Good selection of fish but most are in late stages of marine ich, and many dead and unhealthy fish in the tanks. Younger staff totally uninformed and not knowledgable. If you try to warranty a fish, their poor testing regiment will show the water parameters are the problem and will not make good on their warranty. I will not give this store my business ever again. Fish survival has been 50% at best and requires 6-8 weeks of treatment before they could safely be moved into an established aquarium read more

Very nice selection of fish....probably the most in St. Louis. Unfortunately, you need to know the animals yourself as the staff is not smart at all. They probably know the least of any of the fish store employees in St. Louis. When I was there, they told another customer that they could put an angelfish in a reef tank. Sure can but then all of your corals will be eaten. For some reason, they don't want your money. I wanted a custom tank installed and I asked for a bid. After two weeks no one called and I had to call them again. They promised to call back and I waited for another couple weeks. I never got a call. I contacted another store and they were already installing my tank within a week. read more

Marine Solutions is a quality establishment. I have seen some reviews saying the fish are in bad shape and the prices are high. For starters Damon (the guy who runs the show) is extremely knowledgeable about the industry, and many other things at that. The prices may be a little bit higher than on line but what do you expect, he has to run a business with an overhead, and if you need something you can just run over there and get it in most cases, as anyone who dabbles in this hobby knows equipment breaks down or you need some kind of chemicals or food right away, that's why stores like Marine Solutions are in business. Damon is the kind of person that people need to go to when they are just starting in this hobby or even people who have been doing it for a while like myself when your trying something new. Marine Solutions always carries a HUGE, well cared for selection of livestock and all the accessories. If I'm ever in need of something and don't have time to shop around, this is where I go. I know I'm pretty much always going to find what I'm looking for. I have 2 complaints about the store...The first is important, the second is just a suggestion. I've never felt welcomed in the store. Only once, out of the several times I've been there has someone actually greeted me or been remotely friendly. One person, in particular, has been almost overtly rude to me more than once. I feel like an inconvenience every time I walk through the door. Secondly, the store could use some updating. It's rather drab and because of that, it appears dirty. My review, is not in any way meant to take away from the fact that this store carries excellent merchandise. I've always been happy with my purchases. I just wish it was a more pleasant place to shop. read more

First time in Ryan helped and I was the only customer. He was great. He helped me gather everything to start my 40 gal tank. The next 3 times I have been in. Service was horrible. No one would help. Ryan was too busy joking and negotiating coral prices with what seemed to be regular customers because they were knew one another. I found out from every other store and person (over 8 stores, multiple people including Ryan's friends at other saltwater stores) that he sold me all the wrong equipment and supplies. The only staff that were nice and acted as if they cared about a customer were the ladies behind the counter the couple times they were there. I gave the store multiple chances. I was planning on using them to help me start a saltwater aquarium. I ordered some reactors from them to start the relationship. They turned around and ordered it online from BRS. It still had the BRS stickers on them and they marked it up 20%. I could have ordered it from BRS and saved the 20%. I gave it one more try and stopped in and asked them if they had a 1" bulkhead. Of course they did and they sold it to me for $16. Guess what, BRS sells the same bulkhead for $6 and free shipping. They made a little off of me with these two purchases but it cost them a lot since I will never be back in their store to purchase another item, pay them to help me set up my tank or to buy livestock. read more

Went to Marine Solutions to purchase an auto top off for my reef tank. I had never hooked one up but but one of the guys that worked there took the time to show me. The best part was that the price was cheaper than I saw on the internet and I didnt have to wait for shipping. They also special ordered me some nice acro colonies. In response to Bills review, I guess he has never seen a Flame Angel or Coral Beauty in a reef tank...My experience has always been great there, especially when they let my wife feed the stingrays while Im shopping for corals. read more

Excellent selection of Marine Fish. The staff can be helpful but you need to ensure you let them know what is in your tank. Prices are a bit higher than other stores but I have not lost a fish from this store yet. Given the quality if the fish, the price is worth it. read more

I love this store. Ryan is exactly what the saltwater scene needs in the st louis and st charles area. He is knowledgable in all aspects of the marine hobby. I have been in the hobby for 25 years and consider myself an advanced marine hobbyist. Just for fun sometimes I will act like I dont know what the hell I am doing and ask questions a beginner would ask just to see what the people behind the fish counter will say. I will ask about husbandry of this fish or that coral......Ryan has always answered spot on. I have become bored of "normal" fish in the marine hobby and yet Ryan keeps me interested by special ordering anything for me from his trusted vendors. All the fish are throughly inspected by Ryan and he won"t let you buy a fish that is even a little suspect of having a disease or not eating. On that point, he knows when each fish has eaten last and what it has eaten. Perfect store ran by a manager with a high amount of knowledge and class! I put my money where my mouth is as I routinely spend between $300 and $850 per fish at marine solutions ran by Ryan. I noticed another reviewer bad mouth Ryan for talking and joking with regular customers. This is true in that Ryan knows everyones name who comes into the store. In fact, he knows what every customer likes and will help them find exactly what they are looking for in the store. The person who gave a one star must either be a troll or a very unsocialble person as Ryan is engaging and treats ALL his customers like family. If Ryan ever leaves Marine Solutions I will start shopping at whichever store is lucky and smart enough to hire him!!!! BTW, thank you to the teenager at petland who sold me a $90 baby clown trigger for $10 because he thought it was a fancy damsel!!! This is a great store. The staff are always helpfull and friendly. They have a wealth of knowledge but if they don't know what a particular fish or coral is they are honest about it instead of bs. They are really busy on weekends so expect to wait a little bit. Also they aren't good about keeping prices on coral and fish posted. Ask for Nick or Eric. read more

I placed an order online for 2 fish, an urchin, & copepods. There was little communications from this establishment when I tried to track down my order. When ot arrived, I was missing a fish. I called the store, sent emails and was ignored. I finally got Brent Watson to accidentally answer the phone & said he would refund my money for the fish. I waited...no refund. A week later I sent an email to Mr. Watson and hr promised that hr forgot & would fix the refund. I waited another week...no refund. Thankfully I used paypal, so I opened a dispute within the 45 days. They gave Mr. Watson 15 days to respond & he didn't bother answering them either. Paypal has since secured my fund back to me, but what kind of business are you running Mr. Watson?
