It is a very challenging course though. Narrow fairways and tough greens. I would not recommend golfing here if you're shanking the ball all over the place. Only downside is that there is no driving range but you get over it pretty quickly because for how tough the course is, a driving range ain't gonna make a difference. I think this course is ideal for your afternoon round after your more serious round in the morning. I golfed at PGA West course earlier in the week and would rather golf here again! Played the celebrity course this weekend and unfortunately the poor behavior from course marshals…read moreovershadowed what should have been a good group outing. We were stopped at the turn and told we had to skip two holes due to complaints from the group behind that we were holding up play. The group behind was our friends who hadn't complained or waited for us all day. Instead of a reasonable conversation, the marshal informed us that we obviously don't play much (I was 2 over) and we didn't have a choice. As we drove down the 10th, we could see the group behind still playing approach shots to the 9th, and the group behind that wasn't even on the 9th yet. He led us to the twelfth hole, where there was a backup and we waited for every shot for the remainder of the round. I've never encountered a course employee with this type of attitude, let alone expecting it when paying this much to play.

What stood out the most though was the incredibly helpful and friendly staff. I want to give a particularly big thank you to the director of food and beverage, Keith Sansone. He helped me with something that was incredibly gracious and kind of him, he went above and beyond what you'd expect from most golf resorts. There are many many properties out in the Palm Springs Palm Desert area. I've played at almost all of them. Desert Willow hands-down has the best team of people working and supporting their operations. And as anybody could probably tell you, kind, friendly, and attentive staff make all of the difference in having a mediocre experience or having an absolutely fantastic experience. You just get some people from the city that come here that are not healed and probably the bottom pick and golf here but don't know what they're doing. And probably not staying at the hotel that is $400 a night. Other than that, this course is nice and it is luscious with nice green grass. They added a lot of palm trees to make it apparent and there are mountains in the background. They call it 'play ready golf' on their rules, but obviously it's all a lie. It resembles the Santa Barbara Muni course the people working and also the people playing are mostly trashy and think they're above the law most of the time. We recently wrapped up a golf trip to Palm Springs with a group of friends, and overall it had been…read morea fantastic weekend. We chose Escena Golf Club as our final round, expecting it to be a great way to end the trip. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by an interaction with the Marshall as we were finishing our round. He made several condescending remarks regarding our pace of play, despite there being no groups waiting behind us or any apparent impact on other players. We were also falsely told that our round had taken 5.5 hours. We finished in about 4.5 despite there being extreme wind throughout the course. The first group of 4 wanted to wait after the 18th hole for our friends in the next group to finish, and we got ran off the course and told that everyone wants to go home. We fully understand and respect the importance of maintaining pace of play, but the manner in which this situation was handled felt unnecessarily confrontational and detracted from what had otherwise been an enjoyable experience.
