The museum is free but does accept donations with a box up front so if you enjoy yourself as much as I did, five dollars, as suggested, is certainly worth it. The lady at the shop was very nice and it's a thoughtful and well-maintained museum and an overall very casual experience that immerses you in the human history of the UP. Definitely recommended!

Go hunting for beach glass along the rocky beaches, grab a bench and watch the waves, build a sandcastle on the beach, take a drive around the loop, there's endless ways to enjoy the park and all it has to offer. No hammocking, no dogs (from what I saw on the signage), and be prepared for wind while on the shorelines. Still a 10/10 and the best "park" I've been to.

What a great Urban Park! Presque Isle Park is a large public park that is a peninsula overlooking…read moreLake Superior. The park is easily accessible by car, bike or foot. My dad and I walked around the whole thing and according to my fitbit I had 3.5 miles but we did a lot of side walking too. We parked in the front near the lighthouse alongside of an ore dock. The iron ore docks were cool to see as they are unique to this part of the country. From there we walked out to the lighthouse and checked it out before starting off on the trail. The cliffs over looking Lake Superior and black rocks along the route were really cool to take in. Be careful though as these cliff rocks are known to go crashing in to Lake Superior. I'd say it's almost 3 miles to walk all the way around. There were tons of picnic tables and pavilions but not sure for getting the pavilions work in terms of renting them or if it's 1st come 1st serve. I also saw 2 kayak/canoe vans with trailers but didn't anyone kayaking or canoeing so not sure if that's an option near by.

The art museum is 4,000 square feet and has two art galleries that exhibit a rotating display of artworks and collections. It is the largest art gallery on the Northern Michigan University campus and is also the only art museum with a permanent collection in the Upper Peninsula. My visit today was quiet as I was the only patron. As with much contemporary art, there are art pieces with a political message and that's okay. I tend to appreciate art for what I can see rather than what it makes me think. My favorite piece was the "All American Relic #16, 2021" by Grant Kaihoi and the caption is typical of art pieces, "[It is] an exploration of the sanctity of an individual. Utilizing the organic nature of wood and the precise results of wood craft I am working to understand time, brokeness, beauty, and what it means to exist as a created being, made by a good God, in a broken world." I thought it was interesting to look at and a quite attractive piece. The museum includes an outdoor sculpture garden with multiple artworks on display. Such an interesting tour! You get to put on your lighted helmet and walk into the past, deep below…read morethe surface. Hope you read the rest of my review, but first I want to share something that pisses me off! When we go out to eat at a restaurant we tip the waiter for their service... but when I've been in these types of tours I can't believe how many people don't tip! Not even a couple of bucks! The people giving these tours work harder, share more information , and in this case, do it for almost 3 hours. Much longer than the waiter who brings you a cheeseburger... so stop being so cheep... you know who you are! (End of sermon)! Our guide (Cam) was spectacular! She had so many interesting stories and knowledge of a world in a time that is long gone... (thank god!) The days of this type of deep mining by hand or handheld drill are long over with. Not just because it's not profitable, but because it was inhumane! (Well sadly more because it's not profitable ) Many people worked here until they died of lung issues or were deaf from the drills. Be prepared for at least a 2 1/2 hour tour in the depths of a tunnel in a mountain. Don't worry the paths are safe and large enough that it's shouldn't be a problem if you're worried about claustrophobic conditions. It is cold however... it stays around 40 degrees all year. And it is a little muddy so don't wear your good shoes. If you love history, or think seeing a defunct mine would be interesting, I highly recommend this tour. And give your guide a tip for gods sakes!
