Stylists are great but the front desk girl, Lily is rude and condescending. I've witnessed her berating coworkers in front of customers.;She is rude and brash. I heard her telling a young girl that just stated, that she was slow and dumb. I was so uncomfortable and told the new girl she was doing a great job. Lily rolled her eyes. I've been a customer for years and because oh Lily, I have found another salon to go to that treats their staff with kindness and respect. read more

I visited this salon 2-3 times for a haircut, hoping for a stylist who could deliver a cutting-edge look for my short, fine hair. Unfortunately, the cuts were just a trim of my existing style and marginal--nothing special or tailored to my style, and at $85+, they felt overpriced. My biggest issue, though, was their handling of a missed appointment. I woke up feeling unwell, and right before my appointment, I was hit hard with sudden period symptoms--severe cramps, the sweats, nausea, and diarrhea. I was barely able to function when the receptionist called. Before I could explain and ask if I could be a little late (living less than 5 minutes away), she curtly informed me I was missing my appointment and was no longer welcome back. The lack of empathy was shocking and unprofessional. I understand no-show policies, but a little compassion would've gone a long way. I won't be returning and can't recommend this place based on my experience. read more

This salon used to be the go-to place in Metro Detroit but sadly has gone down hill. There is a lack of professionalism now. They recently cancelled my scheduled appointment the morning of the appointment and would not reschedule me for a different time that day. The front desk was unapologetic and did nothing to mitigate the situation. Prior haircuts this year were fine, but stylist lacked creative input and direction. read more

What This is most unfriendliest & nastiest location to use for as salon or anything else due to extremely overpriced and unprofessional workers I ho runs for thie only salon for more than thirty years! Once when I tried to make an appointment with them for hair coloring long ,long time ago, they lied to me over phone back in 2004 forever an appointment; the front desk rude person told me "sorry we don't have your name on our calendar then hanged up so quick!" The final straw, I moved on and went to different salon it turned out much better and more professional brought up more positive experience than here! It's worthless to come here for anything to make an appointment if you wanted to get great hair coloring or other treatment I would go to somewhere else with more courtesy customer service by professional if I am in this area nor in town.... read more

After three long months of being closed due to Covid, Mario Max is open! Got color and a cut from Minda and it feels and looks amazing. First of all, when I came in to the salon, I was greeted by a very rude receptionist who meanly asked "ugh, with who?" when I approached her to tell her I had an appointment. Secondly, I scheduled an appointment for highlights and a haircut over a WEEK ago, and when I came in my stylist told me he only had time for a cut and not my color. I'm in dental school and had to take a day off school to get my hair done and was not able to!!! This is extremely unprofessional. Not only was I not able to get my color done, during my haircut, my hair stylist left for over 40 minutes to do another woman's hair. I just sat there with wet hair and waited. It practically dried!!! The hair cut was FINE, but nothing special. I will never be coming here again and I would not recommend to my friends. Usually, salons care about their new customers. This one was quite the opposite. read more

This is a salon you can go with confidence that your hair will not fry off. I do think the stylists here are prepared to cut and color almost anyone. However, the styling aspect is dated (the finished look). This is definitely an older person's salon - it seems to be lacking freshness in the styling and product department. I would like to see higher end looks and products come out of this place. The prices are great compared to Birmingham, and the staff is more than qualified. I personally just wish it had a little bit more edge in creating looks I would wear, but I'm not into curls and updos. I also wish the place had a fresh coat of paint. I would check it out if your looking for a new salon. I recommend the owners if you want to try new color. read more

Okay I've lived in WB my entire life (30+ years) and I cannot believe that I've never been here until this year. With that said, Brie is fantastic. The first time I went I got a haircut and it was lovely. The second time I had a hair emergency and had some hack- dye job/balayage gone wrong and Brie was able to dye it back to my natural color and I look and feel like my normal self again. Hair is such a big part of a woman's personality and I'm glad that she fixed it to basically exactly my old color. Thank you!! read more

This is a swanky salon that's a very busy beehive with a bevy of stylists and nonstop customers; it's kind of nice to see that the Michigan recession hasn't touched this spot one bit, and it's also nice to see a business where you can lapse momentarily into thinking that at least one place in the state hasn't crashed and burned while the water is running down the sides of your head and two assistants are talking about hair color overtop of you! I had Jennifer T. as a stylist, and she is awesome. I went in for a quite a few procedures--and they did them all as fast as they could, working efficiently, with an overseer who would come by and check out my color to make sure it was doing what she and Jennifer thought it should (just like in the shows on TV!). I'd give the place a 5-star rating, but it's super, super pricey (my bill was near $200), which may or may not be reasonable depending on what I had done (I don't go often enough to salons to accurately gauge, but I know I got sticker shock when I got the bill). I've had expensive haircuts in the past, and you get what you pay for, so it just depends on how much you want to spend, but, regardless, Mariomax is a fun and lively place. I'd go there a lot more often if I won the lottery! read more

I have been going to Ponce for over seven years. He is the best! I love the cut and color. I am always very happy when I leave the salon.....He is really great with color and I have never been happier. He is always professional and keeps his appointments moving along so you are never just sitting around. The salon is clean and inviting. Everyone always makes you feel welcome from the minute you walk in the door until you leave. You will not be disappointed! If Ponce is booked , Vera is also fabulous too. I went to mario max regularly as a teen. Twenty years later and I came back to fix a terrible highlighting job and get my hair styled for my brothers wedding, and it was better than I remembered. Maria did an awesome job fixing my hair after a suburban chicago salon (which I won't name as I am currently waiting for them to refund my money) completely f 'd up leaving my hair white blonde and me screwed for my brothers wedding two days later. I went to mario max unsure if they could help, and Maria was up for the challenge. She squeezed me in last minute and quickly figured out what to do to get closer to my natural color. She did a great job, and I highly recommend her. The next day, I returned for Danielle to style my hair for the big day. She did exactly what I wanted (loose waves) and it looked better than I expected -- better than salons in NYC and boston where I previously sought the same hairstyle to my disappointment. I received so many compliments about my hair all night and still do thanks to Facebook. Danielle also did my mom's hair, and it looked amazing. Thank you Maria and Danielle. If I ever have another event in Michigan, I now have a place to go. Unfortunately I still need to find someone in chicago north shore. read more

Saw my stylist Courtney once again to get highlights/lowlights. She always does an amazing job. Just the right blend of the lights with my own gray to keep my hair very natural looking yet up to date. And the salon looks great after some recent renovations! Keep up the good work. read more
