Terrific grocery store and so much more! Typical grocery store, but with TONS of to go prepared foods. They have lots of things that are super convenient to grab and heat up at home. This is helpful if staying nearby in one of the hotels. Their bakery is great too. Extensive selection of delicious looking baked goods. They even sell icing and sprinkles on their own so that you can decorate your own baked goods at home. Friendly service and convenient location! Highly recommend. It takes too long to check out, especially with alcohol Today, i was buying three items, one was beer. The young cashier turns on the blinking light and we begin our wait This is my second lane, the others were way too long. Somebody over the airwaves calls for more cashiers, but fails to think about managers who could ok the purchase of alcohol. So we wait and wait. There was one young manager who looked of age, but wasn't. So me and the cashier wait more. .She apologizes. Finally, the lone guy that could check me out casually goes to 2 other blinking lights before coming our way. He obviously saw our need, but Instead of quickly coming over, he casually went to a station near the carts. He took his sweet time leisurely messing around it before slowly walking to our lane. He then said he was sorry for the wait. This is possibly the fifteen time I've waited too long to check out here. I'll pass on this place and go somewhere with better management. I like Market Basket for many reasons--the selection, the prices, the grab and go food. I don't like this store for a couple of reasons. This store is so crowded with people and folks who come in order to talk and gossip instead of shopping. Everywhere I want to look, I have to excuse myself, and half of the time, I still have to push my way to where I want to be. The only time I don't need to do that is an hour or so before it closes. Other Market Baskets don't seem to have the clientele that does that. It is just annoying and I tend to go to other Market Baskets. read more

I don't know that I totally get the Market Basket hype, but I'm glad for all of you that do! Some first impression notes: - I visited the Rock Row location midweek, midday and it was slammed. Like, just as chaotic as Trader Joes during the holidays. I wasn't expecting that! Segue... - The parking lot was also just as bad as Trader Joes during any weekend day. +/- The store is enormous, and there's seemingly dozens and dozens (and dozens and dozens) of options/varieties of just about every product you can think of. It's a little overwhelming. + It's clean! - The cashier felt like a robot. They literally ignored every single thing I said, and stuck to (what felt to me was) a script. - It seems like people like Market Basket because they offer competitive pricing/it's cheaper than other grocery stores, but I don't entirely know that that's true. I walked around and looked at all the plant-based things I purchase elsewhere, and the pricing was nearly the same. + They had my favorite smoothie popsicles from Blentopia (and I haven't seen those anywhere else in over a year!). All in all, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come to Market Basket, but it seems like it really filled a void in Maine's grocery scene. read more

Food is good but the sandwich staff need a serious training in listening and customer service. I stated what i wanted on my sandwiches clearly and multiple times. No one asked for clarity. 2/3 sandwiches were not made correctly. I intervened with the last sandwich and instead of putting condiments on like they usually do on the sides of the sub roll they squirted it all over the top of it so it's impossible to eat without getting mayo everywhere. It was the laziest half hearted attempt at fixing an error I have seen and undertaken with the attitude and disdain of a surly teenager not an adult in a paid customer facing service driven position. Market Basket is great, I liked going there in Biddeford and was very happy when they came to Westbrook. I work in Gorham and so MB is on my way home. Great prices, huge selection, pleasant cashier staff. For several things, this is the only place I can find them. Recently I tried a couple things during my lunch break from the Market Kitchen and wanted to review them here: Hot dogs & fries - Pros - quick, efficient service, crispy fries, large hot dogs, reasonable price ($3 special, usually $4); Cons - the hot dogs were cooked in a machine as opposed to the flat top grill next to it, the buns weren't warmed or grilled or anything, and my first choice for mustard was unavailable because the bottle was empty. It's a whole ass grocery store, you don't have any more spicy mustard? Sushi - I had a promotion to celebrate (supervisor baby!!) so I got myself sushi. I was excited and surprised to see an eel roll, that doesn't seem like what you usually get from your average supermarket sushi. I tried eel for the first time a couple months ago at Sapporo and was over the moon. Market Basket's eel roll had teriyaki sauce, sesame seeds, avocado, seaweed or cucumber I think? and barbecued eel. It was delicious!! I didn't really taste the eel itself, but it was great, well balanced combination of flavors. If you're feeling trepidation about supermarket sushi, don't be worried. Market Basket has always been my to go supermarket for many years ever since it arrived in Maine. And of all the countless time I have been , I have never ordered a pizza from them. Tonight on a rainy Sunday I decided to. I have bought a slice here and there but never a whole pie. Folks the pizza here are 19 " and if you look at my picture of the menu from the kitchen the prices range from $8.99 to $16.99. Tonight, I decided on a 3 toppings pie ( sausage, green peppers and pepperoni) and I am thinking to myself based on ordering out from other places , should I do double cheese?? Most places are so skimpy on cheese. Well let me tell you . You do not need order double cheese here! There's plenty on their standard pizza . 19" pizza , 3 toppings for $14.99!!! Bada bing. Bada boom. Delicious pizza. No where can you get a 3 toppings 19" full of toppings for $14.99 . A repeat. No where. Period. All of this writing just for a pizza. Hey I'm passionate about it :) Now you said there's a catch ? The only catch here is that to freshly make this pie, they need 45 minutes and not sooner. If you want things done right , you need to have patience . Call ahead and order. The steak bomb here is equally delicious. My husband has given up ordering this from them . Again call ahead . The staff at the kitchen are very slow and most have tunnel vision. The pizza and sushi service not so bad, but hot foods areas very slow. You have been warned. Call ahead. read more

I've shopped Market Basket and occasionally I grab something from their premade foods. Today I tried a poke bowl. The flavor was good, fresh avocado and spinach. Seafood .. a couple shrimp and some fake crabmeat. My disappointment was the amount of white rice. SO much white rice. It would be nice to have something more of substance. read more

Super friendly staff and a much bigger selection than the other 2 grocery chains in the area! They also have hot and ready food, and sandwiches/pizza made to go for super reasonable prices. I see lots of families with young kids here all the time, as their grocery dollars can stretch more by shopping at the MB. Last time I was there, there was a freshly made turkey/cheese/veggie sub for 4.99 that could easily feed 2, or possibly three children. As we don't really have many grocery bargains or "cheap eats" in this part of Maine, I am so happy to see MB offering food to families at prices they can afford! read more

While I love Market Basket for many reasons, this location is not my favorite. The setup of this location very odd. You begin in the middle of the store and have to walk through the ice cream and floral to start at vegetables. It's strange confiding most grocery stores start with the main entrance as the vegetable section. But what's really tough about this location is the staff. They are not the best managed staff. They move incredibly slow and it takes a long time to get cashed out. I will cut them slack because this store is incredibly busy but still it's a issue All in all. As the saying goes...good things come to those who wait. We have been patiently waiting for this Market Basket to open because we knew it would be great. Until just recently we were driving about an hour to go to the one in Biddeford. Always worth the drive. The great news, our drive is shorter and this place is just as great as the Biddeford store and all of the other MB we have visited in Mass and NH. Staff - very well trained on providing the best customer service outside of a Chik-Fil-A restaurant. Polite, helpful and fast on their feet. For our visit on the opening opening weekend, a masked but smiling eyed manager welcomed us to the grand opening. The workers stocking and facing shelves were professional and helpful as people needed direction to what they were looking for. The produce silently but quickly moving about stocking the fruits and vegetables, but interestingly I never felt like they were in my way. The staff in the prepared food section were quite busy cooking, filling orders and answering questions. While I couldn't see smiles, I could hear the positive energy and excitement. The manager directing customers to open registers, was on his game. Pivoting and directly quickly with a helpful tone. Calm and skilled like an air traffic controller. The cashier was great and safely behind the plexiglass. The young man bagging....lets just say he was enthusiastic and trying his best. He had a tag indicating he was in his first year...aka new. Things were bagged in weird combinations, cleaning things with food. Frozen with bakery items.... and his attempt at speed....he was throwing the bags into our grocery cart one bag slammed on top of another. He did wish us a nice day as did the manager. I will give him a pass knowing they were still training him. Products - had everything i was looking for, even Maine brands and asian aisle brands. All of the shelves we passed looked full! Absolutely impressive. The only thing we have been able to find in Biddeford we didn't see here...Parker House Rolls. That's ok. i'll keep checking :) Parking - beautiful parking lot, but can be tough if you have a large extended cab truck or a full size fan - we observed them circling around trying to make the tight turns and avoid people. Okay, yes it's their opening weekend and even at that I can give this place a five. Prices are amazing, parking is plentiful, the employees are the best - Im a fan for life at this point. Again, for my family and what we buy, I save a lot more money than other stores and I'm treated the way I would treat others, with kindness. Normally I wouldn't travel to the brook for grocery shopping but this place is worth the travel. The music there is a narcotic mix of 80's and 70's begging me to stay there and spend more money. The prices are comparable to Hannafords and Shaws! They also carry industrial sized snacks that I like and I love snacking. They have an entire wall of yogurt. It's almost overwhelming. The staff is pretty friendly and they don't side eye me if I get quirky like buying ice cream and pickles (also known as pregnancy eating). It can take up to two hours to go up and down every aisle ... go in , get what's on the list and out would be fine for me ... Horrible customer service! The cashier was sitting down, there was nobody behind me! The other registers had lines. So I figured I'd go in the 20 item aisle since this cashier is just sitting. I purchased 2 of the same bags of flour so I told the cashier when you get to that flour I have 2 of them. I'm 70 years old on oxygen and even though they were 5 pound bags of flour I still have a difficult time lifting them. The cashier made a comment that I really didn't understand. She was refusing to take me because her aisle was 20 or less! I got my items back in my cart, she went back to sitting down. I went to a different aisle and paid for my items. I then asked for the front end manager. Believe me he upset me even more. I showed him my receipt to prove I only had 21 items. I also pointed out how the cashier was still sitting so he would know I was being truthful! He said, "I see that." He then said," well it's up to the discretion of the cashier if they want to take you or not!" You call this good customer service? Everything I asked for they didn't have! They had a sign for Italian sausage with fennel. The young man said try tomorrow we might have them then. I drove 45 miles to shop there and he says try tomorrow? I'll never shop here again! Have you ever watched that really old show "Supermarket Sweep"? Because if so, you'll instantly feel like you just stepped into that store. It's so clean and everything is perfectly straight on the shelves. The staff all wear uniforms and were very friendly. The amount of food in that store is crazy and the variety is even better. We walked down every aisle and saw so many products we'd never seen before! The have a large cafe area where you can get pizzas, sandwiches, sushi, coffees, ice cream, popcorn, Chinese food, the list goes on and on. Just wasted 3 hours of my life, and left over $100 worth of groceries at their idiot cashiers. The idiot cashiers they have, apparently need lots of training in order for their customers to pay using a credit card. The cashier ask me for credit, so I inserted the card, and sure enough it kept asking me for a pin. Every other merchant on the planet can explain which button to press , to by pass Debit. market basket employees are just too dumb and not able to aid their customers to the process. after 3 attempts if was finally declined, and this before I told the cashier it will be rejected for too many attempts. NEVER EVER WASTING MY TIME IN A MARKET BASKET. I hope the idiots enjoyed returning my shopping cart full of food back to inventory. read more
