I am leaving the office bc I had a growth in my right boob and I wanted a mammogram and sonogram three months after they found it. I have cancer in my family, my mom had breast cancer and one of my friends had breast cancer. He wouldn't give it to me until the head radiologist at Rosetta radiology spoke to him. I told him he was making a stressful situation even more stressful and he said verbatim that he could make it more stressful by not giving it to me so I would have to pay for it out of pocket. Who says that? Not a good Doctor, that is for sure! So I am leaving and now they are charging me $160 to get my medical records to my new Dr. Interesting. read more

The doctor himself needs to learn some bedside manners or at least manners. As a medical professional there are basic standards of care that should be done. He's rude, dismissive and quite possibility the most non caring, empathetic individual. His staff is more concerned with going to lunch on time and ending the day not a moment past their scheduled shift (which I understand because who wants work a minute over without pay?) but I point this out to show that the employees in this office are unhappy and misery loves company. If you enjoy your job and more so your employer- going a minute or two past your lunch time/end of day means about as much as the dirt on your shoe: meant to be there and overlooked. I will say I liked Dr. Gold when he was able to diagnose me with a rare condition that I had been misdiagnosed with many years ago. Though, that was my only reason for liking him. When my rare condition showed up yet again only 6 months later, knowing very well the pain associated with this, he brushed me off and offered no guidance, referral to specialist or even a simple explanation. He also never followed up to see how I was doing after my initial call. Only after I went to his office to obtain all my files was he then interested - he was also rude, uncaring, and condescending while I was still in severe pain. For this event alone, I will not be returning to his office and I urge everyone else to stay far away. I will also mention his terrible bedside manner... at my first appointment he couldn't simply say "scoot down to the end of the table", he gripped both my ass cheeks and pulled me to the end of the table... beyond disrespectful and disgusting. He also makes you come in for a FULL exam every 6 months if you want him to write you a birth control prescription...never heard of that in my life. I've known Dr Mark Gold for over 40 years. He delivered two of my three children, takes care of my daughter and delivered her two children. He is incredibly caring and brilliant diagnostician. I was recommended to Dr. Gold because my gyn left his practice, who I loved. I took the recommendation and I wasn't very impressed. I was going for my yearly check up which is covered by my insurance, but since he suggested that I might have yeast infection it was marked as an inquiry appointment and I had to pay the co-payment. Given, I told him I felt no symptoms of it. Even when I informed the receptionist about the co-payment, she said that the Dr. was sending out a sample so I had to pay the co-payment. I informed her again that my yearly appointments are covered and she said it wasn't being marked as an yearly check up because he thought I might have a UTI, which I didn't. Fine, wasn't going to argue. Given the office is clean, but the conduct wasn't as professional as I would like. Even during the examination he stated that it 'probably' wasn't necessary to have a pap smear and didn't go ahead with it. If I'm doing my yearly check-up I shouldn't have to state that I would like a pap smear done. Also he didn't offer a std test on top of the no pap smear. I also asked for a refill for my birth control and he only refilled it for 3 months. I thought it would have at least a year prescription due to yearly check ups and all the gyns I've had do the same. Makes me think he's trying to get extra co-payments out of me. Really upsetting, not worth it. read more

My previous doctor is no longer practicing in New York but he recommended that I go to Dr.Mark Gold. I'm not going to lie, after reading the reviews here I was worried because of some "not so good reviews". I'm glad I still went. His office is clean and the staff are so friendly. I didn't wait long and he made me feel comfortable. He is very professional and after seeing all the thank you cards and baby photos all over his office, it truly made me feel that he really care for his patients. Not only is this doctor rude and uninterested in treating women who are not pregnant, he is distinctly looking to get as much money out of them as possible. He gave me a pill prescription that was not related to the formula I requested, and when I went to go pick it up, i found out that it is $100 and NOT covered by any insurance out there! I dont have any issues with any pills, I told him that I am not picky. For a product with so many generics on the market and so many options that are covered by insurance, to prescribe something like this can only be a result of favorable treatment from the pill maker. In addition, he refuses to give out prescriptions for more than 6 months, forcing you to see him twice a year for regular check-ups. Nearly all insurance programs only cover one check-up a year. Shame on you, Dr. Gold, for mixing up your priorities. In addition, he told my friend who just turned 30 that if she wasnt getting pregnant in the next year or so, she should freeze her eggs. Wake up, Dr. Gold, you practice in New York. Many women have careers and aren't ready for kids before 30. read more

Awful. My previous doctor no longer practices, but transferred his patients and files to Dr. Gold. Over an hour wait, with no notification from staff or apology. I understand when doctors are delayed due to being in a hospital, but I would have just appreciated the staff mentioning that they were running late. Instead, I had no idea why I just wasn't being called. The office is papered with electrolysis and anti-cellulite ads, which seem kind of weird for an OB/GYN's office, and everything was much more geared towards pregnant women. Dr. Gold never looked at me once while taking my medical history. I was there to get a different birth control prescription, having had a healthy pap earlier in the year, but Dr. Gold insisted on doing a full exam with no real warning, as well as an unnecessary urine test. He also insists women on birth control come in for a full exam every 6 months. Waste of money, time, and ridiculous, as well as opposing the guidelines that state that healthy women need exam ever 2-3 YEARS. This made a simple prescription refill take much longer, and also was more traumatic. His bedside manner was awful, and I just kept feeling like I was in the way and unwelcome. Dr. Gold is amazing. He is direct and right to the point. I was told I needed a hysterectomy. I've been going to him for over 14 years. I had the surgery on December 6. 2013. He was there to check on me every single day as well as 2 other Dr.'s that are affiliated with him. I had the best care around the clock at Lenox Hill hospital. I've finally found my OB/GYN! Dr. Gold is a first rate, top notch doctor. From the moment I walked into the office I felt at ease. Dr. Gold took his time with me to get to know me and just to chat before my exam. He did the same after my exam as well. I was so impressed with her help, I wanted to somehow let them know how appreciative I am. I called looking for my VERY OLD medical records which was transferred to their office from my old doctor who is no longer in practice. She was so patient in trying to locate the records and was very kind throughout the whole conversation. I also went to see Dr Gold as a non pregnant patient and found him as a very terse unwelcoming figure. I wondered if my presence was annoying or angering him. Being a new client and from another country I found the examination rather traumatic as there was no explanation or warning as to what was about to happen. He nearly got a swift kick to the head. I love Dr. Gold (and Sharon at the front desk)! I went to him for 7 years while I lived in the city. He was very helpful for routine check-ups I did end up having a more complicated diagnosis later during the time that I saw him, and he sent me directly to a specialist when he felt outside of his comfort zone. I appreciated the honesty and wish more doctors would be this direct. He always called me with my test results in a timely manner and always got me into the schedule when I had an emergency. Dr Gold is very professional, knowledgable and attentive as well as his staff. The man is good at what he does. If your a person who likes to be coddled, he may not be for you. I was referred to Dr. Gold from my old GYN who closed his practice. If you're trying to get pregnant, or are pregnant, Gold might be for you - but if you're a young, sexually active woman who might have a lot of questions you should definitely find another doctor. I've been twice now because his practice only allows 6 months of birth control prescription - which, when I asked about why this was the case, I was met with grumbles about the "hormones" and it's "better this way." Yet, during my 2nd visit this year, he did not perform a proper pap smear. He also made a comment that my co-pay was "unusually high," and that that was "too bad" (It's $60). Most importantly, during both my visits I've brought up questions/concerns I had that he had zero helpful advice on - claiming that "we'll see what the tests say" (my concern was not a testable thing), and the other time, he just completely disregarded my question. Also, baby pictures stare at you while you're getting your pap - so there's that. Shout out to the nurses in his office though, they're all really sweet and nice. read more

The office is very clean, front desc and nurses are amazing, doctor is professional! Easy to make an appointment and almost no waiting time. Doctor always calls promptly when he has test results, which happens very rarely in other clinics. Dr. Gold is a first rate OB/GYN. I would highly recommend him to any woman. I had to change doctor's 30 weeks into my pregnancy and Dr. Gold took care of me as if I were under his care from day one. He put me at ease with the change of doctors the first time I had met with him. I had no doubts. During my delivery we encountered a rather scary situation and he delivered my daughter to me safe & sound. Not to mention he made sure I was taken care of at all times. Dr. Gold did my amnio. I was terrifed and nervous but he did an excellent job, it was fast and there no amnionic fluid leaking or discharge at all. I had read horror stories about how women had to be on bed rest for the remainder of their pregnancies after they've had an amnio because of leakage and the risk of miscarriage. Dr. Gold even came in during his lunch hour to do it for me because it was right before a holiday weekend and I wanted to do it sooner than later. Overall he has been on point regarding everything else pertaining to my pregnancy. Though I have not delivered yet, thus far I highly reccomend him. read more

Do not see this doctor if you have any self respect. He conducted my pre-exam interview in his office with the door wide open (not ajar, wide open) and was asking me personal, private questions about my medical and sexual history while patients and employees roamed the hall outside. Halfway through the interview, I stopped and closed the door and he responded by telling me that "there's not usually anyone back here". So I guess this is how he upholds doctor-patient confidentiality. My exam lasted about four minutes, of which three were a breast exam and the other minute was the most painful, violent pap smear I've ever received. He barely said a word to me the entire time, except for yanking the speculum out and shoving it in my face to show me what my vaginal fluid looked like. He insists on seeing his patients who are on birth control EVERY SIX MONTHS. I have been managing my own birth control for eleven years and have never had a doctor give me a prescription for anything less than 12 months. I was in tears by the end of the physical exam and am still bleeding a day later from his rough care. I left Dr. Gold's office feeling violated and angry. Do not, absolutely do not, give this doctor your co-pay, your money, or a minute of your time. You will regret it. read more

We searched online for a doctor since we didn't want to tip family and friends off that I was pregnant and found Dr. Gold on yelp! I found every appointment to be done in a timely manner and didn't spend more than a few minutes in the waiting room although other patients were also visiting the office (extremely awesome when you are pregnant). The staff were super sweet and effecient in handling the visits. We found Dr. Gold to be reserved (not in a negative way) and very knowledgeable and thorough. After spending months in his care, I felt we experienced his caring nature and saw what a kind hearted individual he was through our interactions. You can see why he is in this business. I delivered on Yom Kippur last year and he took such great care of me and my baby, checking in on me throughout the day until it was time for my delivery. I still tell the story of how I burst out in tears and thanked him for what he did for our family when he came to visit us the next day (so embarrased at the time but I'm so glad I expressed my genuine gratitude). I honestly believe that it is such a noble profession and one that you must genuinely love, to put up with a lot of what must come with it (e.g. Insurance, lawsuits, etc.). Our experience with Dr. Gold has been wonderful and I would highly recommend him to family and friends. read more

A good friend referred me to Dr. Gold when we lived in NYC. Eight years ago we moved to Zurich, Switzerland and I still fly back to NYC once a year for my annual check ups with Dr. Gold. So I guess I have known Dr. Gold for 15 years or more. This year Dr Gold uncovered a problem and I had a substantial operation. Thank goodness, Dr. Gold found the problem on an office visit. Dr. Gold is very professional, kind and knowledgable. I have read the other reviews and understand when they say he is terse - sometimes he is very focused and he can come across this way - but if you know him, you know he is a really good Dr and human being. He has always answered my questions and during the operation and recovery he was at the hospital everyday (even on Sunday) checking on me. He always calls immediately with test results so we do not worry. Sharon and staff are stellar and we always feel welcome and well cared for when we go to the office. I have no children and have still always felt Dr Gold is the best Dr for me. As for the wall of children's pictures, I love looking at them..what is more adorable than new born babies!!!! From my view, we have to stop looking at Drs. like super heroes and understand that they are human beings too. They also have bad days and yes, even make mistakes, like all of us. The best thing to do is build a relationship with your Dr so you have an open line of communication. And if he is terse, overlook it and he will do the same for you when you are having a rough day. read more
