It was a beautiful course and I definitely should have played a lot better but I was dying of the heat and hungover. Everyone was really nice and it seemed like a beautiful resort with so many things to do. I've definitely never been to a place where it had a giant pool and hotel connected to it before but cool idea. Huge parking lots, golf carts were nice and lots of employees everywhere. I always have such a great time here. Beautiful landscaping, wonderful golf course, and super comfortable condos. Every condo I've been in has been clean, well stocked with kitchen necessities and had a lovely view. They've also always been quiet. I like the store and my daughter loved the gym . Parking is easy. With the warm September weather, I must admit I did enjoy playing this course. I would have liked to played from 6600 yards but because of the heat (and the heat from the last two days of golf) I decided to take it easy by playing from the 6200 yard tees. The course was in excellent condition with a few challenging spots to play around. The greens were perfectly mowed and the ball rolled true. From what I understand we got a nice discount on the green fees so that made it a worthwhile round. I did enjoy myself though I was huffing and puffing from the 15th hole onwards. I did redeem myself by hitting my tee shot on the 17th par 3 to about 3 feet from the pin. The staff and the girl driving the beverage cart were very nice and helped make it a fun outing. I can't believe we've never played golf here before. But our opportunity surfaced with UnderPar's voucher offer. Two players for $139 including golf cart & driving range. The pro shop is very friendly as is the starter. There were six of us today with tee time at 8:18 & 8:27. Fortunately they didn't add two singles. Start time & last name on the cart. The front nine is bunker city. The back nine has lots of water hazards. Greens are fast and fairways are very forgiving. Thanks Marriott for the golf special. Greens are playable in regulation, but usually have tight entries with surrounding bunkers. Some surprise holes with blind approaches which made it really fun. Staff were pleasant. Course Marshalls at the ready doing their job. Saw them on the course several times. Decent driving range to get warmed up. The club house is amazing. Fitting room, shoe room, lovely locker room. Reasonably priced for what you get. Really liked this place. The only knock I would give it is that the restaurant is closed and has been since covid. I was told they can't get anyone to work it. I've played this course in the past and It's one of my favorites in the Coachella Valley. Located in the Shadow Ridge Vacation club - a Nick Faldo course which includes a immaculate practice facility and even offers half hour lessons to multiple day lessons at the Nick Faldo school of golf. I had a Saturday am tee time at 8:10 and teed off right on time. The course is challenging with deep sand traps, uneven fairway lies and several holes with water hazards. Greens here are like putting on glass fast and have plenty of undulation - which makes them so challenging. After your round head upstairs to the Faldo's Restaurant for lunch and cold beverage. read more

This is a terrific track - what more can I say?! The course is very green considering heat from the summer is still lingering. I'd say the course is pretty open and very fair. I think there were only a couple of forced carries, and it was pretty scenic. The staff were nice and professional. The rate is close to $100, but it's probably worth it. We love this beautiful golf course. It's well-maintained with thick turf and forgiving wide fairways. The masked staff is courteous and helpful. There is covered parking close-by to help shield your car from the baking hot sun. Water hazard is a challenge at several holes, e.g. 5, 9, 13 and 18. The more prominent features are the prevalent sand traps, many quite deep, flanking the greens and along the way. This is a great place to practice getting out of bunker shots, for inevitably you will end up in one (because of COVID, raking after is not necessary). Speaking of bunkers, we enjoyed the breakfast wraps served at the aptly-named Bunkers. We will definitely be back. read more

I just play almost 5:00 round of golf. The pace was so slow we had extended waits on every swing. We saw the car girl only once in that time. And there was never a Marshall to be found at any time. When I asked about the lack of Marshalls they told me they didn't have any ever. For a course the charge is well over $100 a person for around of 18 this is completely unacceptable. Marriott should be ashamed of their selves. Was a very frustrating and unpleasant first day of my vacation with them. I feel like they owe me money for this experience. read more

This golf course is absolutely beautiful. Even in the middle of a super hot 118+ degree summer day, the greens are actually green. And not to mention, they were still pretty fast. The grounds are so beautifully maintained and manicured. I could see one of the water hazards from my Villa's balcony. It didn't obviously look like a water hazard. It came off as being more like a pond. Having a view of it from my balcony was great. Ducks and other birds swam in it. Watching them really entertained my lil one. Everybody at the clubhouse was super friendly and awesome. The gentleman who runs the pro shop is also really sweet. He LOVES his job! You could tell. He was busy helping his customers but was also cracking jokes left and right with everybody who came in. The caddies were all really awesome too. They were great w club advice and estimating range. I always enjoy this course. The Nick Faldo course has many interesting holes. Pin placement is always very challenging. The course was in excellent condition today, so even though it was cloudy and chilly, the course played well. The staff are attentive and always friendly. The only complaint I have is on 18, every time we go, there are children playing out in the fairway. This makes that hole unpleasant to play. The risk of hitting a child with a golf ball outweighs the concentration needed to finish the round. I can't play it well in fear of hurting someone. I wish the staff would address this issue as it is a problem every time we have played here, which is a lot. Other than that, a great course with a nice resort. read more

Great course. Amazing views and lush grounds. Very challenging for me as a high handicap golfer, but I truly enjoyed the experience. It was immaculate, nice folks running the course, and the price was super cheap due to the HOT HOT temps and summer season rates. - On course water was abundant. - Fairways and greens were perfect. - Decent amount of shade to find some relief. - Nice grass driving range and chipping range. - Gorgeous location and layout. All-in-all it was one of the best courses I have ever played. I actually did not lose one ball all round, which was weird for me...but it was a tough course and it was hard to score low. Shadow Ridge Golf course is beautiful, but the management misses the point by trying to pack in golfers like it is a Production facility. The tee times are booked every 9 minutes, but they allow groups of 2 players or 3 players who of course will catch up to a 4-some making this a misearable experience for the group waiting on each tee box and the 4-some rushing their shots. This ocurred to our group today 11/28/21 and the Marshall rode us and followed our group making the experience terrible, the purpose of relaxing and enjoying the course and the beautiful day was voided by the Management. Following our round if golf, I brought this to the Pro Shop's attention and they just wanted to argue about it. The Golf Pro then came out and discussed it defending their practice. I pointed out that the course was wide open by 1pm, so why not spread the t-times by an extra 2-3 minutes each so every group could enjoy the course without feeling rushed. I am not sure the Golf Pro got the message, they seemed more interested in packing players on the course. We had several families stay at the Shadow Ridge Marriott and then play golf, so we spent a fair amount of money on the villas and golf. Don't think we we'll go back unless the Management makes the golf experience about the Customer and not the revenue. Nice course, Bad Management, Bad Customer Service. read more

Played here with my wife on 5/15/21. The course was in awesome condition. Enough sand and water to make it slightly more challenging than the courses we normally play. The greens had enough mounds and breaks for sure. Service was great! Pace was perfect on Saturday morning. Tee times are 10 min apart which seems like the appropriate amount of time. We arrived at the resort quickly as it is located within a stones throw from our home. We came to participate in the Palm Desert Chamber Tournament. The starter was a bit confusing to find. There are two different structures near each other so pick the one that says THE GRILLE. The main building reminds me of the setup at Bellatrix. I wonder if it was the same designer. The course is definitely wide enough for a hacker like me. I did lose a few balls but I had not been out since September. There is water and a PLETHORA of beach real estate if you know what I mean. All in all, the service staff was great and the tournament went on without a hitch. I would like to GARDEN here again. read more

I always buy the weekly membership because of the convenience of not having to pay each and every time. Matthew and David in the pro shop are the best and most accommodating starters I've ever dealt with. The guys downstairs that help get you set up are also what keeps me and my family coming back every year. They are Rene, Enrique, and Julio. They are able to help you in every way possible! One of the best public golf courses in the valley. My favorite aspect is once you tee off never see any houses/condo's lining the fairways meaning full swings off the tee box without fear of hitting anything. The landscape is beautiful, doesn't feel like you are in the desert. That said, not an easy track. Fairways very inviting and wide. Typical Marriott quality means course is very well kept. I always get out here a few times a year, and the other Marriott Desert Springs even more. Matt and rest of staff in pro shop always friendly and accomodating. Practice facilities first class. We arrive, very nice fellows take our clubs, put on carts, we practice, nice starter allows us to tee off prior to our 1:21 tee time. All's fine for the $120+ round.... then on 10, we catch up to the duffers. 4 guys, playing from wrong tees, take over 10 minutes to putt out... Duffers let the 2 men in front of us, go around, we're clearly ready to play through...the duffers don't ask...continue to take 20 minutes/hole. On 14, we quit... I go to pro shop to ask to speak to marshal...Gone home! Ask David in Pro Shop to "make this right" David says, "aaaah, how bout I give you my card so you can call me so MAYBE I can let you play back nine.... sometime." Then I see 3some behind us come in as they have quit also. Major fail at customer service, marshaling course...won't be back. Don't waste your time or money, here. read more

For a resort course, this set up is pretty brutal (a good thing) and offers a great challenge for even the most capable of golfers, even from the short-hitter tees. They say that this is one of two Nick Faldo designed courses in the United States (the other is in Orlando) and this course is known as a favorite amongst tourists, critics, and even locals (one of my friends is a golf pro in Palm Springs and he raved about this when I told him I was set up to play here). I got out in the first group off (cockadoodle-doo) on a Sunday morning (my kind of worship) and we sped around in exactly four hours. Teeing off in the dark, playing a new course with rental clubs did nothing for my scorecard, but nothing could take away the beauty of the sun's morning rays glowing red on the majestic mountains that encircle the desert floor. The set up is fair, but difficult, and the greens were especially tricky. I don't know what it is, but I just cannot read the Bermuda greens, so I left a lot of shots on the greens. Also, the fairways and areas around the greens are mowed tight, and it seems that I could benefit from some instruction on how to hit wedges from tight lies. But, most of all, the bunkering is a killer. It seems that he is keen on leaving treacherous bunkers in all the wrong places, and upon consulting the notes on my scorecard, a full 8 of my 89 strokes were made out of the sand which led to too many double bogeys. My buddy and I decided to take quick trip out to the desert for a little bit of golf. He found a deal for the Marriott Shadow Ridge Golf Course online, think it was about $40-50 per person. If you're wondering why the deal was so cheap, we were playing in late August meaning the temperatures will easily soar into triple digits. This is NOT considered peak season for golf around these parts. What made it even more of a convenience to us was that we ended staying at the Marriott Shadow Ridge Village but that is a separate review on its own. We called in about a week or two in advanced to book our tee time. We asked for the earliest which was about 6am. When I initially woke up in the morning, it was pitched black. The hotel had a shuttle service pick us up from our room because we were at the far end of the property. It seriously would've taken us forever if we walked it especially with the bags on our backs. We got to the club house and they haven't even opened the doors yet. It was still dark (circa 5:40-5:50am). When we finally checked in and things were up and running, the worker downstairs by the golf carts informed us that we could tee off whenever we were ready. Why wait? We popped the cherry for the day and headed out. It's a bit tricky when the sun is barely peaking over the horizon and you're about to tee off. My memory is a bit hazy but probably due to the fact that my brain was still hitting the snooze button. It took up until the late second hole that the sun finally came out to play with us. It's a bit biased to say that the front nine is harder than the back nine. I did score much better on the back nine but again, I blame the lack of sleep and the super early tee time. Excuses, tsk tsk. There's plenty of sand traps and water hazards on this course. What I did notice on the back nine is the Marriott Shadow Ridge hotel property running alongside a good number of holes. At any given moment, you'll see people hanging out on their balcony, watching you shank that ball into the water. Kids are playing about and you'll see joggers casually running past you (FORE!). For being the desert and temperatures blasting into the 100s, the course itself was kept in pretty good condition. Early in the morning, we saw maintenance guys working on the course trying to prep for the day. They gave us that look like we were crazy for being out there so early. I recommend sucking it up and getting out there as early as you can to be the heat. Fortunately, for us two we were done in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Probably the fastest round of golf for me. Our voucher actually would have allowed us to play another round but it was Sunday and we were ready to go hit the Cabazon outlets on our way back to LA. Great condition and decent greens. Caution: the desert heat occasionally will make your golf balls want to dive into the water to cool off. Overall, the course wasn't too difficult or too easy to conquer. An enjoyable round. Of all the courses I've had the joy of playing since being here in the desert. Shadow Ridge has by far been the finest of fine. Such a beautiful course that was designed by a man who was going through a brutal divorce and oh baby it's a soul crusher to the ego. This course has a hole I fondly call the "Division of Assets" hole. As it's fare-way is lined down both sides with sand trap after sand trap of the deepest angriest places to land you ball. Great staff that greets and preps you for your fabulous day of play. after hitting their custom made drive balls and taking a few putts your on your way to a glorious day of wide fare-ways and beastly sand traps. With water hazards that creep out of no where at you. Though beautiful to the eye. Rude to the sticks and balls you hit! (Bring more balls then normal) The drink cart girl has a beautifully stocked cart with all the snake and beverage desires one couple dream.
