Catheter bag did not open to allow urine to drain into it. Increasing pain forced me to send Dr. Nudell a message on El Camino Health's messaging platform at 4:45 PM on Friday afternoon. Got a personal call back from Dr. Nudell 15 minutes later. When I explained the potential complication, Dr. Nudell asked me to meet him at his office (now well after normal hours) to ensure that the bag was working properly. I told him it would take me another 35-40 minu4tes to get there with traffic. He told me not to worry and that he would wait for me. When I arrived, Dr. Nudell was all alone with no staff. My primary care physician Dr Hopner referred me to Dr Ngo after we discussed local Urologists. Dr Ngo and I met, discussed next step...MRI, that progressed to prostate needle biopsy, then robotic prostatectomy at El Camino hospital in Los Gatos. There are potential quality of life issues, lots of YouTube info and individual results vary...so my results are my results. I have had 100% bladder control since the catheter was removed on December 19, 2024. There are zero issues with any incontinence or ED side effects post surgery; an unexpected but pleasant outcome. Healing of incisions area is progressing, as is internal abdominal sensations. Pain from any coughing is now zero. No issues coughing, sneezing, standing or bending over. Since Dr. Mehta was accepting patients both as OB and urologist, I was thinking it makes sense to schedule an appointment with her. The receptionist agreed but requested a referral, even though I have PPO insurance. A few days later, I had to go to urgent care due to worsening kidney stone symptoms, and the ER physician sent a referral to Dr. Mehta as requested. However, when I called the Dr. Mehta office again, the same receptionist informed me that the office could not accept me because kidney stones are not within the doctor's specialty. This was so confusing! As this limitation was not mentioned during my initial call. My suggestion to this practice is to ensure reception staff provide clearer guidance about the doctor's scope of practice, so patients do not spend unnecessary time obtaining referrals and can instead seek care from another provider.
