This is my hands-down winner for the best trail in New Jersey, I've hiked it, and I have biked it! I love all of the other trails in New Jersey, but this one rises to the top for a few reasons. Often there is water on both sides of the trail. There's a man-made canal on one side and sometimes either a river or a lake on the other side. Plus, it's lush with trees and vegetation. Also, the trail is really great if you wanna go biking. You can't go wrong wherever you decide to explore. I would recommend biking since it's such a beautiful trail and you'd want to see as much as you can. Also, the trail is very flat and easy to ride. It's not paved, but it is a wonderful easy riding surface without dust. I recommend parking either at Kingston, which is my favorite. Or at Rocky Hill. You could also park in Princeton along Washington Street near the kayak rental place. If you park at the Kingston trailhead, if you turn one way and head towards Rocky Hill you will see the most breathtaking views I feel the trail has to offer with majestic Streams and canals with cliffs and trees, and all directions. If you take this trail in the fall, you will be blown away by nature! If you ride in the other direction from Kingston towards the Princeton trailhead, you will pass a long and beautiful lake on your right hand side with beautiful views and trees on your left! If you love trails, this one put to the top of your list if you live in New Jersey or nearby Princeton! Super highly recommended! Going in October during the fall can be a transcending experience!

There are over 70 miles of paths/trails along the D&R canal, passing through many historic towns…read moreand landmarks in NJ with some pretty houses along the way, from near Frenchtown down to Trenton, then up to New Brunswick, in a V shape. The D&R runs parallel to the Delaware & Lehigh (D&L) trail on the Pennsylvania side, so you're also getting a view of the Delaware River on that part of the track. The trail is mostly flat and is suitable for walking or biking. We love riding this trail and exploring sections of it at a time and the surrounding towns. Some sections are more scenic than others. A favorite easy ride (or hike) of ours is to start in Lambertville NJ, ride up to Stockton, cross over Center Bridge to the PA side, grab a burger at Dilly's, then ride down to New Hope, PA, walk around town, and return to Lambertville via the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge. It's only about 8 miles roundtrip and makes for a leisurely day, and is very doable even for kids.

Happy Earth Day!…read more It's the one year anniversary of our hike around this natural area. For awhile, my town was organizing group dog hikes every weekend here. Now I love to hike. I love my dog. I love to hike with my dog. However I wasn't sure how it'd all play out with me, my dog, other people, and other dogs. Too intense for me - not for him. To be clear - I am most definitely the problem lol. So me, dog, and dog dad struck out on our own last Earth Day to explore this trail. I refused to believe there was a towering water feature until I saw it for myself (not pictured below for some reason). Splendid to be honest. Super enjoyable way to spend some time thinking about our planet and discovering more gems in Franklin Township. Things to know: -ticks - pulled 7 off my dog and a couple out my underboob smh -passes behind residential housing. Kinda creepy from homeowner perspective I imagine but cool for walkers because someone along the way has an absolute UNIT of a treehouse and I am 43yo and very jealous. -ticks -watch the trail markers. I don't think you can get lost per se but can def veer off course. -other people and dogs. The trail in the woods can get tight so stay aware and give a wide berth if necessary -ticks

She found a park map showing the Franklin Park trails at the Bunker Hill natural area and they seemed fine. Due to me refusing to look at any other maps we did our walk there. We drove what felt like 50 miles from our home and parked in a small roadside parking area that can fit about a half dozen cars. There is a bulletin board there with a map and other information. We walked the brown trail which is blazed but not perfect. The tract of land is surrounded by a farm, a golf course and some suburban neighborhoods. Much of the maintained trail is grass or dirt with out serious undulations or difficult footing. The highlight of the trail is a 30 foot cliff above a shallow stream. If you walk after it has rained you may be treated to a waterfall. There is also an epic treehouse complete with wraparound the trunk spiral staircase, in someone's backyard. We continued to the yellow trail which traveled the perimeter of another tract and then retraced our footsteps back to the start point about 3 1/2 miles later. We passed a white tailed deer, mountain bike cyclist, a runner, two people walking dogs and maybe a half dozen other walkers. The trails seem safe and never to far from help even though you are in the woods and often under tree cover. Very nice for a township park and best of all there is no fee to visit.

The trails aren't lit, so you're better off coming while the sun is still out. If you walk on the backside of the soccer fields there's a small bridge, which is my favorite place to walk by. There's even small playground area with a mini rockwall at this park. Theres also a dog park in the front. The bathrooms are usually locked most times of year until it's soccer/baseball season. If you're coming from Adams Ln you can turn into the park from there, but you'll have to exit onto 130 because it's a one way. I love the proximity of this park, it's great for a post-work stroll.

Most importantly you have to go when you know it will be dry ground. I went for a walk on 2/5/19, I didn't expect so have to step on so many muddy puddles and just very wet gravel all around. It wasn't raining for a few days but I know the weather was warmer, we had some am fog. But it was a splotchy mess. They should improve there grounds. You walk on gravel surface which by the way, enters my sneakers each time. I have to shake out my sneakers. It was very muddy this time around. And after just a normal rain there are so many puddles.

I have been traveling near this park for years and never knew about this nice little escape located off Harlingen Road. The kid's playground looks good and they even got a zipline for them, so I'm sure kids really enjoy it because it looks like fun. The Veterans and 911 Memorial is a great addition because it reminds us of the many innocent people who lost their lives fighting for this country or those who were just in the city working on that unforgettable day on September 11, 2001. I love being in nature and the Arboretum is the perfect place to just relax and explore while listening to the birds sing to you! I added this info below from park's website: "Upper and lower park entrances on Harlingen Road passed Devon Rd. Playground, pathways, restroom, picnic/pavilion area (2),grills, fire pit, lighted basketball courts (2), lacrosse fields, softball fields, sand volleyball. Paved loop path and cross-country trails. It includes: The Montgomery Veterans Memorial and the 9-11 Memorial  A short paved pathway away from the upper parking area. The Montgomery Arboretum A natural area which can be accessed from the lower parking area, where there is signage."

We rode the paths (2x around) for about a 3.5 mile distance. In the more wooded sections we saw a family of deer from no more than 15 feet away, they watched us as we watched them crossing the path. People all had their dogs on leashes and everyone was polite/friendly. A nice scenic place to ride/walk if you want to get out of your neighborhood these days.
