We had a pipe burst in the ceiling and lost all of the insulation above. Mark was able to come out the next day and take a look at the job and was able to get it taken care of the same day (how often does that happen with the all of the building construction going on in Boise these days?). He also noted where the tenting over the new water lines was incorrect/poorly done, as well as some missing insulation on an outer wall near those pipes. His guys came in and sorted everything out, added the new insulation in record time AND left the area as clean as they found it. I appreciated the friendly, rapid, and professional service. I purchased a brand new house in 2004. I couldn't understand why my master bedroom & bathroom were like a freezer in the winter & an oven in the summer. I asked Mark Kramer with Acme Insulation to try to determine what the problem was. He crawled into the attic space starting off in the garage in order to access these rooms. He discovered that the access to these rooms were blocked with boards. Can you believe it, there was absolutely no insulation above the bathroom & bedroom. He was amazed my pipes didn't freeze & burst. I was furious. My 1 year warranty was expired & I had no recourse to make this builder correct the problem. It was apparent the insulator he used was sub-standard. The insulation company is Marv's who has been around a long time. This insulator apparently does not check on the work their employees complete. Stay away from this company. It was clear to me that Mark was thorough in determining what needed to be done & that his insulators did quality work. They were very courteous & made sure to clean up before they left. We have been having serious heating and cooling issues in both our upstairs bonus room and upstairs master bedroom (two separate upstairs) since the day we moved in in 2012. For several weeks each summer when the temp hit it's highest, my husband and I would actually make a bed on our downstairs living room floor because it was too hot to sleep in our own bed. This last winter our bonus room bathroom pipes froze solid. In any temp above about 85 outside, both rooms were like an oven. Colder temps meant that they were ice cold. walking up the stairs to each room you could actually feel the temperature change as you walked. Our house was built as a custom home in 1998. We decided it was time to have someone come figure out why we were so miserable both during the winter and summer in both rooms. After having two separate companies come out and give us bids and what seemed to be half-assed solutions to the problems, we decided to get a third opinion and had Mark come over. We could immediately tell Mark knew what he was talking about and he gave us a solution that we felt would actually solve our issues. One of our bonus room attic storage spaces was basically completely wide open to the outside, therefore our pipes in the bathroom on that wall were exposed to outside temperatures. Mark said he could make that side of the bonus room up to code which would be a huge help, but without also remedying the opposite side of the room it would kind of defeat the purpose. Our bedroom side of the house had zero attic access to see if the insulation was up to par, therefore both other companies had said there was absolutely nothing we could do and we'd just have to live with the issues on that side of the house. After seeing how shoddy the work was around our bonus room, Mark suggested that we go ahead and cut access points in the drywall in our bedroom and master closet in order for him to check it out for himself and see if we could make it better (since we needed an access anyway to be up to code). Judging by the issues we had been having and how terrible the other side was, we decided we needed to do it right. He told us exactly where to cut the accesses and how big to make them in order for him to be able to reach all around. Sure enough, the insulation was not as it should be. Mark told my husband to go ahead and remove the existing insulation around the bonus room in order to save us the money of having his crew do it. Mark's crew showed up as planned, worked from mid morning and stayed until after we were finished with dinner to get the job done. Mark came in the morning to instruct them on exactly what he wanted done and then he came back in the afternoon to check progress. The crew was pleasant, stayed on task the entire day, were able to answer questions as we thought of them, and cleaned up after themselves. Fast forward 6 months to now....WHAT A DIFFERENCE this has made for the comfort of our entire home! We have had several 100 degree days this summer where it has been completely comfortable in both upstairs. Our bonus room has not even needed a window AC...last year we would have had to run the window AC for 30 minutes before we could even tolerate being up there! Our master bedroom used to be hardly tolerable even with a good portable AC, and in the winter it was ice cold. We have used a window AC just to take the edge off before sleeping only a handful of times this whole summer. I swear that the house AC unit is actually working better and can keep up with cooling the entire house better because it is not fighting the high temps coming from upstairs. Our entire house feels cooler. This was definitely a bigger project than we ever expected, But I am so glad we went with our gut to just get it done right by using Mark instead of going with one of the cheaper guys who was going to put a bandaid on this major problem. Sure the other guys would have made it so our bonus bath pipes might not freeze again, but Mark made that happen plus made our entire house more comfortable. We have a rental property in Boise, ID, and decided that we needed to address some hot/cold spots in our unit. Some rooms would be super cold in the winter and super hot in the summer for no apparent reason, and the tenants were starting to complain. So we made a trip to Boise this winter to address it. We met with a few companies to determine what the problem was. The people from the other companies came out, looked for a few minutes, wrote a bid and left. Only Mark from Acme Insulation really took the time to help us sort out what the problem was. He must have been at our property almost an hour, looking around inside, crawling around in the attic and down under the floor. He suggested a few minor fixes that cost about half what the bids from the other companies were, which made us a bit skeptical at first. But Mark seemed to have a lot of knowledge about the topic that he made us feel like this really was all we needed to do. Because we were in town for only a few days, he was able to get us scheduled quickly and get the fixes in place. His crew was courteous and professional. And they did a great job cleaning up after themselves...something we don't always see with contractors. We could barely tell they were there....except for the temperature change in those rooms! Within a day or two, there was a dramatic difference, and they are now almost exactly the same temperature as the other rooms in the house. (Mark told us up front that it wouldn't be exactly the same unless we wanted to pull the sheet rock off the walls and really attack the problem. Which we didn't.) What a world of difference though! The rooms are comfortable again. Our energy bills for the property have also gone way down since Acme was here. My guess is that by the time winter is over, we'll have already recovered what we spent on the fixes. Thank you, Acme Insulation! I will highly recommend you to anyone I know. read more
