Do I understand what they were going for when they designed the Streets of St. Charles. Yes, and in…read moretheory I liked the mixed uses design. There is a movie theater, tons of restaurants, office space, a hotel, and residential space. Do I actually enjoy it? No, this place is the 7th circle of hell for me. There is simply too much going on and the infrastructure for it isn't properly designed. The are only a couple in and out flows for the center, there aren't always stop signs so there are a lot of awkward driving situations, and then there just isn't enough parking. I always just end up going to the parking garage and going to the top level to save myself the hassle of hunting for spots. The good. There are a fair number of restaurants. If you want the buzz of an active area I get it. A lot of the restaurants are higher end, and this is a good area for people in their 40-60s. I just haven't had great experiences at any of the restaurants and the absolute pain of the ill designed center is a big negative. I don't live in St. Charles, so it isn't enough of a draw to make me want to drive west and visit this congested center. I'd take the congestion of downtown or Kirkwood Webster over this any day.

My favorite casual spot there is Mission Taco and for brunch try Prasino. Their Bloody Mary is well-liked. There is a lot of surface lot parking and a multi-level parking garage. For entertainment, check out the Funny Bone Comedy Club, AMC movie theater or the occasional street concert during warmer months. There are a few speciality shops interspersed in the complex, too.

Also, it's very spacious and a great way to get your steps in! I make it a goal to visit these shops every year on my birthday which happens to fall in December. Word to the wise: if you want to avoid crowds, it's best to go early and maybe even on a weekday. Most of the stores have really great prices and also some unique finds. However sometimes when the stores get super crowded and the checkout line is wrapped literally around the store, it becomes challenging to see the full scope of everything that is on display. Recently I went on a Saturday afternoon and walked out of two really popular stores simply because they were way too crowded and the long lines were a deterrent. Says a lot about the stores though. People saw some really great deals and were willing to go the distance for them. If you enjoy shopping and the great outdoors, this is the place for you. I am only giving 4 stars because there were a few outlet stores that I would've liked to had seen moved to this location after the Taubman Outlets closed, which wasn't too far away. Having those extra stores there would've really set this place off for me, as being one of the best local hot spots!

They still have a great selection of stores and I shop at about 3 frequently. They have a small food court and some pop up stands like snow cones, popcorn with lemonade and my favorite funnel cake. I never have a bad experience and they seem to have what I need at all stores.

Whether by car or Metrolink, it's literally a straight line out and back. Every time I'm here, it reminds me why this stretch has such a loyal following, because it's one of those places where you can land with no plan at all and still end up having a great time by just letting the street carry you along. The food scene here is the big draw, with a mix of global options that all seem to go together. From shawarma to ramen to tacos and yes, diner comfort food without breaking stride. The storefronts flip from quirky to arty and classic that keeps the walk interesting. Mini golf and bowling, too! Two unique things that make the Loop uniquely the Loop are the Planet Walk and the Saint Louis Walk of Fame. The Planet Walk is a scale model of the Solar System that stretches a half mile or so along Delmar mapping out the distances between the planets. And alongside this, the Walk of Fame runs along with stars honoring famous Saint Louisians (Saint Louisans?) set into the sidewalk. It's fun to spot names you know and names that are new to you. Chuck Berry. Maya Angelou. Tennessee Williams. Nelly. The Loop is named for the Loop Trolley. It launched in 2018, hit some operational and funding issues, and ended service in 2023. I'm bummed that I missed the opportunity to ride it. Maybe it returns one day? But even without the Trolley, the Loop is one long ribbon of activity. Accessible, diverse and consistently entertaining. It delivers exactly what you want from a neighborhood. [Review 440 of 2026 - 509 in Missouri - 25623 overall]

While it's still diverse, the eclectic atmosphere has faded since the early 2000s, and the Loop really needs more music venues. On a brighter note, there are great eateries and Vintage Vinyl is a must-visit for any music lover. It's a perfect spot to stroll and discover unique shops.
