Nothing fancy, just quality meat on a great tasting bun. Fries were good too but they could have been a bit more crispy. If you want takeout, look for the sign outside that says "takeout" or "carry out" or "takeaway" and go down the stairs. You need to go down to the kitchen if you're ordering your food to go. Be prepared to wait 10 to 15 minutes for your order during busier times. Burger with cheddar and the order of fries was about £10 total. Not the deal of a lifetime but I have no complaints.

Saw several locations before finally stopping in this one, my curiosity piqued by their advertising…read moreof being THE spot to get a "proper burger." Spoiler alert, they are overpriced and need improvement, as do the shakes. The burgers at the pub across the street are probably a better bet, unfortunately. Burger was received as ordered, double-stack. Their house beer cheese is tasty and the beef is flavorful and juicy. However, the patties are poorly formed, largely unseasoned, and small (6oz, hence the double). Mixed feelings on this but a burger shouldn't be domed in the middle nor should it be without basic seasoning unless it really is superior quality. And even then! We also ordered a freakshake, something they're known for. Our server said they were out of multiple ingredients to make it, so we switched to an alcoholic shake (Reeses with a shot of rum, as advertised). We received a thin, icy concoction that didn't taste much like peanut butter, along with a separate shot to be mixed in ourselves, making the consistency even thinner. Oh, and they charged us more by billing separately for the shot. Two thumbs down, zero effort.

Thankfully Byron was still open and able to seat us. My husband and I both had the Byron burger with a beer and my niece indulges in the brownie sundae. The bacon was thick, the cheddar was plentiful and the Byron sauce added a nice layer of flavor but didn't overwhelm the burger. Our waitress was attentive but not hovering and pleasant to have. The food was simple and tasty. Nothing super fancy, but hit the spot at this late hour. Great local chain that reminded me of some of the local chains back home. Simple, good food. No fuss, but grills a good burger.

The burger was extremely juicy, and came out medium just as I wanted. The fries were crunchy and mostly intact as they removed what I call the 'burnt ends' that I do not care for. Id recommend their house made ketchup, rather than their experimental mayonnaise dip. Their experimental mayonnaise is made with leftover chicken drippings/skin, and while bold, I just don't think it quite works. But I don't think this affects the overall extremely positive review because it's just one type of dip among many. 5/5

FOOD I got the double smashed burger with cheddar cheese…read more I've never had a burger in England before and didn't know what to expect. As an American, I feel we have good authority on knowing a good vs bad burger. However, exposure to quantity of burgers doesn't always mean they're QUALITY. Honest Burgers humbled me with their quality. This was the best burger I've had in recent memory. I want to say "of all time" because it might be. A picture is worth a thousand words so please check out my photos to see what I'm talking about. First, the attention to the bun was epic. Toasted root beer brown instead of just slapping some buns out of a bag together and calling it a day. Every bite reminded me someone took the time to toast the bread and it worked so well with the meat. Second, the smash patties were cooked so nicely that they had that brown fatty crusting on the edges that gave that familiar beef flavour. Perfectly salted. Now the third reason is they did the right thing with the cheese. They didn't just melt it - they melted and crisped it on the edges to complement those perfect patties. It was filling but I almost ordered a second burger, which I've never contemplated in my life before. To give credit to American burgers, I think this place studied American cuisine and found a way to make it better. The chopped onions and sliced pickles at the bottom of their burgers (delicious and in my photos) is reminiscent of the McDonald's formula, but gourmet. The rosemary chips (French fries) were seasoned nicely but, obvious from the photos, weren't the main attraction. I'd give the fries a 4 out of 5. Didn't get a chance to try their many sauces but guess what? I'll be back tomorrow for that! SERVICE Excellent and friendly service. Conversational yet hustling which is a great sign of management and hiring. AMBIANCE Lovely artisanal burger joint. Decent amount of searing and centrally located on the street.
