Mario came out to provide an estimate to repair and repaint our deck. Later that day, we had an issue with our painter who was supposed to patch a small piece on our ceiling but wasn't able to do so. Mario again came out to give us a second estimate later in the day for the ceiling - talk about fantastic customer service! We knew after that we had to hire him and his crew, and we're so glad we did! The team was efficient, great at their craft and fun to work with. If you've ever worked with a bad contractor, you know how much you really appreciate a good contractor. Well, Mario is a GREAT contractor. We hired him to paint our condo and to install a new countertop and tile backsplash for our kitchen. We were thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail and going out of their way to ensure we were happy with the work they did. Not happy at all. He quoted me a price to paint ceilings and walls in my house. Since I didn't move in yet I thought it was fine to leave him and his worker alone. I got ripped off. Mario is so professional and I can't wait to use him for my next project. He is responsive to texts, calls, and email and calls when he says he will. He was prompt for our appointment and even told me the exact time his GPS said he would arrive. He was friendly and very knowledgeable. He gave me a few quotes off the top of his head, and they were all VERY reasonable. The best part is that the quotes he said off the top of his head were the same numbers that showed up on his formal written proposal, so I really appreciate his consistency and honesty. He took notes during our meeting, which made me feel relieved that he wasn't going to miss anything later or forget. He told me he would email me a quote the next day, and sure enough he did! I have worked with other painters that "start high" with their quotes and you have to negotiate them down, but Mario's first quote was extremely reasonable and affordable so I felt like he gave me his best quote first so negotiating wasn't really necessary. Everything had a price associated with it, broken down in a very clear legible way. Materials are extra, but he said he provides receipts so you can confirm the amounts. Just so professional, way more professional than any other painters I have met with or received quotes from. He even said he will match or beat the quote of any reputable painter. I can tell that he really stands behind the quality of his work, and will prove himself to you. He wants to earn your business. I told all my friends and family about him now. Mario of Mario's Painting and Decorating is the consummate professional. I called him after a referral from a friend to get some odds and ends done in my apartment/roof deck and I couldn't be happier with the service I received. The first and best thing about Mario is his professionalism on every level. He's extremely friendly and (even more importantly) extremely easy to get a hold of. During the month or so from my initial call to him, till the moment all the work was done I must have called him over 20 times. I'd estimate that roughly 16 of those times he answered, 3 of them he called back within an hour or two and once first thing the next day (and THAT time I called him on a Sunday). Heck, the first time I called him was at 5pm on EASTER SUNDAY and he answered cheerfully and willing to talk. I cannot overemphasize how important ease of connectivity is when having work done on your house OR how refreshing Mario's professionalism is (I went through the estimate process with a few other contractors before Mario and abandoned plans with all of them because I simply couldn't trust their commitment to the job). Another facet of his professionalism that led to my satisfaction with Mario's work was his dedication to getting the job right. During the entire process, Mario seemed to care about getting everything right as much as me. When staining my deck, his guys noticed some rotted boards and some that were leaking sap. He replaced them at cost. When in the middle of mounting some speakers for me, his carpenter thought of a better way to do it. He immediately called me talked about how they could do it better, why it would be better, and said that he'd again only charge me the material cost difference (a claim that panned out when I settled the final bill). The above example highlights another great trait Mario possesses and practices. He is an extremely knowledgeable craftsman, especially on the subject of painting, tile, marble and granite. When I told him about all the things I wanted done he gave me suggestions and solutions but wasn't afraid to defer to more expert advice if something was even a bit outside his wheelhouse. I personally find the ability to admit you "don't know" to be an extremely important quality and would much rather he call one of his many expert contacts than attempt to do a job he's not 100% comfortable with, just to save a few bucks for himself. All in all, I trusted Mario, by extension Mario's Painting and Decorating, and his network of workers to complete my job efficiently, effectively and within my financial restraints. I'm not as prolific a Yelper as I'd like to be, I pretty much only write a review when I'm extremely unhappy or extremely pleased with a specific service provider. After calling many painters without a call back from most of them, Mario picked up the phone in three rings. He was on a job so he called me back prompty and came to my home the same evening and quoated me a fair price for the job. These guys are professionals, prompt, and punctual. They painted the entire home in around 9 days. I was extremely satisfied with their work. They cleaned and vacuumed throughout the day. They did not damage anything. I would like to give a minus star If I could but this is not an available option in yelp. Two doors down from my house, we noticed Mario's yard sign. So, we called to get an estimate. He seemed friendly and professional on the phone and stopped by to give us an estimate. I told him we had already painted most of the exterior trim and we needed a partial work done. At First, he came down a couple of hundred dollars from his original estimate and asked for cash payment. Later, I stopped by my neighbors' home to see the progress they are making. I noticed two people working and the progress seemed a bit slow. I would rather have them take their time and do a good job than rush it anyway. So, this in itself isn't a problem but it does make a difference when negotiating the price. I also noticed that they are NOT using the stain/paint generously meaning a very thin coat of paint is applied. So, we told him about this also. He said, they take off the downspouts during the paint job but when I checked their work, I noticed they were not taking off the downspouts, just working around them. I did not want them to take them off anyway because of concerns that they may not reattach them correctly and then I would have a bigger problem later. When I mentioned these things and told him, I believe he got really pissed and did not want to do the job. He was also not giving us any break on the price even though we completed more than 60% of trim painting job. Essentially charging the customer the same price regardless of the amount of work they have to do. This is not right! In his phone messages, he said that he does not work for peanuts, blah blah blah... Who does he think he is? An attorney? A Doctor? His hourly rate when calculated would have been something like $200 an hour. Really, what is wrong with the painters? We have capitalism in this country. You can ask for whatever you want but that does not guarantee you will get it... There is a certain nationwide statistic and data on what an average painter makes per hour and what a the top 10% painter makes per hour. It can be easily found online if you search for it. I don't appreciate contractors/painters taking advantage of senior citizens in this way. SHAME ON THEM! read more

Not only is Mario a perfectionist about his work, but in our case he accommodated us with very short notice. We had hired another painter but on the morning he was to begin we got a call that he had to go to the hospital with an injury. We had cleared all the rooms to be painted so we wanted to find someone who could start right away. Mario was able to do that and the very next day he and two others were hard at work. They painted our master bedroom and bath, hallway and loft with a closet and our basement stairwell in 3 days. We really appreciated his responsiveness and attention to detail.
