BE AWARE. This review is based on my personal experience as of August 2021. It is my opinion that…read moreis a religiously-based. money-seeking organization. IF TM is a valid practice, the "Director" Pratima, of the Scottsdale location provided extremely poor representation of this company. She claims to be a practitioner of sorts, yet demonstrated lack of professionalism and cultural sensitivity toward my own culture and beliefs. She also minimized my loss-related grief and felt entitled to call me "selfish" for verbally expressing my current emotional pain. TM is supposedly a meditation practice that has been "proven" to help destress, yet it seemed to have impaired her dealings with me. I call that HYPOCRACY. She was impatient and belittling toward me in front of a peer. She made provisions for my peer and allowed her to "make-up" a class via Zoom when she was absent. Pratima obligated me to come in-person for the class and I was not allowed the same courtesy although I had advised her that I was in incredible emotional and physical pain. I call that FAVORITISM. I was also obligated to view videos of the founder "Maharishi Mahesh Yogi." With the limited information I received about this individual, my perception quickly became that he was their religious leader. When I expressed any difference of opinion from hers, I was met with aggressive communication and was insulted. I was asked to shell out a significant amount of money to learn "the basics." They provided minimal information, pretty, colorful Power Point Presentations full of hearsay. When I asked to learn more scientific information the Director advised me their famous "advanced techniques" would be an additional cost (of course). They did not advise me of this upfront. After FOUR sessions, I felt I had been swept into some kind of money scheme. When requesting a refund (after FOUR SESSIONS), Pratima advised me that I did "not qualify" for one. I believe that such "practitioners" should practice what they preach. I don't feel this individual did, based on her horrible treatment of me. Never again. Learned my lesson. I don't recommend at all. RUN.

Highly recommend, TM has changed my life. There is no way I would be able to function in my high…read morestress job without the TM technique. Also, Andrew is one of the best teachers. Ask for Andrew if you get the option when you come in to learn the technique.

Yea, I'm excited I have another FTR but pretty stoked it's for this 3rd Black Swan Yoga studio…read morethat's going to officially open on Sun, 9/21! I belong to BSY and have been going to the Midtown and Paradise Valley locations for the last year. A lot of the reason as to why I belong to BSY is because of Kjoy Lipson. I have never met a yoga instructor like her in the 2+ decades I have practiced yoga. She is the true embodiment of what yoga is all about. Take one of her classes and you'll know what I mean. I have been kicking the can down the road for awhile regarding yoga teacher training and have toyed with the idea for that last 10 years, on and off again about truly signing up for a class. But, with Kjoy, the calling came and so this past weekend, I have started my YTT journey with her and 11 other beautiful swans. Our Saturday class was here at the Old Town Scottsdale location and this is probably my favorite studio. All the BSY studios have a similar feel with painted black walls, the swan logo, and this one has a mural with two snakes on it and it's just badass gorgeous and a beautiful studio. There are mirrors here and very important in yoga to check alignment and the floors are grippy and cushion, perfect for the studio and easy to clean with a mop. Three bathrooms here, lots of cubby holes to store shoes and belongs and a nice bench too to sit on or for belongings. There are soft opening events this week on Wed and Thu evenings and definitely come to the grand opening on Sun, 9/21, it's gonna be great with food, giveaways, special studio deals, yoga community and classes! Definitely come check out this studio and come practice! Yoga changed my life, and it might just change yours too. And, it's in a great convenient location too!

I have a few friends that are teachers (or becoming teachers), connected to the studio and tell me all the time I should come, but I have other places where I regularly practice so it just didn't happen. But the universe conspired to bring me to this event where I was able to take a free community class with my friends for the grand opening of their Scottsdale yoga studio. The teachers and vibe here are top level and I appreciate their passion for this practice. Black Swan Yoga started in Texas and has locations in Arizona and Colorado and appears to have what I feel is an amazing vibe-- it's a "let your freak flag fly" mentality and I fully appreciate that. All are welcome and that's awesome. I think I'll all be practicing more often here and it's close by to where I do workouts at Orangetheory few doors down. This is a great shopping center with bad Jimmy's, Orange theory, Merci Café, hand and Stone massage, Cosmoprof, and they're putting in a Whole Foods here. t The main thing that may end up being a detrimental factor at some point is the busyness of the parking lot once Whole Foods is built out, but for now it's fine. It's doable and I'm excited to have this studio so close to my place. Namasté y'all

Long time questioner/lurker, first time writing about this…read more Sam was so kind enough to drop off the CDs in person at my place of work due to time constraints which was a VERY nice treat given his dedication (after knowing about his center for as long as I lived in the Phoenix area). I needed to supplement my healing journey and clear away mostly (ideally all) of the old untouched mental, emotional and psychological crap out of my head, too old to miss out on enjoying life while that's stuck in there, I took a risk. Also I'm close to the end of the 90 day period of hearing the CDs for the first time, though very skeptical, though it's normal to feel that way given the way of the world and one's personal experiences, because I was. The things he said made sense. Aside from the religious content and the message of 'suffering to gain strength' not being my thing, strong emotions really kicked up every time I cycled through the CDs. I had discovered a few nice things and some disconcerting things about myself in about a month; kept listening and my dark mood lifted. I felt more cheerier, but still in reality not taking crap from nonsense, though. A few modest and fun opportunities did present itself so I'm now able to earn extra cash. Depending on duration and intensity one has experienced from personal difficulties, trauma, abuses, hardships and the like that occur over decades, healing takes time; it is unrealistic to think it's instant or not being honest with oneself on what occurred in one's life. If one takes the time to research and understand how the mind /brain works and how it needs time to heal from stressors and buried memories and other psychological damage, one will have a better outcome, I have my own research to thank months prior to signing up for this program. To allow an overly critical ego, unrealistic expectations for an overnight process of healing in this medium thwarts encouragement and possibly progress. Everyone's stresses, stressors and levels of damage to the mind and body are different, give it a chance to work through the crap, don't put a timestamp on that. If anyone reading still have those CDs, take 'em out and hear it again with a fresh set of ears, thank the overly critical ego for its input and have it sit in the corner and be quiet. I recommend the Blackboard Effect and the Movie Screen, quite helpful.

I had high expectations after reading the other reviews but sad to say that Yoga Lamar didn't meet them. While I should have known that this wouldn't be an authentic yoga experience because it is located inside the salon, I was still disappointed. The yoga studio is located inside Spa Lamar, next to the hair stylist area. The doors to the yoga room are thin so you can hear the hair stylists and their clients throughout your yoga class. This is distracting and doesn't make for a very "zen" experience. The room itself is clean and bright. The room isn't very big but thankfully the classes I went to were small. It would be uncomfortable to have more than 10 or 15 people in there at one time. The AC was broken during one of the classes I attended, so we were really sweaty about halfway through the class. Someone asked the instructor to turn on the AC, but it was broken, so we opened the doors to the room. It felt much better temperature-wise, but the noise level from the salon increased, making it harder to meditate. Being that this is a Scottsdale yoga studio, the other students were mainly older, stay-at-home housewives. The women didn't give off friendly vibes, so I felt out of place not knowing anyone else. The atmosphere felt a little gossipy and cliquey, which is an unfortunate vibe for a yoga studio. On more than one occasion, some students in the class were chatty throughout the practice, making meditation difficult. One comment I heard during class was, "My butt will look so good after this position! I am so fat." UGH. I like yoga studios where students don't speak throughout class, unless they need help from the instructor. This is not a gym hour with your girlfriends; it's a meditative yoga class. The instructor for one of my classes was wearing a very thin, white tank-top without anything underneath. Needless to say, some of her body parts were poppin' out of the tank-top - very unprofessional and distracting during the class. While I'm not asking for 100% modesty, at a minimum you should have your nips covered! I was not happy about that and felt uncomfortable during the class. I made it a point to avoid her classes after that experience with her. I am disappointed to report that I haven't received any contact from the studio after my month-long membership ended. I didn't feel like a valued client when I was there, and I still don't feel valued as there has been no follow-up communication. Why not call me and see how my experience was, and try to get me back in on a regular membership? Don't you want your Yelp-deal clients to become regular clients?
