My daughter had the pleasure of working with Nitin Swahney on the ACT. Junior year is often stressful due to the college pressure and class difficulty, and my daughter wanted to finish taking the ACT's early in the year and she wanted to do well. She received a 28 on her first diagnostic test and after working with a couple of other tutors, her score was staying at a steady 31 and not getting better. We had heard about Mark's Education tutoring and specifically Nitin from a family friend who had been successful with this program. Nitin immediately spoke with my daughter on the phone to discuss a plan and sent her a whole binder of materials and numerous practice tests. After only two FaceTime tutoring sessions and 1 month later, my daughter received a 34 on the October ACT putting her in the 99th percentile. What made Nitin stand out from other tutors was that he was patient with her and recognized when certain strategies weren't working and created newer ones that worked better. For example, my daughter was receiving 25-29's on the science section which was greatly bringing down her composite score and instead of showing her the same strategies over and over again, he created a new strategy of reading the questions in a special way that brought her score to a 34 on the science section. Additionally, he spoke to my daughter regarding a plan about the SAT2's and is sending her the materials. Nitin played a crucial role in this process and his encouraging and informative strategies helped my daughter increase her score by 6 points read more

Our daughter wanted to leave Little Langley in McLean after being there for 7 years. We were really pleased with the education that Little Langley had provided her and as part of the application process, we had her take the SSAT test in September. Her results were not as good as we had hoped so we contacted Nina Marks and Nitin Sawhney of Marks Education to evaluate our options. We found them absolutely delightful to work with. That evaluation process made us realize that our school was good at teaching our daughter, but not at preparing for test taking and especially taking a tricky test like the SSAT. Our daughter then began working with Dr. Kate Hallgren, one of Marks Education's counselors. Our 11 year old just loved Kate and her patience and skills at teaching her how to take the SSAT. Marks Education also provided our daughter with an App that would help improve her vocabulary. We found the App fantastic because it allowed us to work with our daughter on her vocabulary while we were driving. Most importantly, our daughter retook the SSAT two more times and her scores improved each time which helped her get accepted into all three schools to which she applied. She had three wonderful choices for sixth grade. We highly recommend Marks Education and truly believe you will find them wonderful to work with. We only hope that they have the opportunity to help your child like they did ours. Best, Dale and Katharine Powell read more

My son is working with Nitin for SAT prep. Not only has my son improved his score by almost 300 points (more than Nitin actually thought was possible), my son has had a great time working with him and getting to know him. Nitin has become a mentor to him and helps him not only with SAT, but managing other things in his life. Nitin has taught him about meditation and how to prepare for any test or any big event where you want to perform at your best. While Nitin might be expensive, I feel that each lesson adds value that simply does not stop with the SAT. He is learning skills that he will use the rest of his life. My son also used Ryan for AP Calculus prep. Ryan helped him prepare for BC Calculus and he only worked with my son a handful of times. He told my son that he already could score a 5 and did not need extra lessons. While I was apprehensive about this decision, he indeed scored a 5. My son worked with Liz for Spanish AP prep. I liked that Liz gave my son a baseline exam and said that in the time they had the most that he would be able to score was a 4. They only had a 2-3 weeks to prepare and he worked hard in those weeks and got the 4. She really pushed him to attain his best result. Overall, I could not be happier with Marks Education. All the tutors I have used have been fantastic. While they might be expensive, it is money well spent and was a very efficient use of my son's limited time. read more

My daughter has been working with Nitin Sawhney since September. She just received her December SAT score back with a perfect score of 2400, a 200 points improvement from her last test! We can not be any happier and grateful for Nitin's work with her. Nitin is not only an extraordinary tutor but also a remarkable person. He gets to know his students and deeply cares about them. He not only works with them on SAT problems but also teaches them relaxation technique and provides them tips on healthy eating and sleeping routines to ensure students at their best during the stressful time. This is the 3rd year my daughter's school utilizes Marks Education. Her school reported the outcomes have been remarkable. The average number of tests a student takes (to achieve their desirable score) went from 3.5 per student to 2.6. Students expressed less anxiety and stress as they are better prepared. Now that the SAT preparation is over, my daughter really misses working with Nitin and talking to him about her interests in literature, history and all kinds of subjects. read more

Our family is fortunate to have had Marks Education recommended to us by a previous client, and feel grateful to have had Nitin Sawhney as our son's instructor. Our son began his tutoring sessions with Nitin the fall of his Junior year, anxious and lacking confidence in his own abilities. Not only was Nitin able to help our son master the skills necessary to perform on the newly revised version of the SAT, but more importantly, Nitin bolstered our son's belief in himself with each meeting. Our son ended up with a superstore of 1420, a significant increase from his diagnostic testing. Nitin is patient and calm; he is caring and invested in his students' success. Additionally, Nitin is highly gifted in the mechanics of the standardized tests, and most importantly, he is gifted in effectively communicating that knowledge to the different types of learners with whom he works. We are grateful to Nitin, and to Marks Education, for supporting our son. We joyfully give our highest recommendation of their services. read more

I've had a great experience working with Nitin Sawhney. He helped me prepare for the SATs in high school. I had such a great experience that my sister took lessons from him 2 years later, and we've referred him to several friends who have enjoyed working with him as well. He was helpful with all aspects of preparation: mastering the material through practice and tactical strategies for taking the test on testing day. He provided constructive feedback and much appreciated support throughout the entire process. This past year, I reached back out to him to see if he had any recommendations for how to best prepare for the GMAT. He helped me lay out a study plan, directed me to the best materials, and shared several helpful tactics for test taking day (in addition to strategies for minimizing stress in the days leading up to the test). In the end, I got a 770, which I was very pleased with. I'm not sure if I would have shot for such a high score without his encouragement and mentorship. read more

I had the opportunity to work with Nitin Sawhney over the past few months for the ACT. I realized from the first time I took a practice test that the ACT was difficult. I knew there would be no easy way to success, only hard work. Over many months, Nitin worked with me to the point where I am today with an excellent score. I attribute practically all of my success in the test to him. He is a real master of the ACT and an AMAZING teacher who expertly taught me the test and its ways. He understands and teaches each section so well that it feels like I learned an entirely new language specific to the ACT. I have had a lot of work and stress throughout my junior and senior years, but I felt Nitin's support the entire time. I appreciate the understanding and knowledge that he teaches, as well as the kindness he teaches it with. I hope anyone is as lucky as I was to work with him. Thank you so much Nitin (: read more

I am extremely pleased and grateful for Marks Education and their tutors Eddy and Sarah. Both have helped my son not only get his grades up, but they have helped him to get organized, focused and thinking beyond what is due tomorrow. We tried a few other tutoring outfits in the Potomac/Bethesda area, but none helped him this much and none provided him with the studying tools that will serve him well in college. Last year we struggled (despite having tutors) and it wound up being a rough sophomore year for him. At the start of junior year, we were introduced to Marks Education and I had a lengthy exchange with Nitin Sawhney who got what our needs were and spoke to me about how they could help. Eddy and Sarah are wonderful at providing updates regarding my son's progress and letting me know where he needs to spend some extra time and where he's doing well. read more

After working with a different tutor at another organization and being unable to raise her verbal SAT score beyond a certain point, my daughter met with Nitin Sawhney for a few sessions. Nitin first spoke with her on the phone, asked detailed questions about her past test performance and proposed a plan of study. He was terrific at targetting and honing in on the areas that my daughter needed to work on and he suggested strategies that addressed her specific test prep and test taking weaknesses. After only a handful of sessions my daughter raised her SAT verbal score by 60 points and reached her target score. Nitin's calm and steady demeanor was effective at keeping my daughter relaxed throughout the process and on the day of the test. read more

When I was applying to law school, Nisha Sardella's guidance was invaluable. With her extensive experience, always fresh insights and the personal attention she provided, Nisha helped me successfully navigate the complex and sometimes painful application process. I was able to draft an application that highlighted my strengths. After receiving multiple offers of admission, Nisha helped me to choose the law school that was right for me. The pre- professional counseling offered by my undergraduate university simply did not compare with Nisha's guidance. If applying to graduate school is part of your career planning, I strongly recommend working with her and the team at Marks Education. read more

I worked with Marks Education for my business school application process and I can truly say that they were the best. Nisha and I put together a plan from day one on the schools that fit my profile and she was with me every step of the way. It was the perfect mix of helpful and guiding me through the process - not overbearing, which was something I really wanted to avoid, but instead allowing me to find the right way to position myself for each school individually. Helpful, smart, and sincere. I can't think of a better experience or group to work with. read more

I was incredibly impressed by not only the professionalism of my specific tutor but his flexibility in meeting student requirements. I was deployed overseas and my specific tutor met with me via Skype as well as worked his schedule around my odd hours (different time zones). I increased my score by 25% percentile with only a few lessons. I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking at increasing their score. (I specifically was studying for the LSAT and had taken an online study program prior to reaching out tot Marks Education). read more

We were referred to Nitin Sawhney at the height of test prep season, and he was very accommodating, fitting us into his busy schedule. My son found the tutoring sessions to be highly effective - areas for improvement identified early on and later refined, as progress was made. We were thrilled with the outcome! The significant improvement in my son's SSAT test result was attributed to Nitin's insight of test strategies and focused test preparation. We found Nitin's help to be invaluable and we would highly recommend him! read more

He taught my daughter relaxation technics and gave her lots of encouragement, which helpEd her stay focused, calm and motivated throughout the whole time she studied with him. read more

Anthony Celino is an amazing tutor. Not only did my sons ACT and PSAT scores go WAY up but his grades at school have never been better. My son has been taught so many great test taking tricks. Anthony covered so much information that he hasn't been taught at school yet so he could really excel on his ACT's. We can't thank Marks Education and Anthony enough. He gave us great advice for the night before and the morning of the test too. He was truly there every step of the way and we will be forever grateful. read more

I highly recommend Katharine Laco for college prep tutoring. She is extremely professional and effective in working with and motivating teens who are under a lot of stress and pressure. Katharine has a knack for zeroing in on areas for improvement, assigning the right amount of homework, and explaining strategy and tactics to improve scores. We felt my daughter reached her potential for test results, which is the best possible outcome. read more

Sara Plunkett was very easy to work with and understand! She was able to break down strategies and word problems in ways that were easy to understand. She was very respectful with her time and made sure that my work was showing progression week-by-week until the date of the test. She helped me improve my SAT score by 220 points within less than a month, so I definitely appreciate and recommend her services to everybody! read more

My son had an incredible experience with Dan Hertz working on preparing for the ACT. After working with Dan, my son's score went up dramatically. He was very personable and my son truly enjoyed going to his meeting with Dan as opposed to dreading them. Dan evaluated which test was better (SAT vs ACT) and then catered the sessions to exactly what my son needed. I would highly recommend him. read more
