Brought a trail bike in after buying from a private seller. Asked them to look at the carb, replace two bolts in the foot peg mounts. That was about two weeks ago. Called several times today only to get sent straight to voicemail? Literally drove my ass down there because I couldn't get anyone on the phone. My bike wasn't done, the guy there didn't know what it needed work on because he couldn't find the god damn invoice. Below poor customer service. There was none....Bike's still there. After reading every review, this seems like a common problem and has been for over a decade? Then you can see the owner say sorry, this isn't how we operate? Flat out lie! WARNING,WARNING,Do not use marks cycle store .I had my honda 90 in his store since 3-13-2015.i recievied an estimate on repairs and proceded to have the work done.The bike smoked so bad it could not be driven ,He proceeded to repair the smoking problem and had dis assembled the bike. I had stopped in to check on repair since 3-13-2015 at least 10 times since i had taken it in for repairs.He said he would repair my honda 90 and complete the repairs.Since Mark is never there his mecanic Jayson said the repairs would be complete by 8-10 2018.I went to pick my bike and it was never touched .I have removed it from his shop to have the bike repaired by a Qualified Cycle Mechanic.Iam proceedin He had charged me $930.91 to make repairs,and nothing was completed.I would never recommend marks cycle store to anyone,he be put out of business so other people do not get RIPPED OFF. So, I have called on two separate occasions now, over one year apart. The first time I was looking for a part for an older bike, a side cover for a VF700 to be exact. When I called and asked if they might have one in their mini junk yard, the person who answered quickly said "NO" and hung up without another word. The second (and more recent time), I was asking how much to get a 190/50/17 Tire put on as I noticed a nail in mine while in the garage. He said to bring the wheel in off the bike and it would be some amount that seemed on the higher side of still reasonable. I said that I do not have a stand for the bike, I hadn't had a bike without a center stand before and had only recently bought it. So I asked if I could just bring it in. The guy on the phone then seemed annoyed and said "Well if you don't have the tools to take it off yourself and bring it to us, be prepared to pay a lot more." I asked how much was a lot more, even though I was already annoyed by his tone. He wanted an additional $80! CRAZY Called Sierra power sports, the only other place in town, there price was only about $30 lower than Mark's, but atleast they were very friendly. I ended up riding down to Auburn powersports. came out $100 less than marks wanted, and they only charged an additional $10 to take the wheel off the bike and change the Tire. Long story short, Grass valley shops are robbery. If you want a terrible attitude to go with your mugging, visit Mark's. read more

Never had a need to go into Mark's for 10+ years of living here, and I have no idea what the negative reviews are about. I called up, described a problem with my quad, and got some ideas from the staff at Mark's. I brought it down and expected to get it back a week or two later. LATER THAT DAY, I got a call saying it was done, new battery installed, a tender, and the cost was well below what I expected. They even kept trying to help me load the quad up on my truck even though I didn't need help. Service about as good as you could possibly hope for. read more

Super bad ridiculous experience. Called and advised i just purchased a 3 yr old Scooter. Wanted them to check it out. It was sputtering a bit. Took 7 weeks and 3 calls, 3 visits to get them moving. Mark himself added 3 oz oil, changed spark plug, and tried to charge me $385.00. He claimed he did valve adjustment but I know he did not, as it would require a new gasket and he told me he could not find parts. I refused to pay $385 for nothing, riding season over,and gave him $90 basically for plug and oil. I took the scooter to an authorized dealer in Sac. He said it only needed the "brain" a $65 plug in part. Easy peasy. Confirmed no valve adjustment needed or done. Also had to fix the seat lock Mark broke but did not tell me. These guys are the worst of the worst ...this guy ian who works at marks for mark is one of the biggest douche bags I have ever in countered! The quality level of his workmanship was sub-par! I just had a very positive experience with Marks Cycle's service department. I got a flat up north past the Yuba River swimming hole. Sadly my patch job failed and needed a new tire. It was Saturday at 4pm when I called and spoke to Joe. He didn't have my odd tire size in stock but said he'd reopen the service dept late Sat night if I could get the bike towed there and tire brought in. Well, I got a tire and my bike there and after store hours he and a shop tech got it installed on my BMW. I bought them pizza and paid a fair price. It's going the extra mile that makes a difference. If I could I would give them a 0. Awful service, no one knows what they are doing. Took my UTV for an oil change and a "week" later (yes, it took them that long to answer the phone) they told me it needed to have the engine rebuilt. They even talked about multiple rings failing (it only has one cylinder), they mentioned coolant in the oil, even though it is an air cooled engine. Long story short I rescued it 3 weeks later (again, that long to get someone to speak to me) and took it to a different shop. Lo and behold, the mechanic at the other shop figured out that they had flooded the engine with oil and everything was just full of it. Thankfully, not dead, but now I'll have to deal with smoke from all of the stupidity and who knows what else they are doing there! read more

I took my bike to these guys with a carb problem. The mechanic said they'd buy a carb kit for $45 and install it for a hundred. I was also looking for a used kickstand. They said it would be about a week. Over a month later, I got my bike back, paid around $350, and they said They fixed the problem, but didn't need the carb kit. I was happy with the used kickstand ($50) and the new rear brakes (just over $100). But the real reason I went there was for the carb problem. Also, when his "mechanic" put my bike back together, he didn't even clip my fuel hoses back to the bottom of my tank. Now they're sitting directly on hot cylinders! WTF?! Now my bike doesn't even start and I'm out the $350...Total bum deal. When I told Mark, the owner, about it he told me to bring the bike back to his shop, which is 42 miles away from me and it no longer runs...?? So disappointed. read more

I bought a used motorcycle from marks motocyles and was told it was fully looked over and in complete working order. After purchasing the bike I went to pick it up and noticed it was leaking. I asked them to fix it and look it over again since it clearly had not been properly checked. I returned again, this time coming all the way from the bay area, only to discover it was still leaking this time from a different area. I decided to ask for a refund since they had obviously not been honest about fixing the bike and should never have put it on the lot. They refused to give me a refund until I had to come in to the shop in person and demand my money back. I asked around to some other people who I know have gone there and they all said they have been shafted or know someone who has had a similar experice with Marks motorcycles. I brought my quad in on Thursday 7/21/2016 for a carburetor cleaning and rebuild. A job that takes about 3 hours. I live in San Diego but keep my quad in Grass Valley with friends. I was told it would be a week before they could get to it. I said that was fine. 2 weeks went by and I had not heard from them. I called and was told by Randy it would be worked on in a day or two. Another week went by and still I heard nothing. Called again and was told again it would be a day or 2 and that they found a rebuild kit for 56 dollars. Another week went by and another call. This time we were told that the person with the rebuild kit didn't want to sell it to them. I told them it one more week It was going to picked up and taken to Auburn Powersports if it was not done. Well today on 8/25/2016 it was picked up and taken in to Auburn Powersports. 5 FREAKING WEEKS of NOTHING!!! For a simple carb rebuild. I am 61 yrs old and without a doubt this is the worst dang people I have ever had the displeasure to do business with. I only gave one star because there is not negative stars to give. I would even be faster to take your bike/quad to Sacramento than to rely on these morons!! Stay the Hell AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE unless your don't the work performed then these are your guys!! read more

I have been here many times as we only have two motorcycle shops in town. When just needing new parts Mark does have a decent selection for the size of the store and can order anything I have tried to order. My first bad experience came when I needed a used part out of their junkyard. The helper he had through a temper tantrum my three year old daughter would have, when he had to pull it off the bike out in the yard. He argued with me for 15 minutes about how its not worth his time. When he finally did it, it took about 3 minutes. He then charged me $30 when it was only $25 to order it new. He did soon get rid of that helper and I returned. I had him replace my front fork seals and did a good job with quick service. My next experience was when I had some carburetor problems. My carburetor was leaking gas and was stuck open. I told them what the problem was and they said they would take care of it. This time the service was very slow. When I did finally pick up my bike I started it in the parking lot and there was no gas leaking but it was still stuck open. After a couple more weeks they kept telling me it was the throttle cable, that I had checked a few times before taking it to them and I knew was not the problem. After many calls they finally took the carburetor apart again and found the broken slide. so I picked up my bike and again started it in the parking lot and it started right up. A few days later I tried to go for a ride. Again it started right up. I let it warm up and turned off the choke and it died. It would not run with the choke off. I then took it back. for weeks he just kept telling me he couldn't find a problem. I finally picked it up not running. When I took my carburetor to a family friend a couple hours away, I should have done in the first place to save the headache and now months without my bike, all that was wrong was my fuel mixture screw was closed not allowing air into the carburetor. Something that should have been check as soon as it was brought back. I will never again go to the joke of a shop. read more

So I am letting the steam settle as I write this review. I have been riding for 32 years and today I bought my first full face helmet. So I did a little research and couldn't find one that suited me. Someone suggested Mark's cycle. Aha yes a good idea I thought. It was a huge mistake and one I will not make again. With my little experience with full face helmets I purchased one for total $183.00. I decided I would go to my office and check the prices on-line quickly. ( I admit I should have done this before I purchased the helmet but I thought Mark's Cycle had been around for a long time I think I could trust them.) I found the helmet for more than $100.00 less than I paid on every site I checked. This took me a whole maybe 10 or 15 minutes at the most since my office is right up the street. I returned quickly to Mark's Cycle I told them I wanted to return the helmet. The guy at the counter asked me why and I told him. I watched him check several on-line sites to see if what I was telling him was true. And there it was for him to confirm. He said he had to talk to the owner and a few minutes later told me I could not return it. I replied I just bought it 15 minutes ago. He said sorry. He said he would return some of the money. I had some choice words and expressed my dissatisfaction to say the least and walked out with a $60.00 refund after arguing my point for about 10 minutes because that was the only choice I was left with. Well they gave me a used part for 2.5 times the price of what I have found new parts on the internet. That is what has me most upset if they would of communicated that this part was going to be 600.00 plus shipping and 3 hours labor for a plug in part with two additional plug ins. I would of said wait a minute. I was actually warned from a variety of local motorcycle heads. I would say bring the parts and make sure your clear with the labor taken to put in the parts. The work they do becomes just as expensive as the bike itself you have to question the motivation of people who take advantage of locals in a small town. Not everyone here grows cannibis. Some people work for there money. Shop around drive down the hill and save a ton. read more

I had a bad experience here. My scooter would start but the engine wouldn't engage. I brought it in to Mark's on the scheduled day, and weeks went by with no word. I called them and they said that one of the guys was sick, so there was a huge backlog. OK, understandable. They didn't finish the work until 1.5 months after I brought it in. When I went to pick it up, it turns out that a mouse built a nest inside the engine compartment. They removed the debris, but for some reason they also replaced the belt and the rollers, which was work that I did not authorize, and in the case of the rollers, I wasn't sure why it was needed. When I got the scooter home, it ran but didn't seem to be shifting gears correctly. It was revving and stalling as I accelerated, and the top speed was now about 45 mph (it used to be around 60 mph). After a few rides, I decided to take it to an authorized Yamaha dealer in Yuba City. They put in a new clutch assembly, and asked why I had aftermarket rollers installed. They showed me how the rollers were not the correct ones for my clutch, and they had caused wear on the clutch plate, causing the clutch to become stuck in the damaged, grooved areas. And, there was still debris in the bike from the mouse. So... not only did Mark's not completely fix the original problem (the mouse nest), they did unauthorized work (and charged me for it) that caused the clutch to fail and required an additional $250 repair. I don't know what these guys were thinking. Never going back to them! read more
