    Chicken flautas!
    Ray L.

OMG--I seriously can't stop smiling about the lunch I just had at Marina's. Initially, the homemade corn tortillas brought me here, but I am happy to report that the food is just as amazing. For lunch, I opted for the Chile Colorado with rice and beans. I would like to start with how tender the pork was. How long was this meat cooked? How did it manage to stay so tender and not fall apart until I decided it was time? Oh, and the tomato based sauce that the pork was swimming in? Heavenly! The aforementioned corn tortillas were a perfect companion to the Chile Colorado. I hate to admit it, but Marina's version of this dish might even be better than my late Grandmother's (May she rest in peace). My wife opted for two a la carte menu items, and she devoured them in record time. The first to arrive was the chicken flautas. Now these bad boys aren't the frozen variety that you can find at Costco -these flautas are the real deal. Hand-rolled and fried to perfection, the chicken inside managed to stay tender and juicy. The next a la carte item to show up was the cheese quesadilla, and I was a huge fan of the simplicity. I am ol' school when it comes to my quesadilla -I don't need any exotic cheeses or fancy accompaniments. Just fill up a flour tortilla with some Monterey Jack cheese, and I am good. The rice was flavorful, and the beans had a nice texture to them (not too runny or pasty). My lunch today was one of the best meals that I have enjoyed in a long time. The place is small, and the wait time can be substantial given the limited staff. I would recommend calling your order in about 20 minutes ahead of time if you only have an hour lunch break. I hope this review will convince at least one person to give this place a try. This family owned and operated business deserves the support of the community. You can expect delicious, homemade, authentic Mexican food at affordable prices. I plan on coming back on a weekly basis to sample some more of their tasty creations. I hope to see you there!

    Birria de res (beef)

If your looking for authentic mexican food and want birria this is your spot. This ain't no fake wanna be mexican restaurant this is real. Lol I was skeptical from the looks of the neighborhood and also their sign Outside that says Barbacoa de borrego (sheep) also Birria de Chivo (goat) y res (beef). I'm glad I walked in because the food is amazing ;)!!!! If your not 100%mexican then you should stick to Birria de res which is beef. you may be turned off by the texture and looks of the borrego( sheep) or chivo( goat) just play it safe stick to beef. If you had it before then go for it :) the order comes with 4 handmade tortillas which was just a teaser due to being so mexi I can eat 10 of those. which I did I pay extra for. I'm glad I have a spot to come to on Sundays good food and cold beer for my cruda aka hangover what more can i ask for;) with this cold weather ahead of us it makes it so much more yummy. My kids loved the free chips they bring you while you wait for your order. The chips came with refried beans and cheese. make sure if you don't like cheese to let them know when you place your order. my kids also had some carne asada tacos. They were also good. This place just felt like I was back home (Jalisco) also like I was eating at my house haha theirs not waiters or waitresses they will bring you your food and drinks you get up and get your own salsa etc. if you want more tortillas you have to ask them and pay extra because they won't read your mind. Just taught I ad all this so you an know what to expect. Enjoy:)

The restaurant had great energy and a fun, buzzy atmosphere. The crowd was a lively mix of people from the Capitol, couples enjoying date night and moviegoers grabbing dinner before or after a show. We ordered the carnitas and carne asada. Both plates were generous and full of flavor. The carnitas were tender and practically fell apart with a fork, and the carne asada was cooked perfectly. Add friendly service and a colorful setting, and you have a great downtown Sacramento dining spot!

Unfortunately, the service was lacking during our visit. One of our meals was forgotten and we had to flag down the server to let him know. Our server also wasn't around very often, so it was difficult to get refills or ask for anything we needed. When we requested a specific number of to-go boxes, we weren't given enough and had to get up and ask for additional boxes ourselves. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but I took away 1 star for the lack of service. The service could definitely use some improvement, especially since it wasn't busy when we went. With more attentive service, this could have been a much better dining experience.

They didn't just walk by like frazzled, hurried workers like most restaurants pushing through the crowds. They actually gave me a nice smile and said welcome, and then walked by. And then I got to the reception area found that there was already a pretty big crowd at around the 5:30 PM or so I guess a lot of early birds come to eat there on Sunday. The receptionist asked for how many and said you'd be like a 20 minute wait and there was chairs where people were waiting but it was only like a 15 minute wait. The server was fast with the chips and salsa and ice water and then soon the waiter came and took my order. He was really quick and witty, fun to talk to. What I really enjoyed was as the noise of the table Near quieted down and they left. I saw a young man cleaning up the table and getting it ready for the next group of people. He was dressed really nice and had a tie on. Having been in restaurants most of my life I said to myself, I bet you he works with the owners or something. And I said to him, are your related to people that own the place ? he said my parents own this place. He was very friendly and polite. He told me a tiny bit about the restaurant and how everything had been since 1970, much older than he was, he was only a sophomore in high school I think. I never really got his name, but I was kind of proud of him because he was working hard at his family's restaurant. I ordered probably something bigger than I could eat because I had to take leftovers home, but it was really a tasty meal, and they're coming out with more chips and salsa without being asked, probably didn't help as well as a second lemonade. It's really impressive when you have a well oiled machine and it appeared to me that the people that worked there seem to be happy so that's always a good sign of good management. Several years back, I worked in the restaurant industry doing maintenance and repairs so I went to a lot of different restaurants and saw a lot of things so I know what to look for. I'm definitely gonna come back when my brother and his wife come up from the Bay Area my friend Ivan he'll wanna go there for lunch or dinner I know. He's kind of a picky eater and was born in Mexico, but I think he'll be impressed with this place.

I got the 2 item plate and chose verde enchilada and the verde chimichanga. It came with rice and beans but I asked for no beans. The pork was tender but was not spicy at all as the menu stated the pork verde would be spicy. The chimichanga was super cheesy. My friend ordered the steak ranchero dish and did not like it very much. It looked more like a stew. The ranchero sauce looked to be very watery.

If you're grabbing a quick bite before an event, the food will do the job. If you're looking for a relaxed, unhurried dinner, I'd look elsewhere.
