Kind staff and fast and they have a huge selection. But no no on the bagels. They're small and I ordered vegetable cream cheese - but there's not really any veggies in it. Maybe a shedding or two of carrots but it's supposed to be loaded with celery and olives! Bad pickup experience Lady at the counter today, who I was inquiring about my Yelp takeout order asks me to download the app called takeout, even though I initially told her that it was through yelp and showed my email confirmation (which she didn't even look). After trying to download the app and see that it asks my CC info, I ask why I should download the app. She finally gives my order but instead, its not the one I ordered. Then I show her again my email receipt and she accuses me of saying that I was picking up through mealpal (??). At this point, I waited for some time and try not to make a scene and there's the impression that she starts arguing with me because apparently I'm the one who misled her. She finally gives my food order yet she misses the soup, and I have to ask for her again, which becomes very awkward as she seems to be in a bad mood. Lady, I understand that its a tough job in what you are doing (because I did this when I was younger) and I'm sure you deal with bad customers very often, but you need to be a little empathetic and considerate about admitting when you do something wrong. And I hope you don't argue with other people in the future because some customers won't be as patient as I am. I reported Yelp for this bad experience and hopefully that lady can be trained in taking takeout orders more appropriately. 2.5 rounded down. I feel like I had a particularly strange Market Crates experience on my most recent lunch delivery with them. This isn't the first time I've ordered here, and in the past, I've stuck with their cobb salad, which is pretty solidly just okay. Nothing terrible but nothing too exciting. This time, I ordered the bella fontina panini (portabella mushroom with porcini puree and fontina cheese on a seven grain roll), crab bisque, and the coconut passionfruit chiaseed pudding. Delivery comes, and my crab bisque is completely missing. :( But I call them up and the woman apologizes and says they'll get the soup to me. No problem, I'll eat my sandwich and pudding in the mean time. The sandwich was unexpected. I am fairly certain that the porcini puree was replaced with hummus. I ate the whole sandwich, so it obviously wasn't awful, but I definitely would have preferred more mushroom flavor. I guess I could have called them up again, but I felt too awkward doing that after calling for the bisque. The sandwich was also cold and a bit soggy, which I think made a big difference for the worse. The portabello was good though! Chia seed pudding was delicious, albeit a little too sweet. Also, it's called coconut passionfruit, but I tasted 100% coconut and zero passionfruit. Oh well. Crab bisque came about an hour later, and the delivery guy also was very apologetic. I don't have anything negative to say about the customer service! Bisque was meh. Crab flavor, but straight broth with no lumps of even imitation crab meat. I almost wish I didn't bother them about the bisque, because I could have done without it. Anyway, this was probably my worst experience with Market Crates, but the customer service is very accommodating and wants to make your order right. I am not sure if I'll order from here again, but if I do, I'll just stick with the salad. read more

My friends hot chocolate was practically just milk with a sprinkle of hot chocolate. I ordered a rainbow bagel and it was just a bagel nothing special, you could taste the food coloring though. Had the Rosemary Turkey Plate via Mealpal during my last visit here. I was pretty disappointed when I saw that they've already prepackaged my order beforehand and just pull it out from underneath the counter. It would've been better if it was prepared fresh and assembled in front of the customer. I understand, its easier and less time consuming, but I'd rather wait a little longer for a better tasting meal. The meal wasn't overly horrible and it got me decently full. The turkey was a little on the dry side, but it was no biggie. The potatoes were seasoned wonderfully and the mandarin oranges and grapes added a sweet little kick to the salad provided. The gravy over the rice and turkey hardened and congealed, which was a real downer. Overall, Market Crates is a pretty decent place to grab lunch if you're ever in the area. Tried this establishment for lunch yesterday. I got the lemon chicken with carrots, cauliflower and zucchini. The food itself was fine but extremely overpriced. The cost was $19.10 which I found to be unwarranted. In addition and most importantly, I got food poisoning from eating here. Of course, that price point is intoxicating enough to try the place three times before writing a review to say: they've got kinks to work out and for now, it's just okay. They've got four lines- sandwiches, quinoa bowls, hot food bar (dig in knock off), and salad bar. All good ideas, tried them all except the sandwiches and thought they were all fine but not great. The quinoa bowl's chicken is over cooked and doesn't taste fresh at all. The dressings they have at that station all seemingly overpowering and they ended up charging me $3 extra since I wanted cheese and protein and veggies. The salad was fine but the sweet potato was undercooked and way too al dente to enjoy. The hot station's chicken was good, as was its kale salad, but the roasted carrots were absolutely undercooked and borderline inedible. Decent potential at this place, but when $6 deals are over, I'm going to need more convincing. read more

TL, DR: Good food, front of house offers quality customer service, and decent portions for most items. However, they really need to improve on in-house communication to better serve delivery customer and corporate needs. I'd order again for personal needs. But can't currently recommend them for your corporate/catering/time-sensitive group order needs. Long story short: Placed an advanced order for a business meeting. Called two hours before the delivery time to confirm. They confirmed they had the order and it would arrive on time. Fast forward through multiple calls to the order arriving 45 minutes late (including one piss poor excuse where ownership should have been taken, and a delivery person who didn't read directions further delaying arrival) due to the kitchen not communicating to front of house that items within confirmed orders will not be ready on time. Usually just annoying and not a big deal. But when you're setting up catering for an external meeting and trying to get your employer to go with a new catering option? Compound issue. This Market Crates location has been around for nearly 1.5 years. Even so, the occasional hiccup is bound to happen. But all of what happened for my introductory experience were avoidable hiccups if the proper protocols and training are in place. Buff up communication, train delivery people to thoroughly read the order instructions, always take ownership, and contact customers when issues arise. Then you're offering a more appetizing and competitive package within a business concept that is becoming overly saturated in this area. read more

First off--this place smells amazing from the street. I actually ended up at this place because they had a great looking lunch special on Meal Pal--the rosemary turkey plate. The plate came with turkey, brown rice, a salad, and fried potatoes. The brown rice was good--nothing to write home about, as were the potatoes. The salad was very fresh and had a nice flavor to it. I made an order for pickup: Macaroni & Cheese, Broccoli, with Lemon Herb Chicken on top of a Kale Salad or for less than $12 bucks. Which is rare in midtown. The macaroni and cheese was lit, which for me is a big deal because I tend not to like how most restaurants make it as its something that my sister makes so well. The Broccoli was good had a bit of char on it which is good because that's how I like it. While the chicken was supposedly lemon herb I didn't really taste it. For me the Kale Salad is ok, I didn't realize they put raisins in it and I am not a big fan of sweet salads. Overall everything was good and I would definitely come again. I enjoy Market Crates because it affords me a nice option in midtown to fulfill my veggie requirements. They have several options. And I do also love their macaroni and cheese and baked sweet potatoes. I tend to go for the salmon although their other entrees look inviting. Their soups are worth a try. I can't remember which one I enjoyed but it was so good. I also have had their sandwiches which are pretty standard. Not the greatest but not bad either. Their desserts never quite hit the spot though. Very pleasant storefront and bright and cheerful inside. I studied the menu and was almost immediately talked to by the guy making sandwiches in a very friendly way. He helped me decipher what I could choose, though I admit I had difficulty understanding him. Their bagels are not traditional, but they are good. The eggs are fresh, the sausage is turkey - everything here leans toward healthier, I guess. Lots of clearly healthy options like quinoa breakfast bowls with fresh avocado and all sorts of plants. Ask for a couple of ice cubes in your coffee, it comes HOT. I can't say I love it but I'm totally pleased in light of the potential to wait thirty minutes just to order. read more
