The correct name of this business is:…read more Davenport's Service Station http://www.exxonmobilstations.com/24155-davenports-shelburne I stopped for fuel for the rental car on my way out of Shelburne Falls headed back to Hartford-Bradley International Airport and stopped here. I was surprised to have a lady come out to the car and refuel the car for me! I've not seen a full service gas station in recent memory - except in New Jersey! This station offers Mobil brand fuels. There is also a convenience store here.

I drive a Mercedes and anyone who drives a high-performance German vechicle knows that they should ALWAYS have a minimum octane of 91! This requirement is so important for the engine that there is always a label by the gas cap! The woman was quite busy filling multiple vehicles -- she started mine and went to help someone else. After a few minutes I glanced over and saw that she was putting regular gas in my vechicle!! I jumped out and stopped the pump! When she came over to ask me what I was doing , at told her that people are never supposed to put regular gas in a vehicle like this. She defensively said, "I know that applies to all BMWs,Mercedes, & Audi's" So, I asked her why the hell did she put regular in then?. She replied that when I arrived she said"fill it up with regular?" As I am sure she does to all customers. THAT IS NEGLIGENCE!! If she knows that a vehicles REQUIRES a higher octane she should ask by default fill it up with 91 or 93 octane? She offensively told me a lot of customers put regular in. If that is the case then they should be the ones to request it! Regular gas should not be the default when a vehicle can be damaged by using it! This is the first full-service vehicle I have been to in many years... now I will be aware... but I still think this was negligence on her part!

It's a vehicle that's not all that commonly available in this part of the country, and our price limit was right at the limit of what would be reasonable. He listened to us very carefully, asked lots of important questions, then set out on what can only be properly described as a "quest" -- and FOUND exactly what we were looking for! He was able to negotiate a great deal on it for us, then brought it back to the shop. This is where it gets even more wonderful, because the shop is known for being owned and operated by a mechanic with a sterling personal reputation and professional credentials, having trained in a shop up in Guilford, VT that is literally known as the very best one in the whole area. They assured us they'd go through and fix anything and everything on the vehicle that needed tweeking or repair before we picked it up, to make sure it was up to THEIR standards of excellence -- and that the price would not go above our limit even if they had to eat some of the cost. They explained this is because they shopped for the vehicle with their mechanical expertise, so if it cost more to fix it was that they'd assessed it wrong and should make good on it. Well, long story short, we took delivery of exactly the used vehicle we wanted, in perfect shape, looking like it came off a showroom floor, and it's everything we could have dreamed and hoped for. In the process, we found a mechanic we'll use and trust from now on, and made friends to boot! It's not easy to find a really superior mechanic and shop that has a personal value system based on ethics of doing what's right. Green River Auto is that place! And if you want a used car, I honestly do not see how you can do ANY better than you will if you go talk to Doug there. If he can't find it for you, it's not available. I've lived all over the country, from Texas to California and back again, and I have NEVER found a shop like this one, and never even imagined a person like Doug existed. He's literally come up with a whole new wonderful way to buy a used car you can count on, rely on, and be overjoyed with.

We are new to this area and we drive older vehicles as a necessity. So we need a really reliable…read moremechanic. I am a little bit of a gear-head, having taken apart antique tractors and done repairs on an old flathead V-8 Ford sedan, for instance, and I also happen to be a women in my 60s. That means I expect a mechanic to talk to me, not at me, and to make sense. I know I don't understand that much about modern engines, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid. So I expect quite a bit from a mechanic: competence, respect, and real engagement. What I did, to find a mechanic, was go to the gear-head discussion boards where guys who work on their own cars and trucks advise one another about where to go in the event of a problem that's too big or too baffling for a backyard effort. Very quickly I learned that the mechanic with the best reputation in this entire part of New England (northern western Massachusetts and southern Vermont) is a guy in Guilford, VT. -- *and* that one of his chief mechanics, Rich, had recently set up his own shop in Shelburne, MA near the city of Greenfield. Several guys had already been there for work and sang the shop's praises, saying they'd had Rich work on their cars when he was still in Guilford and that he'd brought the same skills and value system to MA when he opened his own shop there. So of course that's where we went. It's literally right down the road, but I would honestly keep going there even if it was several hours away. At one point, we visited the shop and I saw what was going on: it was really actually beautiful, the way they were doing stuff. You know when you see a clean shop where parts and tools are organized that it reflects the underlying attention to care and detail a shop really needs -- especially in this day and age when so much of what they deal with is electronic. Those sensors and chips require care in handling that stuck bolts and nuts don't. These guys were doing it right! As it happens, one of their mechanics is also a used-car buyer for customers, so we even had this fellow, Doug, see if he could find the used car I'd been searching for ineffectively for weeks. Man, did he ever come through for us! This shop is a class act all the way, and every mechanic we met there was first-rate. I've lived all over the country, 8 states from Texas to California and back in the last 30 years (I'm 64), and this is hands-down THE best shop I've found. And believe me, I work hard to find the best mechanic in every place I live. There have been a lot of good ones, too. But Green River Auto and Rich and Doug are the best. You cannot go wrong with them.
