This guy- John Gay literally attacked me b/c he didnt like my attitude. I admit I was a pissy…read morepatient that day but my behaviour in no way warranted physicality. He shoved and pushed me with this chest b/c he and tall asst are terrible at their jobs, rude and do not like receiving the same attitude they greet the people they are supposed to be helping. I complained to the College of Dentistry to which he used a lawyer to speak and lie for him saying I was looking for drugs and threatening violence. If you can avoid this man and his lacky they are not worth your health being at risk and do not deserve ANYONES money. Its too bad people like this end up getting to do what they want. This man abused the power position he is lucky enough to have been given.

"The one with the laughing gas."…read more The Good: Very nice and professional surgeon who was thorough in his explanation of the procedure and the recovery process; surgery was done very quickly and recovery only took 4 days; didn't have to take any pain pills that were given to me as a precaution; painless! The Bad: Had to wait about 20 minutes to get into the surgical room and then had to wait another 20 for the surgeon to wrap up his previous appointment (although you can't really blame him, apparently the previous patient was late) Overview: I had to take out one wisdom tooth (yes, I'm lucky!) on my bottom right jaw. My appointment was July 15. Dr Gay was very thorough in analyzing my x-ray and explaining to me what had to be done and why. He then went over the choice of anesthetics and offered me to choose. I went with all three (Nitrous Oxide aka "Laughing Gas" + IV + Freezing). The procedure went flawlessly with me passing out right after he gave me the IV (right before he gave me the IV I was given the gas with N2O to help me "loosen up"). I then woke up to have someone stick a gauze in my jaw and have me bite down. The nurse then guided me over to the rest room where I lay down on a bed with a blanket over me while I recovered from the effects of the IV (felt a little light-headed but that was expected). She handed over a kit with gauze, a syringe and more reading material on the recovery process to my brother and went over the do's and don'ts in detail. She then scheduled a follow-up checkup the following week, where she'd also go over what was going to be done with that plastic syringe she provided in the kit. The freezing numbed the inside of my mouth completely and I felt no pain. Bleeding stopped after 3 hrs or so and I didn't need the gauze anymore. For the next two days there was a bit of swelling with the most two days after but it was overall painless! Had to take anti-biotics that he gave me though (3 pills a day of Novamoxin until the bottle was completely done). Didn't have to take any of the Tylenol 3 he prescribed, so I guess he must have done a pretty decent job. Had to eat congee for about a week though. After about 4 days, I was OK to go back to work and the swelling was completely gone. I still couldn't open my jaw all the way though, but that was expected as it was a little sore still. Went back the following Wednesday for the courtesy appointment. This time, a nurse invited me to a room where she went over how the syringe is used with salt-water to clear food out of the wound. Didn't hurt as she went through the demonstration (actually felt refreshing) and after that I tried it out and that was it. It's been about 3 weeks now and I'm back to my normal eating habits completely. My jaw's fine now and I'm really thankful I had a good doctor (heard horror stories of some people that took a lot longer). If you're looking for a highly professional dentist with a quick recovery process, give Dr Gay a try! [Extra/Helpful Tips] If you're parking downstairs in the parking lot be aware that there's a 2 hr limit! There are some random local restaurants and a Shoppers Drug Mart in the same plaza so your friend/family member that came with you can wait around until you're done (you're not allowed to drive home afterward and probably shouldn't anyway). It's just after Lawrence on the east side of McCowan - turn into the Shoppers Drug Mart and walk towards Lawrence. It's right before the TD bank, on the second floor. - Simon

I come by my dentist whenever I need a dental cleaning…read more My dental hygienists are always super nice and take their time to provide a spectacular service. At the end of each session, the dentist will come in the room just to check if I have any cavities. If you're a student using insurance from your university, you'll still have to pay a large price (more than without the insurance) for your teeth cleaning. Just an FYI.

My rating is five stars for my dentist and dental hygienist. It's three stars for the…read moreadministrative staff. When I moved back to Markham over a decade ago, I needed a dentist. I didn't like my old dentist, which both my parents still go to. I needed a change. I have been seeing Dr. Clarence Lau for all my needs ever since. His office is a five-minute drive from my home. Dr. Lau is a competent, friendly dentist. He has addressed a couple of odd chipped teeth that I have had in the past. The first one required a second appointment. The other one was my front tooth and was so minor that he made the fix right on the spot, after my usual teeth cleaning, which I appreciated. I still can't tell to this day that my teeth were chipped! He is also skillful when redoing a few of my old silver fillings with tooth-coloured ones. He is the best. The only gripe that I have is dealing with the administrative staff. I understand that they pull estimates before my appointment, to determine whether my dental plan will cover everything and whether I need to cough up the difference. Over the years, my plan has changed where they can get a yes or no from my insurance company, but not details. The details require my agreeing to reveal them. In the past, they would call me for the details. I said that I do not want to be doing this procedure every six months. Last Wednesday, I had an appointment for regular cleaning and a checkup. My new dental hygienist was friendly and did a great job cleaning my teeth. I typically don't have issues with my teeth. I'm that type of person who brushes with an electric toothbrush and flosses, doing both tasks twice a day. I suppose that good dental hygiene came with having braces for a few years back in grade 5. Anyway, as I sat in the waiting room the other day, one of the administrative staff was on the phone with my insurance. She then called me over to talk to some guy and she asked for approval for more details. I first asked whether I would have to speak with him every time I go to a dental appointment. He explained to me that the dental office needs to allow five days for an estimate to go through. I relayed that basic information to the administrative person. She said that she would explain the whole thing later. After my dental appointment, this administrative woman went into the whole calendar year period that my plan runs on and when she needs to pull an estimate. I explained to her that I should not be involved in her internal procedures with my insurance and in providing authorization for an estimate because she can't do her job. I am here as a patient to go in for my appointment, get the dental care that I need, and have my insurance cover the cost. I do not want to be involved listening in on a call that covers her work task and speaking to my insurance because she was late getting her act together. It was highly unprofessional. Anyway, I like getting an invoice at the end saying that I have nothing to pay. The invoice also states when my next appointment is, so I have a record of it. I also like the travel-sized dental floss and toothpaste, and dentist-branded toothbrush that I get after each appointment. It feels like I got a party favour... haha! (183)

When i asked her for her name she put me on hold just to cowardly run away and never bothered to get back to me. Every dentist/doctor has a receptionist and if the receptionist is this rude why would you want to go to a place that will take care of your teeth/ health when the first line of defense speaks to you with such attitude? The receptionist not only was speaking rude but also calls me stupid?? The dentist is fine, the place is clean but the people who handle your money and appointments are not trained well with patients or even how to speak to a human being. I advise anyone looking for a dentist to look the other way or else you will get a call early in the morning before you even brush your teeth and will take their anger out on you just because you weren't notified of an appointment.
