This is a smaller museum but it's still worth a visit if you're in the Marquette area. Admission is free (donations accepted) and parking is free.
The art museum is 4,000 square feet and has two art galleries that exhibit a rotating display of artworks and collections. It is the largest art gallery on the Northern Michigan University campus and is also the only art museum with a permanent collection in the Upper Peninsula.
My visit today was quiet as I was the only patron. As with much contemporary art, there are art pieces with a political message and that's okay. I tend to appreciate art for what I can see rather than what it makes me think.
My favorite piece was the "All American Relic #16, 2021" by Grant Kaihoi and the caption is typical of art pieces, "[It is] an exploration of the sanctity of an individual. Utilizing the organic nature of wood and the precise results of wood craft I am working to understand time, brokeness, beauty, and what it means to exist as a created being, made by a good God, in a broken world." I thought it was interesting to look at and a quite attractive piece.
The museum includes an outdoor sculpture garden with multiple artworks on display.
