We ordered several things off the menu. All were better than average TexMex. Good salsa and chips which you pay for. Quick and easy.

10/10 everything. Tacos el pastor and pork Tamles are the best. Clean and inviting, plus a great selection of beverages.

Excellent food and service every time we come here. They make their own chips and tortillas in house and everything is fresh!

First time visit to this small and excellent restaurant…read more Located at the corner of Fry Road and Mound Road it has a restaurant seating area of about 50 and a large bar area for 20 more. The menu is short but includes most of the classics. I had the Seafood Tacos and my wife had the Chicken Mole Enchilada. The tacos were surrounded by a flour tortilla (corn is also available) with fish that can be grilled or steamed. Packed with flavor from the onions, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and more I enjoyed every last bite. The plate included rice, beans, and sliced red onion. Delicious My wife loved her selection as well. The serving was big enough to take home what was not consumed allowing her an extra day to enjoy the mole. We also ordered a side of guacamole which was served as a huge rounded scoop on a plank. Don't get me started on the chips we used to eat every last bit of the guacamole. When we told our waiter, Jose, how much we liked the chips he gave us a bag to take home! I had some today and they were still crunchy with a hint of salt. Now to drinks: my wife had the house Pinot Grigio and I the house margarita which I ordered frozen with no salt. The margarita had a clear lime note but did not suffer from it. All in all we agreed that Carmelita's deserves a return visit next time Mexican food is our choice.

"My Homework Turned Into Date Night (with Myself)" 02-14-26…read more I came here on Valentine's Day to do a writing assignment my professor gave us, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food all the same. When I walked in, the hostess offered to seat me in the private party area. I declined and told her, "I'm here for a writing assignment," and asked if I could sit somewhere with a clear view of the bar. She didn't hesitate. She told me to follow her and led me to a booth with a clean, perfect shot of the bar, front row without having to climb onto a stool. She handed me a menu and told me to enjoy my evening. The bar itself was shaped like an oblong oval ring with gold seats lined up like little lifeboats, almost like a ship's bridge. Above it, about ten flat screens hovered in an oval formation, suspended in the air. Upside-down margarita glasses and champagne flutes hung overhead like delicate chandeliers in an expensive mansion. The bar area was filled with couples and solo diners enjoying the screens, sipping margaritas and champagne, and crunching on complimentary chips and salsa. Customer service was fantastic. My server, Ale, was highly energetic, lively, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I felt very well taken care of during this dining experience, which was supposed to just be a writing assignment, but it turned into a rewarding little night out. The complimentary chips and salsa were also pretty good. The atmosphere was vibrating at a high-energy level. There was loud laughter and conversation all around, the sound of dishes clanging in the kitchen, servers moving back and forth, and bussers scanning the room for abandoned tables to clean. For my appetizer, I ordered the shrimp crab cake along with a Cucumber Melon Margarita on the rocks. Both were absolutely delicious. The crab cake was mouthwatering and delectable, and that margarita was refreshingly fruity and strong, so good I ordered a second one. For my entrée, I ordered the beef fajita plate for one with cilantro rice, charro beans, and corn tortillas. I also added a side of the La Viva Shrimp (bacon-wrapped). I don't eat pork often, so I peeled the bacon off, and even without it, the shrimp was exceptionally tantalizing, full of bold seafood flavor. My entire plate was the bee's knees. I can't even explain how good the food was. Food Ratings Shrimp Crab Cake: 5/5 La Viva Shrimp: 5/5 Beef Fajitas: 5/5 Cilantro Rice: 5/5 Charro Beans: 5/5 Overall, La Viva Cantina is an upbeat, lively spot serving delicious comida with great customer service and an inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend it for date night, or even a solo night at the bar. You won't be disappointed.

Our beers after happy hour were $9 each. The fajita for two special appeared to apply only for beef and chicken together. There was a $10 add on if you order all beef. The fajita meat is cut super thick to make you think you're getting a lot but it was maybe 4 tacos. Pappasitos has a fajita special on Wednesday and it's much better than this food. La Viva is over hyped and over priced. It's also super crowded.

The food was good, flavorful, and satisfying, but I would not say it stood out as amazing or the best Mexican food I have had. I would compare it to the Chili's of Mexican food. It gets the job done, it tastes good, but it is not super authentic or unforgettable. What really stood out was the service. It was truly extraordinary. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel welcoming. That level of service is honestly the main reason I would come back. Price wise, it felt a little high for what you get. I cannot say it was much better than something like Chipotle, even though it was about double the price. That said, the environment makes a difference. The restaurant has a fun, lively vibe, and it looks like they have great drinks and margaritas, even though I did not try any this time. Overall, I would recommend coming here for the atmosphere and excellent service. The food is solid and dependable, just not top tier Mexican cuisine. I would give it another try mainly because of how well we were treated.

My husband asked to be reseated and the hostess was so sweet and apologetic. She made us feel way comfortable about the move and then we also had a delightful server Marissa. The food was great and our guest who'd never been to LT had a great meal. TY to the staff who were very nice and hospitable. Not a lot of welcoming atmospheres in large restaurants these days. It was a great lunch and a super turn around for a rough start. Also it was hard to find your location bc the yelp address is wrong. Someone at corporate needs to google houston. Maybe ask for local help bc I didn't see this location on google either. That's a bad mistake bc people are driving thru and missing this location!! The only reason 4 stars is to get corporate moving on the address change. The map address you have is in Hempstead. That's FAR from cypress. I was actually afraid the location was closed where you are. Not a fun drive (30 min) hoping the restaurant is actually open. Marissa and the local staff are A++++ even the chef came out to check our food was good (love the brunch items!)

"OVERPRICED, UNDERWHELMING, AND LUKEWARM, LITERALLY!"…read more Despite my best efforts, and multiple promises to myself, to stay away due to poor service and subpar food, my husband and I found ourselves back at this establishment for dinner on a Saturday evening after years of avoiding it. The only reason we gave it another shot was because a coworker recently hosted her birthday dinner here, which piqued my curiosity. I will admit, they've made noticeable improvements in both food quality and service, so our experience wasn't all bad. The Positives: From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the host, who informed us of a short fifteen-minute wait, very reasonable. The ambiance was pleasant, with clean tables and inviting decor. Our appetizers and drinks were flavorful and enjoyable. We were also promptly served complimentary chips, salsa, and charro beans, which was a nice touch. Our server, Tony, was polite and professional, though his approach felt a bit robotic. There was no real warmth or connection, which made the service feel transactional rather than welcoming. The Negatives: Here's where things went downhill. Our appetizers and drinks took forever to arrive, so long, in fact, that I joked Christmas might come before our drinks did. When our main course, the $75 trio platter of shrimp, beef, and chicken fajitas, finally arrived, it was lukewarm at best and the chicken was brutally dry and overcooked. The biggest disappointment? While every other table around us was served sizzling, steaming fajitas, ours looked like it had taken a long, lifeless stroll through a graveyard before landing on our table. A cast iron skillet is supposed to retain heat, so why was our food barely warm? To make matters worse, there were barely any grilled onions served with our fajita platter. I don't know if it's just me, but I'm used to fajita platters being loaded with caramelized, flavorful grilled onions. Not this place, though. They gave us about four measly slices, essentially the equivalent of four lonely onion rings sliced in pieces. Talk about disappointment! To top it off, they forgot our side of black beans. Once we pointed it out, they brought them over, steaming hot, ironically enough. So they made sure our side of beans was piping hot, but not our pricey fajita platter? Make it make sense. For a total bill of $189, including tip, I expected better. At these prices, there is absolutely no excuse for serving lukewarm food, especially when presentation and temperature are key selling points for a dish like fajitas. Whether this was a kitchen issue or a lack of urgency from our server, I can't say, but if I were a server expecting a decent tip, I'd make sure my guests were receiving fresh, hot food. Final Verdict: Mediocre at best. This restaurant is held in high regard, yet our expectations were met with disappointment. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you're feeling adventurous, dine at your own risk. Parking is plentiful, the service is slow, and the food? Just okay. But the drinks are delicious.
