I love coming to see Dr Kretz! I was here a few weeks ago because I was having issues with my crown. I was having issues because I had decided to go to Mexico to get work done. That didn't turn out so well. I decided to come back to Dr Kretz. They fixed my tooth, found a crack on my crown. They totally repaired it and now I am back to normal. The entire staff is so pleasant and welcoming. I love it here. This is my dental place of choice. I feel calm, relaxed and comfortable. Oh, i forgot to mention that I am horrified of going into the dentist. I guess I should say, I use to be horrified. I recommend this place to everyone, especially if your afraid of the dentist. If I was only rating the hygienist I would give this place 5 stars. I've been going to this office for about seven years and I've had good experiences with the hygienist, Adrian. Dr. Kretz, however, is a different story. I've only seen him twice: Once was because he replaced my bottom permanent retainer. That went okay. The second time was for a top retainer and it was a nightmare. He wasn't listening to me or paying attention to our visit. We finally decided I would get a passive retainer for my top teeth. However, when I arrived for my retainer fitting about one week later, he provided an active retainer to move a tooth that we never discussed. Furthermore, he had no recollection of our previous conversation and made no apology for the mistake. In an effort to be congenial, I offered to try the retainer since it was already made. He stated that he would do some research into a question I had and call me later that day to discuss. At which time he said he would schedule a follow-up visit to see how I wanted to proceed and then I could pay for whichever retainer I decided on. That would have been okay except for the fact that he never called. And then I received an ambiguous bill, not knowing which type of retainer I was billed for. Not wanting to waste any more time, I just paid it as-is. But then I received another bill with the exact same itemizations, but somehow $5 more. What? His breath smells like coffee and his hygiene is poor. He was talking to everyone in the office about how he had a cold and then he touched my retainer with his bare hands so I could put it into my mouth for a fitting. I told him I needed to wash the retainer first and why. He tried to excuse it by telling me he was just at the "tail-end" of his cold. Gross. As if that wasn't enough, I've often heard staff gossiping behind the front counter while waiting for my visits, which I find unprofessional. Overall, I would look for another place. read more

Had my first visit today. Everyone including the doctor was knowledgeable, attentive, personable, kind and appeared to considered my well being and comfort of utmost importance. My only issue was the assistant Sara was too funny for words and I was afraid I'd accidentally bite the doctor laughing while he had his hands in my mouth, lol. Amazing front desk, assistants, hygienist and Doctor .Dr.Kretz goes above and beyond for his patients and he makes you feel comfortable. You can tell they work as a team and get along very well. Everything gets explained from what treatment you need and why to the Financial part of it .I moved to New York and if I ever need anything major the thought of paying for a flight to go to Dr.Kretz is there. Dr. Kretz has a wonderful practice. This is from a person who has extreme anxiety/fear of the dentist. I expressed to Michelle my fear, and she assured me Dr. Kretz works well with patients who have Dentophobia. Boy was she right!! Dr. Kretz and the Dental Hygientist, Pam, were very gentle and explained everything step by step. I have NEVER felt more comfortable in the dentist chair. I am finally on road to getting much needed dental work done that is several years overdue. His prices are ROCK bottom(IMO.) I also brought the children for their annual/semi cleaning. Called around to a number of dentists looking to have someone fix a chipped tooth that I had. Dr. Kretz's office was able to get me in for an appointment within a few days of my phone call, even as a new patient. I have had a number of chipped teeth in my life and dread these appointments. Between the x-rays, poking at the broken tooth, the hours of opening my moth they really just suck. Dr. Kretz's team got me right in and started working immediately with almost zero wait time. My husband goes to this place for about 14 years. The day before my appointment he called the office to ask how much my visit would cost, so I could take the right amount of cash to pay. Things went well with my appointment, I paid the bill in cash and left with a paper with the services I have to get done. Last week we got a bill with the same amount I paid. My husband called them and was informed I didn't pay for my visit... I just called them this morning and talked to Michelle. She was the person how took the money from me. She said she didn't get any payments and asked for a receipt, but she didn't give me one. I thought she put it with the other papers, but I was in a hurry for work and didn't notice I left without it. I told her to look on their cameras because they will see me taking the money out of my purse, but they don't have one. I also work with clients and every time we make a mistake, we figure things out. We do not blame our clients for that and ask them to pay again. What I heard back is that THEY DON'T MAKE MISTAKES, so basicly sounds like I am the one who did. I am sure I paid the bill and I am extremilly disappointed with this attitude. I would never leave without paying for my services or ask them to charge me later if I took the money to pay. If you see Michelle at the front desk, make sure you get your receipt. Because the person who never makes a mistake may charge you for your services twice. Horrible custumer service! Guess what???! You just lost 2 clients, my husband also won't go there anymore. I started going to Dr. Kretz about two years ago because he accepts my very basic Anthem individual insurance. So far it's mostly been cleanings, and I've been impressed and appreciative that the same hygienist, Adrian, has worked with me every time (hygienists seemed to change a lot at my previous dentist). Kretz's office bilsl insurance directly and are always careful to follow the timing rules so I am not out of pocket. I like that they store x-rays and pocket readings on computer. The waiting room is pleasant and contemporary. Heads up, for unknown reasons, Yelp is hiding 2 out of 3 reviews for Dr. Kretz, both positive and negative. Being new to the area and selecting Dr. Kretz based on wonderful online reviews, I have to say today's visit for a new crown had to be the most painless and the quickest I have experienced! My mouth is not sore at all! The staff are very friendly as well and knowledgeable as far as insurance, etc. As far as the prior poor staff review, they obviously dealt with that issue, if there ever was one. I haven't actually been to this office, And he can thank "Michelle", the girl I spoke with on the phone for that. After I schedule appointments for my husband and myself, she calls me back and says I don't have dental insurance (I work for Scripps Health, I'm fully covered for everything with insurance probably better than hers). So I call my insurance company thinking perhaps I gave some wrong information. I'm okay with correcting myself. Insurance tells me there is no documentation of anyone calling for any sort of verification, And to just have whoever needed it to call her. So I call back, And Michelle proceeds to tell me "no. I called, there was nothing." not even offering to try again. All the while oozing with attitude. So I ask her if she can call again, And she responds with "I can, BUT...." And at that point I just dropped it I had my appointments canceled because it shouldn't be so difficult to make a phone call and just TRY. IT'S YOUR JOB, DO IT. But with that much attitude on the phone, why would I want to go see your face? If you don't mind secretaries with a flipped on b**ch switch, call this place. read more

Dr. Kretz is a dentist who generally cares about his patients. I have been with him for over three years working through a persistent bone infection in my mouth. I have had to come in without notice at least twenty times over the last three years, and every time I was seen and taken care of. Dr. Kretz has always showed and interest in my personal care and has always worked to make me feel comfortable. He and his staff are friendly and genuinely want to help you, whether that means dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, or a regular check up. I have an issue with dentists. I start shaking the minute I walk into the office. I "interviewed" several dentists via their staff on the phone before choosing a dentist. Dr Kretz has a wonderful staff and Michelle after spending about 20 minutes talking to me, convinced me that he is fantastic with fearful patients. She was very right. He is a wonderful caring Dentist that explains everything as he goes. He also has the option of being semi sedated which worked great for me! This is a solo practice which gives you the benefit of one dentist. I had my teeth cleaned by Adrian who was just as caring. I would recommend this office to anyone, espically those that need a little more attention to their fears. read more

I have many problems with my teeth dating to my youth. He has fixed so many issues from past dentists & bad genetics, he NEVER tries to up-sale me on anything, he is only interested in keeping my existing teeth free from infection, he fixes all my problems, and is extremely sensitive, patient and professional. I have been going to see Dr. Kretz and his staff for 12+ years. I, like many people, get a bit anxious when it come to having my teeth worked on. The past two years I have had to get a few crowns and treatment for a bad abscess. The staff was great and Dr. Kretz was very kind and understanding. He takes the time to answer my questions and explain things before they are done. They are great about scheduling and getting me in when its more urgent. Everyone in the office is kind and very friendly. Most recently Dr. Kretz offered me an alternative to do some cosmetic repairs on my teeth that turned out great and saved me from having to expensive Invisalign. This review is not for Dr. Kretz, but for his office overall. If you can get through the nightmare of dealing with his staff, he does a good job. His office is a little outdated, but his rates are reasonable. I also was not happy that he throws hydrocodone at you for pain. Ibuprofen 800 would do the job. I have been debating of switching to another dentist for about a year because I could not longer deal with his receptionist Michelle who is rude to clients if you don't do things her way. I spent thousands of dollars there over three years. Last time I called to get dental cleaning at 4pm on a Monday. Michelle could only schedule me for 7am next morning and could not do anything else for me, because someone just cancelled. There was NEVER a mention of a broken fee for a missed appointment. If anything, they were not going to have anyone there anyways. Over night I became very ill with bronchial asthma and could barely breath. My husband came in for another procedure at the same time and had more expensive dental work done. He told the office I could not make it. Next thing I knew, I was getting a birthday card along with a $30 broken hygiene appointment fee. What a slap in the face!!! Michelle NEVER put me on notice of any fees. Best part was when I called in and another girl Nicole told me that yes, they were wrong for not putting me on notice, but they will continue billing me. This office should really review Restatement 2nd of Torts before they bill their clients as they are in violation of it! To conclude, if you can deal with Michelle, you can go see Kretz. If only Kretz knew how much business she is costing him! I referred a few friends over there, and they all told me that she could not get them in, and ended up seeing someone else. I am switching over myself. I am pretty excited about my new dentist in La Jolla. So far his staff is super nice, unlike this office. read more
