This was a nice trail that was short and somewhat hilly. Once we got to the end of the trail we were told that there is another route that goes up to a high hill, we opted to not go any further. The trail was paved on some parts but mostly rocky with dirt. The trail is nestled between housing communities, and luscious greenery and trees covered with moss. The entrance to the park is nestled in a residential area. We parked on the street, no designated parking for the trail.

First time coming here. It doesn't look like a hiking place at first bit there is a small trail header. Beautiful hiking spot with creeks and easy to follow.

We come here for a good hike workout with the kids and this trail never dissapoints! This trail does get a bit windy or chilly, so we carry a light jacket. The trail is beautiful with lots of greenery and tall trees. The trail elevation is really good for a workout! Upto the end it a good 2 hr hike with kids including a short snack break for the kiddos. It is definately on the narrower side, something to be aware of while hiking with kids. The end of the trail is lush green and gorgeous! Cows grazing and nice open greenery with sunlight! It is stroller accessible only for half the trail, up untill the narrow path begins. There are a couple of garbage bins along the trail. No restroom available. Lots of roadside parking.

What a great difficult short trail in a residential neighborhood!! I really really enjoyed the challenge. I would have never thought there was one there. The trail map on AllTrails says this was moderate three mile hike but for first timers, this would be a struggle for them. Good thing, I am a regular hiker. It's a back and forth trail but at the top, we rerouted to some smaller trails making it five miles then three. My friends and I enjoyed the views and the trail. Friendly folks on the trail. This trail is not for bikers. Will be back!! [80/100]

I found this trail and loved the challenge. I would walk it aging. This trail has some steep parts so I recommend shoes with good traction.

Largely shaded trail with some great views of Dublin.

Fantastic shaded trail qith sweeping exposed views at the end. Great for hill training! Options to extend to Donlon Canyon and Loop Trails on more exposed but scenic paths.

So there was a day that I was going to be working onsite at my job place in San Ramon last Tuesday so I decided to do some hiking at Martin Canyon Creek Trail since it's pretty nearby. I parked on the main street which was really easy, and I followed the sign that points me to Martin Canyon Creek Trail. The city trail was nice as it was spacious with a mix of good slight inclines and flats which was perfect for running. Then I reached the end of the city trail sign which has the gate for the "hikers only" trail. I was really excited and a bit anxious to do this trail because of the signage. Lol Upon walking a few steps after the gate, I felt like I was in a forest. It did feel a little eerie in there cause it's so shaded without much sunlight in. I like the shadedness since I'm not a fan of trails that don't have shade because I'm trying not get darker. Lol.. I had my earphones on so I was listening to my music at a low volume. The trail is very narrow with lots of up and downs and curves. I get why they put the "hikers only" sign there as if you're not careful -- you could fall down. I kept on walking until I saw a couple of people heading towards me so I decided to turn around. I must turn pretty fast as I felt I was losing my balance and almost fell which is not good, but luckily, I balanced myself quick. This is going to sound crazy, but I swore I saw something as I started walking back. I know there was a sign about watching out for coyotes, and I felt like I saw a brown animal from the corner of my eyes. I got scared so I freaking ran on that narrow pathway. Did I see an actual animal or was it just imagination? Hmm.. I'll never know. Lol Anywho, I felt relieved to be back on the city trail as I felt safer there versus being in the hikers only area of this trail. I definitely would love to come back again if only I had another person with me as I'm a little scared to do this hike alone again.

Main Entrance. You can park around the neighborhood before you make a left into this community.

Hidden gem in Dublin! An in-and-out hiking trail minutes away from Dublin Blvd. Spacious city trail then leads to a hiker's only trail. Hiker's only trail is a bit steep and narrow, but I do see families and little kids (apparently much braver than I am) going through here. Have yet to make it to the end since I'm a hiking newbie and have a fear of falling. Good elevations on both to get a good workout in. Easy parking in the main street of the neighborhood - Silvergate Dr. I love stopping by here in the weekend mornings. Gets a little busy with families and kids around noontime, but not bad and not nearly as busy as Sycamore Canyon in Livermore. My go-to local spot for a good walk/jog. So glad I found this little Dublin gem!

About a 4 mile loop if you go all the way to the top of the hill and back. I started on Silvergate in the Briarhill neighborhood. It took about 1.5 hour to finish my loop with a stop at the top to enjoy the view. The trail starts with a very easy walk with the sides fenced off, making it pretty easy for anyone to walk the trail. Once you get to the sign "end of city trail" and "hikers only", the roads are not as well paved not fenced off. The incline is steeper and roads are much more narrow. Despite this, I saw groups of families and elderly + kids during my hike! Past the "hikers only" sign you'll be encompassed under a lot of trees and shade. The sight at the "end" is quite obvious, as it was well lit and opened up to a 360 degree view of a blue sky, white clouds, green hills, and a view of Dublin. I saw other hikers continuing to hike other hills/parts but I proceeded back the way I came to head back to where I parked. It would be nice to check out other parts, though. Compared other trails in Dublin, the view isn't nearly as pronounced but I really appreciated the steep/narrow trails for a good workout and how the hike ended with a "light at the end of tunnel" feel.

View from the top. You can see all of Dublin.

This trail is a hidden gem. You access the trail through a gate that say "end of city trail", which is a bit confusing, but open the gate and you enter a secluded path through a forest of shady trees. There's a bit of elevation to make things interesting, but nothing too difficult. It a good workout but won't kill you either.

Entrance to City Trail, right from the residential area

Martin Canyon Creek is located off a quiet residential area in Dublin. We drive by San Ramon Road nearly biweekly to access either 99 Ranch Dublin along with favorite lunch places (Pho Saigon, Tofu House), and did not even know this hiking trail existed! The trail comes in two parts. The first is the City Trail which has an entrance right off Bay Laurel Street on the residential area. Plenty of parking on both sides of the roads. The trail is mostly flat, and a straight shot of about 1.5 miles to the gate at the end. Decent amount of shade, decently-paved path, and views of the hills with houses high up. If you chose to proceed beyond the gate at the end of the City Trail, it becomes an entirely different hike! Narrow (single file), hilly, green and "foresty", and slippery from all those little leaves. I found this part challenging, and as a beginner hiker its probably less safe than other trails for those reasons. More experienced hikers with smaller feet may enjoy this more. On the plus side, there's a good amount of shade here. So for me, 3 stars overall. Note for both the City and the Regional Hill trails there are zero water and restrooms and limited signage available, so plan accordingly. They do have doggie bags available at the entrance and I seem to recall seeing a few garbage cans.

I didn't get to hike the full trail as I had little ones in tow. I'm really glad I found this local trail, it was sooo beautiful. The main part of the trail is wedged in between two residential plots - these residents are so lucky to basically have this as a backyard. Beautiful rocks paving the way, we saw a falcon, shaded trees, lush grass. Such a hidden gem, this was a beautiful hike.

Gorgeous hike, plenty of shade under trees until you get to the top. Park on the street and the hike is at the bottom. We walked a total of about 3.5 miles. Moderate difficulty, uphill there downhill the way back.

"Green Rolling Hills with Lots of Cows--Most Friendly but one Looked at me with Menacing Eyes."…read more I parked at the summit, and took the trail north. It's about 3 miles if you go all the way to the driving range at Bridges Golf Course. At that point the trail peters out. It looks like they are constructing a new trailhead there. The trail is open, so don't count on any shade in the summer. It's pretty much green hills, with a compacted dirt trail. Fortunately, it's not rutted. I found the hike mildly interesting, but honestly, nothing special. Near the golf course practice center, I saw a lot of range balls on the ground. I was tempted to take them, but I threw most of them back onto the range. I'm pretty sure I did not hit anyone, but a few times I heard some klunks, followed by shouts. I wasn't sure what that meant. They might have been mad that I still had 2 golf balls in my jacket. I did not notice I had borrowed some golf balls until I was pretty far away. These trails are good for beginner hikers, since there aren't any wild animals around. I'm pretty sure there aren't any rattlesnakes or mountain lions. But if there are, I did not see them. And even if I did see any, I had some golf balls I could throw at them. The only wild animals are herds of cows. And there are lots of them! At one point I had to go way around a huge herd. I'm not really afraid of cows, but one kept looking at me with menacing eyes and did not budge from the trail. I was afraid of that one. Could it be a boy cow? I was afraid to get close to find out, so I honestly don't know if it was a boy or girl cow. But he or she looked mean. The whole time I went around the cows I kept saying pleasant things like, "Hi Susie," or "Hi Betsy, how are you?" I'm pretty sure they knew I was a friendly man. I was surprised they knew English. So over all, a pleasant hike. Nothing really special, but plenty of parking makes this a convenient location. The incline is really not too steep, so most hikers will find this an easy hike. For yelpers who are geocachers, there are plenty of geocaches on this trail. I put out about 8 new ones, so there will be lots to find. Keep in mind that there really aren't any facilities such as restrooms or drinking faucets. On the other hand, it's really not a very long hike. Just watch out for that cow with the mean looking eyes.

Beautiful hike in the Spring, and a bit hot and dusty in the Summer…read more Be aware, there are many ticks here in the Spring. I went hiking with my friends here in April, and both their dogs had tons of ticks crawling around in their fur. If you are hiking without dogs, tuck your pants or leggings into your socks and avoid the taller grass if you can. You can also spray tick repellent on your shoes and socks before starting. That usually does the trick. Very fun and laidback hike otherwise. We've been visiting this trail for years now, and always have a nice time. Great views, and rolling hills. Can't ask for much else, locally.

"Hot Dusty Trails, but Lots of Free Maps"…read more I love the East Bay Regional Park system, but this is probably my least favorite park. The main trails are just dirt tracks wide open to the elements. You can imagine how it is on a summer day out here. If you enjoy dusty, desert-like environments with no water, and dying of thirst, you'll love this park. I try to come here once a year. Honestly, that's enough. Besides the main staging area, there are a few tricky entrances to the park. In the California Highlands condo complex, there are a few trails that eventually lead into this park. Keep in mind that those entrances are not open to bikes. I found out the hard way. There is an interesting side trail called Donlon Point. I believe it's the highest point in the park. There's a good view up there, plus lots of cow material. There is drinking water and a modern restroom at the staging area. Additionally, there are plenty of free maps at the gate. That's one great thing about the East Bay Park system. They are not stingy about giving out free maps. The day that I visited, the parking lot was nearly empty. You will not have trouble finding a parking spot. On the other hand, there's probably a good reason for that. As a local alternative, I recommend Las Trampas. The trails there are more interesting. Check out the Camille trailhead in Alamo.

Ok this is the "first time" that I write a review on a hiking trail. I just couldn't resist doing…read moreso.. why? It's one of the, if not THE best trail I have ever hiked. My hiking criterias are simple :). They have to give me a good intense workout & with lots of shades, in the woods if possible. It's hard to find a trail with such combination and I found it here. It's also so blissfully quiet, fresh air with smells of the oak trees. First time on this trail and boy was I in for a good surprise! It's a "really" steep, challenging, inclined uphill hike all the way (starting from base to the top) with significant elevation gain every step of the way. Also unpaved with lots of pebbles/rocks along the way. So be sure to have a good sturdy pair of hiking boots/shoes with you. It's a good 4mile roundtrip (two mile each way which takes roughly 1hour to get to the top and another 1hour coming down). The maximum elevation was 1450feet. It's fairly narrow trail and you will find many folks doing mountain biking here .. on the same trail.,So you need to keep an eye out as you hike up and down. I was truly impressed with the cyclists who did the whole roundtrip up the hill as I found myself starting to pant just a 1/4 mile into the hike.. and this is me, someone who does high intensity workout 6days a week with most days double dipped (cardio+strength). Love that it has lots of shades as we walked through the woods with huge fallen trees and eroded land. On our way down we even saw sheeps and stopped to feed them some grasses & hear the bleat, meh and baa sound from their baby sheeps. This is now my top of the list favorite place to hike. Initially I was planning to hit the gym in the evening to do my usual strength and cycling classes.. but I ended up skipping it after that long strenuous hike.

For a long time, it was just a dirty old parking lot and a poorly maintained trail. The big old parking lot is still there, but there are some nice additions behind that area. There's a good-sized parking lot off Tassajara. From this point, the park really doesn't look like much. Well, you're about half right. There is a trail that leads out of the park, and if you go left you join up with another paved trail, sort of like the Iron Horse Trail. This trail is well maintained and looks quite new. If you take the trail out of the rear parking lot and go right, a trail continues next to the US government property for about a half mile or so, then just sort of peters out. There seems to be a homeless person living near this area, next to the creek, close to the US government fencing. I started to go underneath a big oak tree, then spotted some strange looking pieces of trash. I did not go any further. There is a new, well-designed bridge crossing over the creek. Believe it or not, the bridge is actually a site worth seeing--beautiful woodwork along the top edges of the bridge. You can see the giant concrete pieces from an old bridge. If anyone has a photo of the old bridge, please post. The only photo I have shows it in big pieces. There aren't many facilities in this park. There is a big outhouse in the dirt parking lot. That's about it. Oh yes, here's the rest of the story: Near the old parking lot, there are some wood piles. One big log looks like an alligator snout. I admit I jumped when I first saw it. Then, I realized that this area probably doesn't have many alligators. A friend of mine explains that seeing animals in nature is a sign of spiritual wisdom. I'm sure he's right. Check out the alligator photo I posted. Scary, huh?
