I came to this store location for the first time. To my surprise, there were lots clearance aisle areas at this store. The most that I have seen in the Bay Area. Other stores usually only have one or two rows on clearance, this store had at least four or five aisles for women. This Marshalls in El Cerrito, California is hands down one of the best I've ever visited. The store is spotless, bright, and incredibly well organized from the moment you walk in. Every section -- fragrances, handbags, shoes, cards, home décor, and seasonal items -- is fully stocked and beautifully arranged. The displays are neat, the aisles are clear, and the merchandise is easy to browse. You can tell real care goes into how the store is maintained. The deals are fantastic, with great discounts on top brands and new inventory throughout the store. Even the smaller details stand out -- the restroom was clean, tidy, and well stocked, which shows how much pride the team takes in keeping everything in order. The staff deserves special mention. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. They made the shopping experience comfortable and enjoyable, going out of their way to assist without being intrusive. This Marshalls sets the bar high for what a retail experience should be. Excellent organization, great prices, and wonderful customer service -- I left completely impressed and will definitely be returning! The store was well stocked, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was nice to walk in there and see full shelves. So many stores have empties for whatever reason but Marshall seems to have fixed this problem. They are new in the neighborhood and they are now hiring. It's good to see that little bit of competition come in to the shopping center here. We went in looking for specific items and found them all, and I brought my friend here to do his shopping as well. He was very happy with everything from customer service to the quality of merchandise. read more

It's a beautiful store. Whether or not it will last is another thing. But it looks nice and shiny. The store is well laid out. A difference is that in the previous store I felt like I didn't want to explore much. It was kind of dingy, but this one has been scrubbed down and rebuild from the studs up. I was just looking around because I had ice cream in my car, but I did notice that the signs make it easy to navigate and know where things are. I could also see that the back where the home goods, cooking utensils and bath towels were had the potential to become super messy. I hope it's take care of in a timely fashion. These stores may have good prices but it's hard to want to work there when it looks sloppy and mismanaged. They have five stars because I'm hoping that doesn't happen. read more

Marshall's has moved into the space that Bed Bath & Beyond occupied in the El Cerrito Plaza and I have been intending to check it out. This afternoon I went w/ a mental shopping list and found several things not on it and didn't find one of the things, a cooking tool I don't know how to name but I used mine to stir my sautéed spinach before the tool disappeared. I found parking right in front, although the parking lot was surprisingly crowded for a Monday. I walked in and the store looked spacious and clean, shopping carts lined up in an anteroom rather than outside as they were w/ Bed Bath & Beyond. I wasn't interested in clothes, but did look through the underpants until I found something acceptable. Next to the intimate apparel was housewares and I found marinated artichoke hearts and a mixture of the Ghirardelli chocolate squares. The latter will be perfect for Halloween, since we've started having kids coming door-to-door over the past couple of years. Continuing through the housewares I found a set of queen size sheets, one of the things on my list, a soft green to replace another set of sheets in a boring dark beige. I loved that the sheets came w/o plastic packaging, instead wrapped in a bag made of the same material as the sheets, although on reflection, I'm not sure how it can be recycled. The cardboard inside is recyclable. I found a fine looking blue bathmat and some soft green towels, so I scored pretty well. I also found a large bottle of argon shampoo. I got into the line to check out and looked at all the temptations in the racks beside the line but didn't succumb. After a not unreasonable wait it was my turn. A sweet young man rang up my items and asked if I wanted to apply for one of their credit cards to get 10% off and I declined. My final temptation was a bag of candy corn, which I have loved since childhood, but I resisted again and once it's out of my sight I'm good. He helped put my items in the cart and I went out to put them in the bags in the back of my car. read more

Had to minus a star for the customer service from the cashier lady handled my return. She was acting like she didn't want to do the return. I bought almost $300 worth of stuff and came back to return one dress that fit weird. Half was paid in cash and half on a card. When I did the return she asked for the card which I didn't have at the time because it was with my husband. So I received store credit instead which was fine. But she was definitely acting like my return was a burden to her life... besides that experience, I still enjoy the store and come every now and then... read more

Checkout lines are so slow and the merchandise is boring. The old one was sooo much better.

I enjoy browsing here with my daughters for clothes, backpacks, beauty supplies (nail polish, shampoo), shoes and other daily things. Seems clean and large with a good supply. read more

The Marshalls in ElCerrito was nice, this one is not. Their merchandise is not of the same quality. Also, tried to return an item that did not work, but their return policy states you cannot return anything that has been opened. How else could I know it was broken? Long lines at checkout. Waiting, and waiting and more waiting. Only two cashiers, one walks away... Three women all together at the register being rang up separately causing more wait. One guy is not doing shit behind the counter. With 6-7 people waiting and more showing up. I walked out after a 7-10 min wait with no end in site. The store itself is like any other Marshall's, nothing more nothing less. This poor review is because I was being followed by a man and I suspect it was a loss prevention staff. The situation made me feel really uncomforable because I was there to buy, not steal. I am the "typical short brown hispanic" woman after the gym and believe I was stereotyped because of the way I looked. I didn't have a cart or basket, and had my wallet in the pocket of my jacket, I had my items in my hand and the guy in every corner of my visit that day. Customer service there is a African American lady I believe her name was "Bobbi" she was so rude I had just walked in the store and was screaming at me from the register about a conflict that happened outside, it was a horrible experience it seemed like she waiting for us at the front as she didn't move until we left, over all the place is a mess and could use more help, and new staff as this lady was harassing us as we shopped she should have more respect to the customers. read more

I have shopped here before. The store itself isn't too nice inside compared to other nearby locations. I recently purchased an item online that turned out to be defective and tried to return it in the store (which is completely within their policy) but they refused to take it and said it was "dirty" and appeared "used." I'm a 65 year old woman and have better things to do than try to scam $40 out of them by returning a hair tool. I used it once - how else would I discover it didn't work? I thought they were ridiculous in the store and lack customer service skills. It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon so it's not like they had better things to do. Now I have to deal somehow shipping it back to the online store and my annoyance level is very high. I may cancel their stupid credit card at this point. I don't need it. I was so happy when I heard Marshall's was moving closer to me. I'm a huge Marshall's fan. It's a beautiful new store but it's filthy. You enter the front door into an anteroom with filthy shopping carts and trash all over the floor. There wasn't one cart that didn't have someone else Kleenex, or such, in it. This did not happen in an hour. If you want return customers keep your store tidy. You don't have any staff that could go clean up the cart area? I loved shopping at the old Marshall's by Moeser Lane, now closed. The new Marshal store at El Cerrito Plaza is quite large but it has a warehouse feel to it. The ceilings are high and unfinished, reflecting the noise a lot. Screaming babies, mothers, kids are heard very loudly. No fun if you're looking for a relaxing shopping experience. They definitely need sound proofing. The selection is fine, much better quality than the cluttered R... next door. I hope they keep the store well organized and neat, make the lay out more friendly, lower the ceilings and add sound proofing. read more

The quality of the merchandise women clothes are very cheap with no designers clothing. They are targeting women with very little knowledge of quality clothes or designer labels. The clothes are appropriate for the fruitvale avenue flea market. Clerks can't answer simple questions. Extremely disappointing their target clientele is not for professional or discerning shoppers. read more
