They helped with setup and created the perfect unicorn-themed art class for the kids. Think paint night for kids, with lots of staff support for the little ones. My daughter and her friends had such a blast, highly recommend for kids' birthday parties!

Our daughter is 5. She's always been very interested in puzzles, coloring/drawing, crafts, etc so I…read moreknew I wanted to enroll her in art classes. We tried a free art class here and I got to sit in the class. The teacher was very patient and taught her to first draw each line curve etc then they used oil pastels to color, next they used water paint to paint, then they used clay to make dirt. Our trial class is the excavator picture you see. We were very amazed at how much she learned in that one session. We enrolled her immediately. There are multiple make up sessions throughout the week if you need to miss your regularly scheduled class for vacation etc and option to do one on one make up class as last resort as well. We love the staff here and know she'll be in good hands and learn more of her passion here. There's multiple classes going on at the same time based on different art class levels. I've seen kids make sushi with different color clays etc and I've seen kids sketching when I'm pick up or dropping off my daughter so there's definitely lots to learn. I can see why happy Picasso is so popular around here after trying it out myself. When my daughter turns 7 and if she's interested, they also offer digital art class which will be useful for her in the future as well. Teachers here are very patient with the students. The kids also earn stamps each class and can trade them for prizes too. Very fun and motivating environment. 5 stars! And thanks.

Elyse's art classes were transformational for our 5 year old daughter. Elyse is everything you…read morewould want in a children's art teacher - kind, creative, calm and inspirational. She gives the right balance of of structure and open creativity to inspire the kids to make beautiful creations. She is COVID conscious and I felt safe and comfortable sending our daughter to class even during the dark days of the pandemic. We have consistently send our daughter to Elyse's classes since August of 2020 and will continue to do so as our children love her and she is a gifted teacher and artistic mentor. We also love that she does a mindful moment at the start of class to allow the kids to relax and release the other parts of their day before getting fully into the creative space.

My teaching philosophy is child-centered--I believe that all children are capable of greatness and my job is to inspire and empower them to think outside of their comfort zone. I focus on all parts of the creative process to encourage creativity by including some art history, art appreciation and critique. By focusing on the process and the exploration of materials, my art classes motivate children to use their imagination and bring life to their ideas. I try to inspire their creativity by setting out the supplies and encouraging art that doesn't have rules or boundaries, just allows for experimentation and exploration with colors, materials, and technique.

Go Vikings! I…read moregraduated from Mills High School and was one of the few (2-4) Asian girls in the Class of '68. My father was George Yin-Shou Che, who served as General Consul of the Republic of China in the Bay Area from 1961-1968. Later, the Republic of China was referred to as Taiwan, when the People's Republic of China (Mainland) bumped Taiwan out of the UN. I remember my 4 years at Mills High School with great fondness. Though I was always in the minority - e.g., my Latin class had 25 white boys and 1 Chinese girl (me) - I never felt isolated or alone since my 5 close girlfriends were independent thinkers who focused on the wackier side of life. I credit the students and teachers of Mills High (1964-1968) for instilling in me the traits of hard work, good health, good humor and love of people. At Mills High in the 1960's, I learned the BIG lesson that anything is possible if I wanted it and didn't give up! So after Mills, I went on to major in Chemistry, get a Ph.D., have a family, start a US pharmaceutical company (OPTR) and bring a life-saving drug (DIFICID) to the world. This summary of my life and career is short, but the journey was very long one. This year, I'm a member of the MHS Class of '68 2013 Reunion Committee and in my search for MHS info, I found this "Yelp MHS Review" page, and I could not resist giving my Mills High School a five-star rating! Acting Coach Giovannie ("Gio" for short) offers a number of classes where your young actors will learn and grow their acting chops. And most importantly have fun while learning their craft. She's both honest and professional while giving instruction and critique. Giovannie can give you the advice necessary to succeed in auditions as well as actual film/tv roles. I've learned that the audition process is a different animal than the the work you do once you get the role. Sometimes auditions will give you very little info - those running them will expect you to know what to do! If it weren't for Gio's instruction, I wouldn't have been mentally prepared for a lot of auditions. And as much as I would like to hear "great job" everytime, there is great value in having an instructor/coach who challenges you to become better than "good" - good reads are good but "great reads" get the part!!!! There are a lot of good actors out there so you need to have an edge! Giovannie is great with kids too as she is a mother herself! Some parents posted some testimonials on her website: (read the student reviews on the right) http://www.desertrosemedia.com/client_kudos Some of Gio's credits include a recurring role on ER (4 episodes), a role on BONES, and GILLMORE GIRLS. She was also recently nominated along side Alfre Woodard for Best Supporting Actress in the 2009 Method Fest. http://sfactorsworkshop.com/
