We ended up going with R-60 in our attic on the 2nd floor, and above our bonus room to give us the biggest impact on the work being done. The work was able to be done quickly, and since our HVAC has had to run much less than before the job, well worth the investment! I obtained quotes from five companies in the area that do residential home insulation. After having…read moremy home gutted out from a botched roof job, I needed to replace the insulation in the attic. The young man from "Home Comfort" that came out to give me a quote was very pleasant, but most important, was well informed and knowledgeable of his business explaining the various types, qualities, functions of the products they carried/installed. The price was well below the others which honestly, somewhat concerned me. They say you get what you pay for. After all has been said and done, I ended up with a superior product, excellent job, and saved a fair amount of money. Quite a fair amount. One thing that impressed me, Especially in a booming housing market, was the fact that they were extremely accommodating on the scheduling. It seems everybody is so busy and chasing the dollar that unless your schedule accommodates them they're almost impossible to get to do the work. With all the subcontractors that have been working on my home, scheduling it's rather difficult in trying to coordinate the various people. I had to change The installation appointment several times, which I believe most people would've just dropped me after the second time. Jacob, the person from home comfort, was very accommodating very understanding and had no problem with it. That was extremely important to me because my crystal ball is broken and I wasn't able to tell what was going to happen in the future. Even if you decide not to go with this company, you should do yourself a favor and at least give them a call. I think you wound be glad you did. Ask for Jacob. (The guy I worked with)

I initially called for a repair as my AC motor died. They diagnosed it promptly and offered the fix. Trane repairs are not cheap and my refrigerant was retired by the industry. So, we replaced our AC and Heater at the same time. Their initial offering was at the budget model from Goodman but I didn't want a system that would only last 10 years. I wanted something that woud pair with my replaced Trane system and last over 25+ years. They recommended Amana as their high end and it has a lifetime warranty. However, I was not told I needed to register these units within 60 days to keep that extended warranty. So luckily, I read the fine print and completed that. Its almost been two months and the systems are working well! I highly recommend this team for any installations and repairs.

Chase did the estimate and gave me a very good price. I priced out the materials and it would cost me more to do it myself. His techs were friendly and efficient. I hired Four Seasons to seal air leaks throughout my home, add blown-in insulation to the attic,…read moreand install a solar attic fan. With the tax credits, the price seemed reasonable and I was excited to have the help since I was getting burnt out on constant home improvement projects since moving in. The work was supposed to take most of the day to complete and I took an hour off work in the morning to let the crew in and show them around. On the day the work was scheduled, the crew showed up an hour late so I had to take additional unscheduled time off work even though I had already burned an hour of leave. Off to a bad start. Quinn, the salesperson who scheduled the work, called me to apologize and told me that he would discount the work by $100 to make up for the inconvenience. This made me feel better for a little while, until Chase (the owner) later told me that Quinn had over-promised and they wouldn't be honoring the verbal discount. When I got home that evening, I walked through the house and went down the list of things that were included in the bid: seal windows, bathroom fans, duct boots, recessed lighting, add weatherstripping and attic insulation. The caulk work around the windows wasn't continuous and I had to scrape caulk off my kitchen floor. Several windows hadn't been caulked at all. I checked the bathroom fans. One of them had been sealed, but the other had not. The other work was completed as promised. When Quinn came back to perform the post-audit (5 weeks after the work was performed), we walked through the house and I showed him the areas that had been missed. He agreed that the work was incomplete and scheduled the work to be completed the following week (6 weeks after the original appointment). After the crew came out to do the followup work, I found that one window and one bathroom fan still hadn't been sealed. I pointed these out to Chase when he came to do a walkthrough 2 weeks later (8 weeks after the original appointment). The crew came out again 4 weeks later (12 weeks after the original appointment) to finish the caulk work, and did indeed apply caulk to the window that had been missed as well as adding additional caulk to some of the windows that had already been sealed - but this time they used silicone caulk instead of painters caulk, so I'll need to scrape all of that off next time we paint. I'm very disappointed in the quality of work and in the length of time it took to get this company to simply check off the items on the bid. On top of that, they created an uncomfortable situation by asking on 3 separate occasions for me to sign the "Completion Certificate" from Foundation Finance, promising that they would still come out and finish the work even after I signed it. The Certificate says right on it: "Home repair contractors are prohibited by law from requesting or accepting a certificate of completion signed by the owner prior to the actual completion of the work to be performed under the home repair contract." Chase and Quinn are both great salesmen, but if you work with this company in the future, make sure you double check the actual work before calling it a day.

We recently went through the process of having to replace our entire roof and got six different…read morequotes from companies. Hawaiian Built roofing was one of the companies we worked with. They were actually in our top two for who we wanted to work with. Even though we ended up not working with them I will say the biggest pro we had for them is that they communicated very well and even made modifications to the roofing quote and met with us a second time in person. The main reason we ended up not working with them was because we didn't feel like they were living up to their "apples to apples" guarantee. In the contract they gave us to look over they stated that if you could a roofing company that would do the exact same job but for less than they would refund the difference and give you a $50 gift card. I ended up getting multiple other quotes that used the same shingle, had the same process for underlayment (ice and water shield, starter shingle etc), however they were roughly $3000-$5000 less than Hawaiian, and they included the Valley Metal. I shared all of this with Saundra and they came back with Option 1 - doing the metal valley and doing ice and water shield on 100% of the house. For the same cost $35,000. Or option 2 - A traditional valley package that would reduce the price by $1500. She also offered to come over to take a more detailed look of everything, which we took her up on. After meeting with her and going over everything she told us that Certainteed was having a sale on some colors of shingles and she would look at those and get back to us. She was able to get the Certainteed in a specific color for $33,000 or the Malarkey Vista in Storm Grey for $33,000. We did some more research and learned that it's not recommended to put ice and water shield on the entire house as it can cause condensation build up if its not put in 100% correctly. We also learned that the Malarkey shingles are a better quality than the Certainteed. The Malarkey also has a better warranty overall. At $33,000 they were still $3,000 over the other company that we were considering that was going to use the Malarkey Vista. After my husband and I talked about it we decided that we didn't feel like they were standing by their apples to apples guarantee. My husband also felt like Sandra was "putting down" other roofing companies. I didn't see it as much as he did. I took what she was saying as trying to explain why their company was "better" than other companies by focusing on the fact that they don't subcontract out etc. I will say that when we told the other company that we were choosing between them and Hawaiian they said "that makes sense, they are our biggest competition." The company we chose doesn't subcontract out either, we made a point of asking and checking the contract for it. We ended up going with the other company who got us the Malarkey Vista shingle with a 50 year non prorated warranty for a couple thousand less than their original quote due to deal they were having. I wouldn't have minded working with Hawaiian Built Roofing, but wasn't willing to pay $5000 more for the same system.
