Yes, you can drive through much of the park, but the sculptures are worth a long looksie. The park is much larger than one might think and it's still being expanded. (In fact, the Iron Ore Heritage Trail is also expanding and will come all the way here soon!) Each sculpture evoked a response, almost always wonder at how the work was created. There are historical pieces, humorous sculptures, whimsical creations and some very personal works. We took quite a few photos to remember the day. There was only one other car when we arrived, so we basically had the whole place to ourselves. That was great for our dog, but even if it were busy, the area is wide open with lots of space to roam around. The loop we walked was for both walking and driving, but luckily there were no cars on it while we were there, so it was really nice to have that space just to walk. There are multiple other areas to check out. You can stop by to have lunch and stretch your legs. It really is a must stop! There are a few porta-potties on site, a decent-sized parking lot, and a small gift shop too.

Well, I haven't been to any of the other Michigan Brewers Guild festivals yet, but I have to say…read morethat the UP Beer Fest was an absolute hit with me. Just from the way we got in, I knew this was going to be well run. I had to like the people on the loud speakers asking us kindly to have our IDs out and not to be dicks. Ha! It wasn't just that though, for a festival that was listed as sold out, my friend and I got through the line fairly quickly and onto the most important thing: Beer. This was my first time at the event, but I was told by vets that they had even more beer and producers this year. In a way, you didn't really notice as the tents were set up really well and outside of the line for Greenbush or a major tapping like KBS. I have to give full props to how they set up the porta johns. As a guy, it was pretty nice to have one just for guys to quickly get in and get out. But, they also made sure there were plenty of johns available for everyone. The food was a bit on the pricy side, but it was also never hard to get something if you wanted it. Granted, the falafel I bought did have a lot in it. While $7 is on the higher side than I'm used to, I also fully accept that you will pay more at a festival like this. The UP Beer fest was an absolute blast for me and I am looking forward to coming back next year.

The art museum is 4,000 square feet and has two art galleries that exhibit a rotating display of artworks and collections. It is the largest art gallery on the Northern Michigan University campus and is also the only art museum with a permanent collection in the Upper Peninsula. My visit today was quiet as I was the only patron. As with much contemporary art, there are art pieces with a political message and that's okay. I tend to appreciate art for what I can see rather than what it makes me think. My favorite piece was the "All American Relic #16, 2021" by Grant Kaihoi and the caption is typical of art pieces, "[It is] an exploration of the sanctity of an individual. Utilizing the organic nature of wood and the precise results of wood craft I am working to understand time, brokeness, beauty, and what it means to exist as a created being, made by a good God, in a broken world." I thought it was interesting to look at and a quite attractive piece. The museum includes an outdoor sculpture garden with multiple artworks on display. Located on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette, I did not have the opportunity…read moreto tour the inside but I did have time to walk the perimeter of this extremely interesting building that is unlike anything I've seen before. It is a geodesic dome that is 143 feet tall and has a diameter of 563 feet. Surprisingly, it is only the fifth largest dome in the world though it is the largest *wooden* dome. Some facts about the dome: - it has a retractable artificial turf carpet. - the first event here was in 1991, when the Wildcats defeated Indianapolis - the attendance record is 8672 - George W. Bush held a campaign rally here during the 2004 Presidential campaign. - the dome is visible from Lake Superior [Review 17917 overall - 323 in Michigan - 1438 of 2022.]
