Growing up in a small town in the Midwest one of the many shocks about moving to New York was the quality of medical care. Having a chronic condition I sought out specialists when I came to the Big Apple. One the problems of this condition is a compromised immune systems. I spent a year visiting one disinterested MD after another. Then I found Goldstein. He was suggested by a nurse I was dating. She had worked with him at Mt. Sinai. He has been there since forever and is somewhat of a "great doctor" legend there. (I think he was Maimonides roommate in medical school). So he may be old but he is the most qualified doctor I have ever met. He certainly keeps up! I have seen him for a little over three years now and I wouldn't consider seeing anyone else. First, he prescribed the only drug that has ever truly helped my condition (and with no side effects). Its whats called off-label use. That is, it is not usually prescribed for my ailment but it seems he has seen it work for other similar suffers. Frankly, he knew more about my "condition" than any of the so-called experts I saw. I found out he is dual board certified. Something you seldom see in a general practitioner. Best of all is his availability. Although he is very busy he seems to work all the time. In a crisis recently he saw me on a Saturday night! I think what makes that most amazing is I have pretty junky insurance. He seems to really care about people and medicine not money. Wow. read more

The absolute best ... Jeff and Brian are both right. How can that be. He is brilliant, knowledgeable, up-to-date, insightful and dedicated. But Brian, he does not have a lot of time for nonsense. If you have a cold he tells you and is not going to waste time (his and yours) holding your hand. However, if you are really sick he springs into action. There is neither a better diagnostician nor more skillful physician in this city. He also knows every specialist in town and he is good about getting a second opinion. In over twenty years in this city my family and I have seen many a MD ... he is hands down the best. An former boyfriend (in the medical field) referred me. Lots of MDs and nurses have him as their primary care doctor. That says it all. If you want fancy hand-holding for nonsense go elsewhere. If you want the best medical care in the city of NY he is the guy. That's a big claim ... but I believe it. (By the way he recently moved around the corner ... the phone number is the same but he is now on 96th street off of Park Avenue). I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Goldstein for nearly 25 years, all of which have been as a patient. The recommendation came from a friend who worked at Mount Sinai Hospital, where Dr. Goldstein had taught medicine. With all of the physicians to choose from, Dr. Goldstein was the one that was suggested to me as both highly qualified and kind. Dr Goldstein has given me his time on more than one occasion, where he felt that more than a routine exam was called for. On all of these occasions, subsequent tests proved negative, but were required, considering the symptoms. On a third occasion, perhaps from using my computer in a poor position for so long, two fingers lost a lot of sensitivity. After seeing several specialists, Dr. Godstein reviewd the information. While surgery to relocate a nerve was suggested, as there was no urgency required, Dr. Goldstein suggested that "we" wait and see if it progressed, before taking such a step. The condition has now reversed and the issue is gone. I do not live in NYC any longer, but actually travel there four times a year for my regular medical check-ups with Dr. Goldstein and have done so for nearly 20 years. Yes, old style doc. Like Marcus Welby is an old styled doctor. He is CONCERNED, knowledgeable, with lots of experience (and dual board certified). He spent forty minutes with me and took a detailed history. Exceptional skills. More interested in medicine than insurance (very unusual these days). After two other MDs were unable to diagnose my problem as well as two useless emergency room visits (plus a specialist that told me "its in your head") my friend Jeff referred me to Dr. Goldstein. What a difference! Dr. Goldstein diagnosed my condition (later confirmed by the lab work) and he changed my diet and meds. I HAVE FELT GREAT FOR A YEAR. In one visit he did more for me than everything I had done by a seeming army of medics over many months. He is compassionate, insightful and reminds me of the caring doctors I would see as a little girl. I am so glad I got to him! I never wanted to become an expert on MDs ... but a recent medical nightmare had me bouncing around from doc to doc to doc. I can tell you the good guys and the bad guys ...and this city has many of both. Goldstein is the BEST. I see a yelp reveiw calls him "old style doc". Well if old style doc means taking time to listen, caring, and having lots of experience this is the guy. he is one of three physicians able to help my problem Clearly he is the best. When I couldnt unravel my problem a friend thats a science writer told me Goldtein is considered a superstar. He has many years if experience yet he keeps upto date, He was the only guy I saw that is DUAL board certified. He spent over thirty minutes with me and made more suggestions than everyone else combined (at that point I had seen almost a dozen MDs!) He practices medicine like I remember it. A medical find. In this age of HMO medicine it is a true joy to find a physician that both cares and knows what he is doing. Reminds me of Marcus Welby and the GPs we all grew up with. He is dual board certified and has been on the staff of Mt. Sinai forever. When three docs were unable to find my problem a nurse I was dating suggested Goldstein. He spent well over a half hour with me and had a diagnosis that the other guys missed. After walking around for months with a problem Goldstein had me cured in three days with a simple prescription. He is an older guy but he really keeps up with medicine (one has to to keep their board certification). Its true if you need a doctor ask the nurses he work with. By the way I switched to him as my primary insurance company doc. I have been back to him twice more and both times got gentle care and genuine concern. He is not one to waste time with small talk ... but if I am sick he is the MD I want taking care of me. A find! read more

An absolute find! I was told I had the flu by two MDs and my company doc. I just got sicker and sicker. I certainly needed another opinion. A nurse I know said Dr. G was the best. Was she ever right. He diagnosed my problem (which was serious) and may well have saved my life. If not he sure has hell kept me from getting very sick. I am fully cured thanks to the skills of this star physician. Hospital nurses always know who is great and who is a jerk. My friend Gail (RN) really found me a winner. He is my GP from now on! Kind, compassionate and he takes my crappy insurance. read more

Dr Goldstein spent considerable time. Very detailed. He found my exact problem (where the others had failed) and treated it. I was better in three days. Reminds me of the doctor I grew up with. Spends time and really cares! Yeah, he is old school ... if old school means really cares and really knowledgeable. Dual board certified. This is the way medicine was practiced when I grew up. MDs more concerned with your health than your insurance plan. Yes Dr G is an old-timer but when I was really sick and couldn't find an answer two different people referred me to him. He spent twenty minutes and found the problem others missed!
