The name of the restaurant was in sideways vertical lettering on the building face. Making my way in the entrance, a host greeted me and took me to an open table. The dinner rush at that time was small, and I looked over the menu. I went with fried haddock, hand-cut baked/fried chips, small white orbs of pickled onions, and tartar sauce. For my beverage I went with water with lemon in it. Prices were excellent (for example the pickled onions were less than one pound) and the servings were very large, I was happy I was hungry. The fish was perfectly flaky and fried to a golden perfection. The tartar sauce was thick and flavorful and the fries not too crispy nor soggy. They were especially good dipped in the tartar sauce. The restrooms were marked by gender - male and female. I felt more at home with those terms than I did the terms man and woman used back in the United States of America. Found it as a form of confidence builder as a female solo traveler that night. It was still light out when I left and I felt safe walking back out through the alley and to my hotel.

It seems that the traditional chip shop is dying out and being replaced with these four in one places where you can buy a kebab pizza curry and your fish and chips under the one roof, sadly you won't get that in this one. Notes. This chip shop has been In the same family since the late 1930's serving traditional fish and chips to sit in or to take out. The restaurant area does not look as if it has been changed since the 1960's and looks rough around the edges, even though this restaurant has been in the same family all these years most of the staff are new and and when l asked a question they would have to ask another member of staff the answer as they had only been here a week or so. Food I ordered the fish and chips special this came with bread and butter & a cup of tea not that I'm a tea drinker. The food was fine and you could tell it was fresh fish that was served in a batter, for £5.95 l wasn't expecting much but it wasn't too bad. Batter wasn't as crispy as l would have liked it to have been and the fish was rather bland. If l was to chose between here and jack McPhee's l would chose jack's all day for crisp batter, large chunky fish and plenty of chips even though it costs more. This is a good chip shop but sorry I've tasted better.

We came in and ordered a fish supper and a single sausage, but had to wait for fresh fish to be cooked. Result! I'd rather wait to ensure it's all nice and fresh. I noticed a wee shelf above the till selling essentials such as coffee, sugar paracetamol etc, which is a brilliant idea. There is also the usual array of crisps, sweets and cans. The staff were all slightly neddy, but nice enough. Not exactly smiling or anything, but we got pleases and thank yous, which is enough for me. The girl serving looked like she had been severely Tangoed. She maybe spends too much time at the tanning salon across the road.

I'm in Dennistoun quite a lot and there are lots of takeaways on Duke Street. I love fish and chips…read moreover and above most things in life though, and so a good Italian sounding Fish and Chip shop is top of my priorities. Claudio's is far from the best chippy in the world, but it's got a good menu with kiddie meals and a well stocked fridge with lots of different kinds of juice. The chips aren't so spectacular, but the portions are pretty good. Fish suppers are dear these days, and they offer a small and large fish supper which is ideal. It's either one or two slices and you can see in the hot plate how much you're up for. The pizzas LOOK good, I have never tried them. Even with good intentions of getting something different, I always get a fish supper. It's a nice enough wee chippy, clean and tidy. It can get a bit intimate at peak times as it is pretty tight in there. You can top up on coffee and other essentials too, but Duke Street has plenty of shops with products like that on offer. The reason you go to Claudio's is for good old fashioned no nonsense Chip Shop food with hefty portions of salt and vinegar. Yum.

You place your order at the counter and food is brought to your table. There is limited seating but we got one of the few tables available. Seating was tight as one of the workers had to squeeze behind one of my friend's chair to get out from behind the counter. My fish and chips meal was excellent and a large portion. You pay extra for condiments like ketchup but vinegar is included if that is your preference. Someone suggested we tried their deep-fried Mars bar but we couldn't even finish our fish and chips so had to pass. It looked delicious though.

It would still be good, but it would be incomplete. This establishment is in the heart of the Merchant City neighborhood of Glasgow. It is found at the corner of High St. and Ingram St. They offer some great options. Fish and Chips and other seafood delights are the staple offerings but there are also other local favorites like Haggis, Scotch Pie, Sausage and Black Pudding. Add to those some more adventurous things like Fried Pizza as well as BBQ Ribs and Burgers, and there is something for most everyone. There is even a Halloumi Burger for non-carnivores. On the more unusual heart-attacky side, for dessert there is a Fried Mars Bar. A Strawberry Tart dessert is offered for those who want a more normal life expectancy. We visited this place on a Sunday night around 8 PM. It was an easy walk from our hotel. They were still doing a brisk business even an hour before closing. The atmosphere is cozy with three or four inside tables and an approximately equal number of little outdoor patio tables for those who prefer to be outside. The format is walk-up-and-order. The staff are quite efficient and pleasant enough to deal with. The food comes out quickly. We tried the 1-pc. Fish and Chips Haddock Supper along with the 1-pc. Cod. There were enough chips that we could split them. It's fair to say that we thoroughly enjoyed these classics. The rest of the good news is that the price tag for these was £23 all in. At £11.50 per person, this is a very good value for a simple, filling, classic meal. We would try this place again if we make it to Glasgow.
