I dreaded going there for the first time, but was immediately put at ease. Timothy met me, sat down with me and explained everything. Although I arrived with a rough draft of the obituary, Timothy helped me finalize it and select a photo. He explained about the cremation process, explained the various urns. I opted for the compostable one, as I am planning to spread the ashes. I asked about the certified Death Certificate. Timothy was very helpful. I was ready to purchase 10+, but he advised that 5 would probably be more than sufficient and if I needed add'l ones, just phone Walker's and they will order them. It turns out he was correct--5 has been plenty. He did not try to oversell in any way. He was very respectful of the grieving process. When I returned to collect the "cremains", I again was assisted by wonderful staff who helped make a sad event not quite so sad. I highly recommend Walker's Chapel Hill. They show compassion and respect and assist throughout the process.

As a veteran, we had trouble getting information from the VA and after days of calls, Holloway took over that process and suddenly everything was easier. Holloway communicated with us throughout the process (and called us so we never had to chase info from them) and we always knew exactly where we were in the process. This was so important to us as we were coordinating many details for family. I can't express how comforting they were. We chose to purchase a casket online and have it shipped to the funeral home and there was no pressure to buy from them. They coordinated the delivery, called to let us know when it arrived, and allowed us to inspect it to ensure all was right. Many things were difficult during this time but Holloway was one of the few bright spots and we'll be forever grateful.

If you can use another funeral home do so! It's hard writing…read morethis review, but my family has been given so many issues on top of the heartache that we had when a family member passed away. When we contacted the business we dealt with 3+ people regarding the service which made it very difficult to communicate and ensure everything was taken care of properly. We had to basically start over with each new person and explain the situation over and over again which created confusion on the price and service. They promised to place a grave marker at the gravesite, but we still do not have one 4 months later! When we called the business the attendant acted like it was our fault and tried to make it seem like we didn't pay for the grave marker. Now the only way we can remember where the grave is located by a picture we took with our cell phone and it being one of the only grave sites without a marker (even though the attendant at the funeral home said the cemetery removes grave markers ). As I said before, for your own sake, use another funeral home. (Who will respect your loved one enough to put a grave marker by the grave as promised)

I can't begin to thank the staff of Knotts Funeral Service enough for their sensitivity,…read moreprofessionalism, and general overall friendliness during this painful period in my life. I had to fly out from California after my brother died in late March. Heather, over at the Crisis Center of the Chapel Hill Police Department, kindly provided me with a list of funeral homes. While everyone was professional, they were also almost twice as much as Knotts. And while I know it might appear unseemly to some to consider costs when it comes to planning the death of a loved one, it was less about the cost of cremating my brother than the way cremation was presented. Each person I spoke with at Knotts took their time with me. I never felt rushed nor did I feel like I was just a potential sale (as I did at a few of the others). While I will probably not need their services again, I can't recommend them highly enough. They are a small, family-owned business and it showed in every aspect of the process. Thanks, everyone. You made the pain a little more bearable for me and I hope others read this review and take my advice and use your services.
