be there in less than 25 minutes. Despite the inclement weather he was there in 10. Tyler from Marv's towing was efficient and very knowledgeable. He changed my tire in no time and made what could of been a really crappy morning a much more positive one. read more

I called Marv's for a tow. Like most people comments they came late. They had told me it would take 20 mins after 30 minutes I called, they said it would be 10 mins. The tow arrived after 45 mins waiting outside. That is ridiculous at least estimate better if that is what your doing. I called them over the phone prior to have them tow my car and I was told one price but once my car got dropped off they said another. Never using there services again, very disappointing. read more

Batman, my Boston Terrier, accidentally locked me out of my car this morning while I was warming it up and scraping ice off the windows. Dogs are dogs, what are you going to do? I live behind a tire shop, so I went to ask them for help. They said they didn't have any kits to pick car locks, and told me to call Marv's and they'd unlock it for free. So I gave them a call, and told them I am locked out with a little dog in the car and to rush over (hey, a life is a life, human, animal, or reptile). Took 30 minutes for them to come down here. They told me it'd be $45 up front unless I called AAA. I call AAA, and of course that call takes another 10 minutes to complete. All in all, this was a 45 minute nightmare to get back into my car. ... hey, Marv's got the job done just fine, that is most important. It was just wayyy too slow for my liking (hey, I'm a Coastie), and I should've been able to just give them my AAA after they did it, rather than go through the time and hassle of actually calling AAA before doing it. read more

Great job!!!! I slid off of our mtn. road and into a deep (we are talking very deep) ditch - my car was at a 45 degree angle with one tire in the air. I figured the snowy conditions of the day would mean I would have to wait hours for help. Marv's had someone there in 30 minutes!!!!! Brent was so nice, so helpful and did a fast and efficient job. He had to pull me out sideways due to the position of my car and the sharp curve in the road. I had never seen it done this way. He was smiling the whole time and loving his job. He said he has happily been working for Marv's since the 90's. I am not sure I have ever met anyone so happy with their job (especially in such nasty weather) so I figure Marv's must treat him very well. I will call Marv's every time I need help. Spencer came out and ran a diagnostic test on my car battery which wouldn't hold a charge, and he replaced it on the spot. I mentioned that I had a dentist appointment I was trying to make it to and he ensured me he would do his best to make it happen- and he did! After a brief trip into the mountains and heading back down we realized our van won't make it down without trouble. We stopped at realization point and called Marv's towing .. It was the weekend and nobody but Marv's answered their phones. ,,, we called and they said they would be there, .. Sure enough 35 mins later There they were not only with the correct towing vehicle but with a friendly and more than happy to help Gentlmen by the name of Bruce... Marv's towing is simply amazing! Quick, friendly, and incredibly skilled! I live up Sugarloaf, west of Boulder, and woke up to 4"+ of snow and no fuel pressure in my Volvo. After some thorough investigation (including a number of helpful calls to my favorite mechanic, Chan Foreign Car), it was clear that my fuel pump was bad and I was going to need a tow. The snow was continuing to pile up and my steep, winding driveway, which is treacherous on a dry summer's day, seemed to preclude any hope of a tow, but I decided to call AAA to get the ball rolling. Expecting a tow several days later when the weather cleared (I was safe and comfortable in my house), I was shocked when the nice lady at AAA came back and told me the tow driver would be there in 90 minutes or less! My next thought was fear for the driver (and my car), as I knew it was going to be no easy feat to get my car out and down to town, and I could just imagine the truck stuck in halfway up my driveway with my Volvo in tow (or worse...). Lo and behold, 45 minutes later, Brent, a friendly, knowledgeable, confident driver, showed up in my driveway. With preternatural skill and precision (and with a couple tricks up his sleeve), he dragged my AWD Volvo (I mention All Wheel Drive as means the car must be towed with all wheels off the ground!) up my driveway like it was nothing! Marv's is now officially my go-to towing company. read more

Every experience I've had with their Boulder branch has been fantastic. I've used them 4 times in the past year, 3 tows and a flat tire, and every single technician has been friendly, polite and courteous and always on time (very accurate ETA). I dealt with a young man named Lonnie today who was a sweetheart. Poor thing had to come help me out in this nasty snowstorm but did it with a smile. Their receptionist/scheduler is very nice too. They're the only towing company I will use. read more

My car decided to have a fuel problem this morning and would not start. I called Marv's and they said they would have a driver to my place in half an hour. In less time than that here comes Dave. He is a wonderful person and he suggested that my car's fuel pump just needed a little help to get started. He got my car running so I could drive it to my mechanic to have it looked at and saved me the cost of towing. Any company that is willing to help a customer like that instead of being all about making money is a 5 star company all the way! read more

I have never had an even remotely positive experience with a tow truck company and Jesse and marvs towing totally changed my outlook.
