Can someone please tell me: 1) Do they do birthday venues? 2) What the cost per head(guest)?

Every time I say that I'm heading over to or hitting downtown Markham, it still sounds weird to me…read more I will admit that it is growing on me after a few years. Like downtown Mississauga, downtown Markham is fairly new. The notion was to create condos and have locals walk to businesses. Enterprise Boulevard is a pleasure to drive along to head there. Stores, condos, and new developments continue to be built, including York University's new Markham Center Campus in Fall 2023. Currently, York U. has YSpace Markham, which supports folks who are innovators in technology, and food, and beverage sectors. Before the pandemic, I rarely hit the downtown core. I only visited Chatime, ME-VA-ME, and Cineplex VIP. During this pandemic, I have been able to discover cool new places. Copper Branch. Comebuy. Poke Guys. South St. Burger. I love how cool the Marriott hotel looks here. One of these days, I'll need to book some time here and check it out, along with its fabulous restaurant. I am a regular bubble tea customer at Comebuy and Chatime. Who knew? I have been supporting both regularly for the past 1.5 years and have established a nice rapport with staff. There is only one Comebuy in the GTA. If I'm away for a rare couple of weeks, staff are literally concerned. One made sure before Christmas 2020 to let me know what their hours of operation were, so I wouldn't be disappointed not getting any bubble tea! There is plenty of parking. There are lots that are primarily free. I have yet to be asked to pay for parking. In front of Comebuy and Poke Guys, even where street parking isn't exactly available, parking briefly to fetch takeout is okay. I have yet to see any parking police come over and I am rarely parked longer than five minutes. There is an indoor merry-go-round at the northwest corner of Birchmount and Enterprise. I admire it from afar these days. It has been closed since the pandemic, but looked magical and festive around the Christmas holidays. Back in the summer of 2017, I came here for the Markham ribfest. It moved from Warden and highway 7 over here. I had an excellent time, despite getting caught in the rain and getting soaked trying to get to my car from the venue. I do miss seeing events downtown and hope that they return when it's safe. I like it here. It's constantly growing and changing. It's nice to briefly admire the lights in the wintertime and people-watch in the summer. (263)

It will take years to complete but I like what they are doing. An area that local residents can meet up, eat, shop and play and even actually live in the immediate area. There are a mix of franchise and smaller independent businesses has set up shops here: Cineplex VIP, Milestones, Marriott, Chatime, Golf Town, Aroma Espresso, just to name a few. Good Catch, Poke Guy, Lucullus Bakery, Kiu Japanese are some of the smaller independent restaurants. The annual Markham Ribfest has moved here and for this Summer there was live performance every Saturday night. I looking forward to all the future development and hopefully I don't need to go downtown Toronto for a fun night out and instead can just hop by Downtown Markham!

Shangri-La ... the name sounds so exotic and it seems everyone has tried their dim sum or attended…read morea wedding/event here except us. Off we went! The lobby had an interesting fountain surrounded by pieces of artwork, and a very large wall decorated with huge paper-like flowers. It would make a nice backdrop for pictures if you were so inclined. We made a reservation for 9:30 a.m. to try their early bird promotion of ordering any size dish (small, medium and large) for the price of $3.50 each (weekdays only). I'm not sure if it was just a quiet week, but there was only one person when we arrived. I was able to snap pictures and pick a table, any table! The dining room took me by surprise. The tables and chairs were draped with cream and gold colored linen, and the stage area was completely adorned floor to ceiling with more of the ginormous paper-like flowers, strands of crystal and upon closer look, the purple and pink fluorescent lights seem to be coming from spotlights. I liked how the ceiling was completely draped in silver colored shimmery fabric. I would describe the stage as being very dramatic and sparkly ...lol Tip #1: It is quite dim inside and my better half had to use a flashlight/magnifier from his phone to take a look at the menu ... guess he doesn't have 20/20 vision as he claims! The service was friendly and efficient, and not as rushed or impersonal as other places we've dined at. The food came quickly but not all at once, and we appreciated the flow as we ordered quite a bit. The presentation of the dishes was quite nice. The dishes we ordered tasted similar and comparable to other establishments. * Chiu Chow Dumplings * Cuttlefish in Curry Sauce * Chicken Feet in Special Sauce * Beef Tripe with Ginger & Green Onion * Rice Roll with Fish & Cilantro * Chicken Pie in Portuguese Sauce * Spring Roll with Shredded Chicken & Taro * Deep Fried Taro Dumpling * Pan Fried Dumpling with Chives * Puff with BBQ Pork A few dishes were truly a miss: * Bovine Tendons - this is one of my favorite dim sum items and I was looking forward to trying it. The tendons were very hard and chewy, and most definitely not simmered enough. My mother-in-law said to take it home and simmer it again ...lol * Sticky Rice with Preserved Meat & Dried Shredded Pork - the rice was al dente and quite bland * Baked Sago with Egg Pudding - one of my favorite desserts and the size of the bowl was quite misleading. I've always been able to share this dessert, but it turned out to be very shallow with just a few spoonfuls! My mother-in-law doesn't eat desserts, and my better half said to enjoy ...lol Overall, our dim sum was good and we enjoy trying new places. There are more items on the menu that are worth trying as well, so you will definitely find some of your tried and true, along with uniquely different dishes. Tip #2: Shout out to Emily L. for letting me know there is a 35-cent charge for each container. We were prepared and brought our own for leftovers! Thank you Emily! Price: Tea $2.00 per person Total: $55.00 + tax + tip Note: I steamed both the tendons and sticky rice for about 45 minutes at home and it made a nice light snack!

I helped my sister-in-law organize her pre-wedding party here a few years ago and we got a private room with 2 tables and I remember both food and service was wonderful. I can't say that it was the best dim sum but it was very tasty. I also liked the fact that there were a few dishes that were either new or prepared in a different way like the dumpling in soup, deep fried shrimp balls, and seaweed fish sticks. I originally ordered 3 dumplings in soup but the server recommended for us to change it to 1 order. She told us that one is pretty big and there would be enough for the 5 of us to share. I didn't really believe her so I just changed to 2. I was so wrong....this dumpling was huge! We were so stuffed after sharing the dumplings. I would recommend ordering one as well if you want to try other dishes or order less. The fish sticks looked like Japanese maki rolls but with cooked fish paste....interesting but I probably wouldn't order it again. The food was a bit pricey on the weekends. It is much cheaper if you come on the weekday before 11am. It was a nice change from going to the busy and noisy dim sum places.

Bayview Village

This was my first time attending an event at Village Loft, operated by Oliver and Bonacini. Wow!…read moreThe venue, food, and service were all on point The venue, located on the upper level of a standalone building in the parking lot of Bayview Village, was a warm and inviting space, with brick and wood walls, large windows, and very intimate lighting. We used two of the three available sections and it was more than enough space. The event was a baby shower luncheon and the menu was very appropriate, with a variety of roving hors d'ouevres, salads, sandwiches, and desserts that satisfied everybody's appetite. The salads were all colourful, fresh, and tasty, with a good variety to choose from. The sandwiches - salmon, chicken, pulled pork, and vegetarian - were all delicious, as were the desserts. Personally, I would have preferred a tad less dressing on the salads but maybe that's just me. The service was also excellent, from the moment I walked in and was greeted with smiles by all the staff. Used plates were cleared from the tables very efficiently and the buffet table was replenished quickly. Overall, this was a great experience and a very enjoyable baby shower!

I liked the fact they got an elevator to get us to the 2nd floor, as the venue is there. Then I found out this venue is part of the O&B group, there's a certain aura this venue signifies as well as a standard O&B represents. I like! I like the setup as the food came in the middle, and we serve ourselves. I like that configuration. I can control portion on my own. First came the appetizers and there's risotto ball, and warm salad. Surprisingly they taste quite decent even though it was mass produced. Then the mains came after about half hour and there's all three choices of beef, chicken and fish. So I am not stuck with one. The biggest surprise were the beef and fish. As I mentioned earlier, banquet food tends to flop when it is mass produced. But not here, the beef came out soft and juicy still and the fish actually tasted good. I didn't have chicken as I was full by then. Dessert were homemade doughnut balls and a tiramisu. These were dynamite. I had an extra serving of these wonderful goodies. Overall experience is very nice. Food was good and service is quite good.
