The material is the best we've come across, and that's because the owner is a former boat captain with umpteen years of experience on the sea. He knows where his seafood is coming from, what the quality is, and he only has the best which means no frozen boxes from far away which sadly makes up much of the product on the coast. What's more, he's a student of the sea, literally, and is working to fish in a sustainable way. This is how an operation should run and the end result is delicious. The location is spacious and light, right on the port, floor to ceiling windows and a small changing menu (necessary for the changes in ingredients available). 5 stars, absolutely worth the trip, from Malaga, from wherever. Go here, ask what is good, then sit back and enjoy. Bravo

Spend a couple of hours with the locals, just don't get in their way, exploring all the fabulous food the south of Spain has to offer. The Ratatouille in me is always in cheese heaven. SO many varieties of goat, sheep and cows cheese to choose from. I will never get through all of them. The incredible fresh seafood, many still gasping from their very recent plucking from their watery home. Vegetables so unbelievably fresh and beautiful. Spices. They were my main purchase this day. Why bother to fix true Spanish dishes unless you have a great selection of the appropriate spices. Spain, all the devine jamòn. Legs of various aging just waiting to be sliced just for you. Fresh meats that will have your head spinning- I don't know what to cook first. When traveling always check out the local market. Many stalls will offer samples to try. Other have items that can be prepared to travel home with. Some purchases just may not make it out the door they are so delicious. One last tip- go early in the morning 7-8 am for the best selection. And most markets close around 2 pm.

Because of Escollera's popularity with tourists AND locals alike, it gets busy so have a few things in mind: (1) give your name+last name to the host inside (2) if you can grab a high-top outside, go for it and get a Starter bite while you wait, (3) someone will yell out your last name, then (4) you're in. Attention from all the servers is definitely here and each offered individual tid-bit on what we ordered. Dozen oysters (or "12 pieces") were meaty and juicy with the right amount of oyster liquor. What's more, I know the oysters hubs and I have been getting on the East Coast in the States are good- but these here in Spain's Southern Coast are mind-blowing. Horseradish and mignonette? They're obsolete in these parts. You will get Tabasco as an alternate (for hubs) and some individually-packaged red wine. It did just fine. Prawns were good but the Sardines were excellent with a slightly crunchy-garlicky exterior. The oysters took it a bit over from what we've experienced during our stay. But come to think of it, comparing the quality and straight-from-the-sea catch to the East Coast, they were worth the €54. Skip the juicy-flavored sangria and go for a red or white instead. In essence, it's all about the seafood here.

We ordered a lot of small plates and everything was fresh, perfectly cooked, and well seasoned. While we usually prefer sautéed seafood, the fried squid was exceptional. Don't miss out on this spot!
