I look forward to my appointments with Dr. Skewis. I think I'm talking to my best friend over a cup of tea, at least that's how comfortable it feels. Initially, I went to her for help in dealing with a family problem after my elderly father died. In addition to the emotion pain, I was dealing with a lot of physical pain for a long time. I find her advice very helpful. I can't imagine how I must have burdened my husband and my friends with all these seemingly small problems. All these "small" problems add up and they go on and on if left to fester. The emotional state affects the physical state and vice versa.
On the outside, I looked like a normal, happy individual, but on the inside I felt like a failure living in my own hell. I am 66 years old, retired and living on a tight but workable budget. I had such heartbreak in the last few years that was almost unbearable along with two surgeries and car accident. Dr. Skewis has been wonderful in helping me maintain a balance in life without sacrificing my dignity or compromising family relationships. Her advice keeps me in the middle, assertive, rather than passive/aggressive, a common behavior that leads to disaster. She wasn't the first therapist I've seen, but certainly the one I need now. read more
