I really like Colonial Park. It's large, beautifully maintained, and offers so much to do that I make a point of visiting whenever I'm in the area. Some of the park's attractions include: * Bocce Ball Courts * Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park Trail Access * Dog Park * Fishing * Fitness Trail * Golf Course * Large Playground * Miniature Golf * Nature Trails * Paddle Boating (Duck Boats) * Picnic Pavilions * Rose Garden & Sensory and Fragrance Garden * Spray Park * Tennis & Pickleball Courts The park also connects directly to the Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park Trail via a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the canal. I've walked throughout the park and along the D&R Trail. Fitness stations are located along portions of the trail, and it's easy to create a scenic loop that passes the photogenic Stone Cottage and the spectacular Rose Garden area. The Splash Park is incredibly popular with families. On hot, sunny days, parking near the playground can be hard to find. So far, I've enjoyed the duck boats, miniature golf, fitness trail, nature trails, Rose Garden, and Splash Park. Next on my list are the bocce courts, which appear to be in excellent condition. If you're visiting the area, Colonial Park is a destination well worth your time. read more

I've lived in this area for years and heard about this park but never went myself until a couple months ago. It is a spectacular place with lots of places to walk and things to see. I love all the flowers and foliage in the summer that is at the park! They have a beautiful rose garden too across the street. When playing mini golf, the trees give good shade. It's nice to be in nature. There is playground equipment for the kids and duck shaped paddle boats that are cute for families to ride in. The staff are very polite too. read more

A beautiful rose garden amidst a vast park. We came here to look at the flowers they have a bunch of different roses as well as a sensory and fragrance garden where you can smell various plants and flowers and feel them . This is my favorite park to relax. In the summer you can find ppl fishing for trout. Then you can go on a duck boat paddle boat ride and play some miniature golf. The water park is a great hit for our kid and the playground is fit for all ages. There's no fencing around the playground so you just have to be sure your kid doesn't run off to the street. There's a big field perfect for flying a kite. Tennis courts are popular in the warm months and the rose garden is a must see. Other sports you can utilize are bocce ball, softball, soccer, full sized golf course, and cricket. read more

Had a great time in this park. We were looking for a family friendly hike, and found this place online. The park was huge though, so we actually spent more time doing other stuff than we did hiking! We followed google maps directions, which took us to Parking Lot A. This is close to the Rose Gardens, but a bit further from everything else. If you want to hike, I'd recommend parking in B or C. We started with the Fitness Trail, which is more of a regular walk along a paved path that has various fitness stations along the way. My elder son attempted most of them. This brought us to a very large playground, which kept both boys occupied for a very long time, since it was huge and had a large variety. Eventually we got to the Nature Trail, which is what initially attracted us to the park. This was our least favorite, as there wasn't much scenery, nor nature. We gave up pretty quickly when it got muddy. There is a lot of green, and several BBQ's. Great park!! read more

I absolutely love Colonial Park! It is clean, huge, safe, and beautiful! There is a path through the woods where I have seen foxes! The Rosegarden is phenomenal. Part of it is a sensory garden too, which is a real treat. It's the perfect backdrop for wedding photos or any other photos. Colonial Park has tons of free parking, and only charges a small fee for things like miniature golf or a paddle boats. It is a great park to exercise at because there are fitness stations along a paved path. There are always lots of people walking dogs here, or grilling, or fishing. sometimes I bring a lawn chair and just sit and relax and read a book while looking out at the pond. I brought my friends three children here to the playground, and they declared it was the "best playground ever". There are public restrooms with flush toilets and running water. I honestly feel blessed to have such a high quality park in our area to enjoy for free! read more

" I remember Sunday morning..." Colonial Park located in Somerset County is one the the most complete parks that I have visited. I spent most of my time walking through the perennial, shrub, ornamental grass & rose gardens taking photographs but there is so much more to the park. Each section of the park has a designated letter which makes orientation to the various elements much easier. This community park offers bike/walking paved paths, hiking trails which turn muddy in spots, a 1.4 mile fitness course, bbq piths and picnicking tables. For the kids they feature miniature golf, paddle boats, a playground area, a mini-water park which were all closed down for COVID-19 when I went. Tennis courts, fishing ponds, baseball fields, large open grass fields, bocce courts, shuffle board area and a large fenced dog park. There are public rest rooms with flish toilets and running water. Parking is available at each section of the park but weekends can get crowded. It is difficult to find a park which is as large as Colonial Park offering such a variety of activities. read more

Great community park....they have bike/walking paths (a 1.4 mile fitness parcourse is laid out along a paved path used by walkers, joggers, and bicyclists), giant open fields, gazebos and picnicking tables. There are always lots of people here but there's usually room for a few more. Unfortunately during the pandemic, the paddle-boats at Powder Mill Pond, the miniature gold course and the spray grounds are all closed. read more

I am a photographer and have been shooting here for the last ten years. It's a beautiful location. Now all of a sudden it's not allowed. You get chased out by the mean man in the green golf cart. Yesterday i went there and there are big flashing signs no photography without a permit but a permit costs more money than a photo session costs! Maybe instead of chasing people away you can ask for a donation or something? Like i said I've been working here ten years, never a problem. It is a huge turn off and unfortunately now I will just go elsewhere as the permit thing just doesn't work for what people like me use it for. Very disappointed. read more

Quintessential park. Colonial is as good as parks get, in my opinion! I've been visiting Colonial for the past five years, and have done everything from playing mini golf, to training for a half marathon, to taking my nephew to the playground, to even shooting my engagement photos here. There really is something for everyone. There is paddle boating, mini golfing, a rose garden, an arboretum, and a ton of paths, sports fields, tennis courts, etc. The only thing I think is missing is a basketball court (maybe I am wrong, but I've never seen one there). Not a big deal to me personally but I could see some people assuming there would be one, and there is not. I work a few minutes away, so one of my favorite activities is to spend my lunch break in the park. I've attached a photo from my latest lunch break excursion. By far my favorite park in the world. I've been going here for a very very long time. I used to take my son here he practically grew up in this park. This park offers alot. Plenty of parking, nice long hiking and biking trails, several places to fish, alot of picnic areas all over the place and many bbq's, Tennis courts, a rose garden arboretum (weddings n photos) are taken here alot, a playground that they update and reconstruct every 10 or so years, a real golf course, a dog park, pedal boats, a mini golf course, shuffle boards, a baseball field, plenty of space to fly kites and spacious. There are sidewalks all over so you and the kids can ride bikes. There's even a obstacle/exercise course as you're walking. Over all awesome beautiful park. It's nestled in between a farm but as far as towns there's hillsborough, manville, east Millstone and Franklin township all just minutes away. read more

Colonial Park offers a vast plot of open land, alongside a golf course, small lake area, and some wooded areas as well. Offering various activity areas for kids, plenty of hiking trails, tennis courts, room to practice soccer, football, golf, or ultimate frisbee; as well multiple exercise tips and running paths. Dog park review: The dog parks at Colonial Park are fantastic and a daily visit for my girlfriend's dog. There is plenty of open space for dogs to run around and play. The park is always very clean and there is a separate fenced area for tiny dogs so they don't have to worry about being roughhoused by larger dogs. The space is so big that you can play with your dog generally uninterrupted, or let the dogs all play with each other. read more

This is specifically for the dog park. This place is HUGE, roughly 2 acres of fenced park for your furry friend to run around. People who go there are friednly for the most part, dogs are neutered most of the times and no real issues go on here. Cleanest dog park I have been too in Jersey. Ticks have been an issue with my dog but colonial dog park sprays down the grass with tick remedy to kill all the ticks for the summer. Highly recommend to anyone. read more

Nice BIG park ! They have lots of beautiful secluded areas including the Rose Garden.

Wow this place is nice and it is always jumping. Tennis, paddle boating, hiking, play grounds, they have it all. This park is huge. There are bathrooms everywhere too. Parking is tight though people end up parking on the grass because there are just not enough spots, especially if people have parties. read more

Colonial Park is incredible beautiful. This park has everything. It has numerous hiking trails that are seasonal, various gardens to wander through, hundreds of paths for running, walking, dog walking; tennis, golf, pool, cross country skiing, kayaking, yoga, horseback riding, etc. They have it all. It feels more like a country club at times than a park, with all the utilities. There is always something going on. This park is fun for all ages, shapes, and sizes. One of my favorite parks not just in this area, but in New Jersey. My parents recently relocated to New Jersey after retiring and luckily they reside right next to this park. Colonial park has a playground with soft rubbery surface, that's why I prefer to bring my kids here. There is no mulch feeling up their shoes, no mad after rain. It's very clean. It's not the closest playground to my house, but I ll still come here because of its surface. read more

Great dog park! Fenced in off leash area for dogs. Sides are closed partially due to reseeding. Patiently waiting for the other side to open. At the end of the summer, the park was already getting really muddy and now with the snow melting, it's definitely bath time after this trip. However the other side looks great! Careful for a small hole dug under the fence in the rear section by the gate.
