This is my hands-down winner for the best trail in New Jersey, I've hiked it, and I have biked it! I love all of the other trails in New Jersey, but this one rises to the top for a few reasons. Often there is water on both sides of the trail. There's a man-made canal on one side and sometimes either a river or a lake on the other side. Plus, it's lush with trees and vegetation. Also, the trail is really great if you wanna go biking. You can't go wrong wherever you decide to explore. I would recommend biking since it's such a beautiful trail and you'd want to see as much as you can. Also, the trail is very flat and easy to ride. It's not paved, but it is a wonderful easy riding surface without dust. I recommend parking either at Kingston, which is my favorite. Or at Rocky Hill. You could also park in Princeton along Washington Street near the kayak rental place. If you park at the Kingston trailhead, if you turn one way and head towards Rocky Hill you will see the most breathtaking views I feel the trail has to offer with majestic Streams and canals with cliffs and trees, and all directions. If you take this trail in the fall, you will be blown away by nature! If you ride in the other direction from Kingston towards the Princeton trailhead, you will pass a long and beautiful lake on your right hand side with beautiful views and trees on your left! If you love trails, this one put to the top of your list if you live in New Jersey or nearby Princeton! Super highly recommended! Going in October during the fall can be a transcending experience!

There are over 70 miles of paths/trails along the D&R canal, passing through many historic towns…read moreand landmarks in NJ with some pretty houses along the way, from near Frenchtown down to Trenton, then up to New Brunswick, in a V shape. The D&R runs parallel to the Delaware & Lehigh (D&L) trail on the Pennsylvania side, so you're also getting a view of the Delaware River on that part of the track. The trail is mostly flat and is suitable for walking or biking. We love riding this trail and exploring sections of it at a time and the surrounding towns. Some sections are more scenic than others. A favorite easy ride (or hike) of ours is to start in Lambertville NJ, ride up to Stockton, cross over Center Bridge to the PA side, grab a burger at Dilly's, then ride down to New Hope, PA, walk around town, and return to Lambertville via the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge. It's only about 8 miles roundtrip and makes for a leisurely day, and is very doable even for kids.

We concentrated on the wider and paved trails and eventually looped around 1(?) of the lakes. Many of the trails are shaded which was perfect for this mid 90s day, and the park was not crowded at Most people had masks down but pulled back up as others were nearby, we did likewise. I'm going to explore more of this overlooked gem, and I think a picnic on the lake when temps moderate. Towards the back of the one lake is a few well positioned benches( others scattered around the lake too) which we found perfect for quiet conversation and butterfly watching. I also look forward to returning in other seasons as was suggested by another review.

On this square mile patch of earth General George Washington fought (and won) one of the fiercest battles of the Revolutionary War by turning back a force of well trained Hessians and British Redcoats on that frigid January day in 1777. It was Washington's first victory on land and galvanized his troops who had almost lost faith in the cause. The fighting was hand to hand in many cases and as gruesome as you can imagine. This ground is picturesque and very much hallowed... a fact that I sometimes forget on my way back through this field from the supermarket. What else but eternal gratitude for their gallantry and sacrifice.

There were two staff in there when we visited and both were very knowledgeable about the battle. The exhibits are very good. The rest of the park seemed very basic and we didn't find many interpretive signs. Without going inside or bringing your own battle maps it would be hard to get an understanding.

If on foot, take Mount Lucas Road up to Campbell Woods Way and find the path through a cul de sac. Why we love it: Restrooms. I know everyone loves the other parks, but this one has a real restroom, open most of the year and a port a potty during the winter. A definite bonus with kids. Skate park. Skateboards, bicycles, scooters. No one is rude--it's rather refreshing seeing people take turns. So much for the idea from my childhood that skaters were criminals. Climbing wall. Basketball court. Jungle gyms for wee and older kids. Picnic tables. Active soccer field. Swings. One was broken last summer, removed the next day, replaced the third day. Active. It is rare that the park is ever empty. Ample parking I try to do the bars every time we visit; the kids aren't quite there yet, but there are both children's and regular bars, plus the spinny bars. 4 slides, possibly 5. Tip: if you want to take ice cream cones, scoop ice cream on to cones, put upside down into cups (the kid's cups from restaurants are perfect), then put into a purse. The kids will think you're a mad genius.

There's nothing else. No walking path. In the back right of the field, there's a very faded sign that says trail but it's so overgrown and not maintained you can't really go anywhere. A good spot for a picnic maybe or a rest between walking on the canals. There's two portable restrooms but no actual bathrooms. The portapotties were particularly filthy but it's also a holiday weekend day.

Turning Basin Park is a convenient spot along Alexander Road with easy access to the walking trail…read morealong the Delaware & Raritan canal. The entrance is somewhat hidden from the road, but it's directly across from Princeton Canoe Rental. The entrance to the park has spaces for about 15-20 vehicles and provides easy access to the canal trail for walkers, bicyclists, or kayakers One nice feature is that the canopy of trees provides shade in the summer if you take a stroll in the late afternoon or early evening. Be careful on the path as you're likely to encounter bicycles, joggers, and walkers. When it's not crowded, the trail is peaceful and the canal is calm. This is a great spot for easy access to the canal trail!

This is a very beginner friendly hike and it is right in my backyard…read more My area was gifted with beautiful weather this past weekend so I wanted to take advantage of the sun and explore some new trails in the area. This is within a mile of my apartment and is about 2.3 miles in length. Overall I recommend this trail if you are looking for something relatively flat and easy. It is not very long but is one straight line. So consider how far you want to walk. If you want the full length of the trail and back, you are walking close to 5 miles. It took me about 45 minutes to walk one way. But I also brought my camera along to stop and take some pictures along the way. Not super scenic as you are walking behind a few different apartment complexes. But you are walking along a really pretty body of water for most of it. So, there is some fun wildlife lingering around. All harmless. Another thing to note. I would definitely wear sneakers, and maybe a pair you don't mind getting dirty. While most of this trail is paved, there are some spots that are not and could potentially get muddy depending on the weather that week. I loved this hike and will definitely be coming back soon.

I've taken my dog here a few times since we got him almost 4+ years ago. It's a shame we didn't go…read morefrequently as a younger pup, but it's a pretty cool place to let loose for a bit. We even did a photo shoot with our dog a few years ago in the dog park. That was pretty dope. Being that this is a members only dog park - $25/year pending active dog license and current vaccinations for township residents - there is quite the comfort knowing that this place is secure, safe, and well maintained. Note that for people that don't live in South Brunswick, they can access the dog park for a fee of $200/year. I can't imagine anyone doing that. Just like other spots, there's an area for large dogs and small dogs. We've gone in the smaller section because our dog isn't that big. Just like you see in other places, there are two separate doors for security purposes. The first is accessible via key fob and the second opens up with your hook. Very secure. I do like that there are tennis balls in the dog park. Gives us something to play with. My dog was recently more interested in sniffing leaves than running around, but there are options, aren't there?

This was the oldest inhabited area of New Jersey, and if you want to know what nature looked like in the past, here's a good place. On the left, you see the meadows rolling down from Kingston village, while on your right is a dense wood with ponds and - amazingly - a very old bridge that doesn't seem to go anywhere..
