For $4.50 you can add embroidery. There are different sizes for the bandanas as and you can pick out the fabric you like. Turnaround time was only a day or two. The pen Manager explained the specific refills in detail. Bonus, she wrote down the details of each model on the back of her business card. She was very helpful and detailed oriented and a pleasure to converse with. We'll definitely miss Flax, but in the meantime, we'll make sure all of the items we need, we get 'em here. We once spent a long afternoon in Ginza Itoya--the eight floor modern, immaculate stationary superstore in Tokyo with rows of perfectly designed pens, playful stamps, gorgeous hand printed stickers and ephemera we didn't know we needed. Maido is much smaller, a little cluttered, but brings some of that experience with its rows of geometric folders and gorgeous mechanical pencils. I've never met a gel pen or cat stamp here I didn't love. I also like to shop both Maido locations: upstairs they have small cubby packed full with stationary and office supplies, and downstairs, a small shop with gifts and cards. If you fill a basket here with over $40 in items, which is easy to do as its pricey, they offer a parking subsidy --a thoughtful touch that hardly any other Japantown shops offer anymore, which can make a visit slightly easier to justify.

I happened to have been present on the day of this conflict and it lives in my memory as one of the creepiest and most uncomfortable retail interactions I've ever witnessed. Alan was rude, patronizing and deeply inappropriate as he attempted to intimidate the store manager, who held her own with impressive grace and strength. There were several customers in the shop that night, and it seemed that most were unwilling to leave until we knew that the manager and her staff were safe. We were relieved when security arrived. Kudos to the manager for her poise under pressure, her commitment to protecting her staff, and unwillingness to give in to his attempts to intimidate or take the bait of engaging with his review.
