Update: I called to see what it would take to get my money back, as we are moving. The owner, Jim Hammons, yelled at me over the phone telling me he'd never give me a dime, said he saw my chickensh*t review, and said some more nasty things and hung up on me! This is a man who 1- calls himself a family oriented business owner, and 2- a man of God. The conversation lasted less than two minutes, and I never raised my voice or cursed or even interrupted. Yet he cussed me out, screamed obscenities, and hung up on me. He screamed "it's not my fault you're moving! I don't care, you get nothing from me!" And that was the last interaction with him. Folks, this man curses and yells at people he's known for twenty years. I treated him respectfully. Truly consider this when you wonder if this is a good place to send your kids. Hypocrisy is not a trait I want my children to learn, and dare you disagree with the man of God Jim Hammons, and you'll see exactly who he becomes.
I no longer believe this place to be the wonderful and family oriented place I originally believed. Our son grew tired of going and was ready to take a break, and it took three phone calls to finally get the membership "canceled". I use quotations because they do NOT cancel your membership, they charge you for an additional three months at $135 a month. The owner, who I've known for twenty years, tried to explain to me that it was easiest on his billing company. I told him my kid was six and had decided to take a break, as I'm sure lots of kids do. He responded that he had tons of kids going since they were 3 or 4! So what? What do other children have anything to do with my own? Then he told me that a three month billing cycle was easier on him but we'd still get three mo the credit because, "I won't make you pay for something you don't use". To which I replied, "so give me a refund and stop taking my money when we're no longer going", but he tried to explain his side again with the same words in a different way. If you're reading this and can afford to throw away $400 because your kid may change his mind, then definitely join. Otherwise, until this deceitful billing practice is exposed and stopped, avoid. I was heartbroken to write this because Jim called us "family" and said he'd known us since I was 14 and had my black belt. Trust me, I didn't want to write a negative review. But family doesn't steal $400 from family and call it billing.
My son has loved going here. Sure, it can be pricey and of course there's always add on options. Whether it's testing, kids night out, date nights, but to me, what important, is my sons happiness and their dedication to family. They are always polite, friendly, respectful, and excited to see us! They knew our names on day two and treated us wonderfully. My son can't wait for his next Taekwondo practice, and moving up in belts is a huge confidence booster. read more
