My daughter had the pleasure of working with Nitin Swahney on the ACT. Junior year is often stressful due to the college pressure and class difficulty, and my daughter wanted to finish taking the ACT's early in the year and she wanted to do well. She received a 28 on her first diagnostic test and after working with a couple of other tutors, her score was staying at a steady 31 and not getting better. We had heard about Mark's Education tutoring and specifically Nitin from a family friend who had been successful with this program. Nitin immediately spoke with my daughter on the phone to discuss a plan and sent her a whole binder of materials and numerous practice tests. After only two FaceTime tutoring sessions and 1 month later, my daughter received a 34 on the October ACT putting her in the 99th percentile. What made Nitin stand out from other tutors was that he was patient with her and recognized when certain strategies weren't working and created newer ones that worked better. For example, my daughter was receiving 25-29's on the science section which was greatly bringing down her composite score and instead of showing her the same strategies over and over again, he created a new strategy of reading the questions in a special way that brought her score to a 34 on the science section. Additionally, he spoke to my daughter regarding a plan about the SAT2's and is sending her the materials. Our daughter wanted to leave Little Langley in McLean after being there for 7 years. We were really pleased with the education that Little Langley had provided her and as part of the application process, we had her take the SSAT test in September. Her results were not as good as we had hoped so we contacted Nina Marks and Nitin Sawhney of Marks Education to evaluate our options. We found them absolutely delightful to work with. That evaluation process made us realize that our school was good at teaching our daughter, but not at preparing for test taking and especially taking a tricky test like the SSAT. Our daughter then began working with Dr. Kate Hallgren, one of Marks Education's counselors. Our 11 year old just loved Kate and her patience and skills at teaching her how to take the SSAT. Marks Education also provided our daughter with an App that would help improve her vocabulary. We found the App fantastic because it allowed us to work with our daughter on her vocabulary while we were driving. Most importantly, our daughter retook the SSAT two more times and her scores improved each time which helped her get accepted into all three schools to which she applied. My son is working with Nitin for SAT prep. Not only has my son improved his score by almost 300 points (more than Nitin actually thought was possible), my son has had a great time working with him and getting to know him. Nitin has become a mentor to him and helps him not only with SAT, but managing other things in his life. Nitin has taught him about meditation and how to prepare for any test or any big event where you want to perform at your best. While Nitin might be expensive, I feel that each lesson adds value that simply does not stop with the SAT. He is learning skills that he will use the rest of his life. My son also used Ryan for AP Calculus prep. Ryan helped him prepare for BC Calculus and he only worked with my son a handful of times. He told my son that he already could score a 5 and did not need extra lessons. While I was apprehensive about this decision, he indeed scored a 5. My son worked with Liz for Spanish AP prep. I liked that Liz gave my son a baseline exam and said that in the time they had the most that he would be able to score was a 4. They only had a 2-3 weeks to prepare and he worked hard in those weeks and got the 4. She really pushed him to attain his best result. Overall, I could not be happier with Marks Education. All the tutors I have used have been fantastic. While they might be expensive, it is money well spent and was a very efficient use of my son's limited time. read more

I've had a great experience working with Nitin Sawhney. He helped me prepare for the SATs in high school. I had such a great experience that my sister took lessons from him 2 years later, and we've referred him to several friends who have enjoyed working with him as well. He was helpful with all aspects of preparation: mastering the material through practice and tactical strategies for taking the test on testing day. He provided constructive feedback and much appreciated support throughout the entire process. This past year, I reached back out to him to see if he had any recommendations for how to best prepare for the GMAT.
