I had chronic bronchitis, had fibromyalgia, felt tired and sick all the time, and had neuralgia throughout my torso among other things. After extensive bloodwork, and then going through detailed discussions as to what I was looking at on the reports, she pinpointed my issues and instead of putting me on more medication, she prescribed supplements that would work at getting my body back to functioning on its own instead of medications that would try and treat the symptoms, not the root cause. Although her title is Internal Medicine, I see her more as a Functional Medicine doctor. When having an MTHFR gene mutation, there is no easy fix - it's a journey - one that's slowly gotten me back on my feet and in charge of my life again thanks to Dr. K. I have read some of the negative reviews from other "patients" who have criticized her for not being professional or conventional. I'm not quite sure what they were looking for in a doctor and not every doctor is a perfect fit for everyone. But Dr. K has ALWAYS been there when I needed her and spends a lot of time working through your issues. She genuinely cares about her patients. She is extremely smart and knowledgeable and digs for the root cause instead of a quick fix. Perhaps that is what some of the other patients were looking for - quick fixes.

I now see Dr Costabile, my husband sees him and my son who is mentally challenged sees him. We were all once Dr. Lawler's patients. I never thought we would find someone as good, kind and caring as Dr. Lawler. We had our first visit. I was immediately impressed. I never saw Dr Costabile before that that day.. I was amazed at how he was aware of my health history, listened to me and my concerns. He must have reviewed my complete medical files. He talks as if he had known me and been my Dr for years! He never hesitates when he thinks I need an x-ray or MRI or anything extra. As I said, my son is mentally challenged. At times he can be a bit much. He doesn't like change but he was very comfortable with Dr Costabile. He is very good with him very empathetic and understanding. I would highly recommend Dr Costabile to anyone. While I don't think anyone will find cancer a "wonderful experience", the doctors and staff of Paoli Cancer Center make it as good as it could be for the seven months I was treated there. First, the doctors. Dr. Szarka, trained at Fox Chase Cancer Center, gives off a schoolteacher vibe - Not the mean teacher, but the friendly, scholarly one. You feel comfortable asking questions, and you are confident with the answers you get. Face it - You're trusting your life with your oncologist. If you don't trust them, find another. The nursing staff is also outstanding. During those seven months, I had treatment every two weeks, at the center for about six hours a pop. The nurses would hang out with you (in between rounds), and it was just nice to get your mind off things. Naturally, they were also technically outstanding, but its always nice to having people you can relate to as well. The facilities were also good. The Cancer Center had its own infusion room, with each area having its own TV, and wifi access. Hey, you're sitting there for six hours, you get bored :) While I hope you never have to visit a cancer center, if you find yourself in our survivor club, I can say that you will be hard-pressed to find one better than Paoli's.

She also makes science based recommendations instead of following the newest fads, so she probably won't agree with the latest Dr. Oz diet or believe the "I cured my cancer with diet and exercise alone" stories. She does have a great sense of humor, and will make you feel at ease in the most awkward conversations. I love that I can email her a question and get a response usually within 24hrs, and she doesn't make me feel dumb for asking ridiculous questions. She uses an online patient records portal so I can keep track of test results and make appointments online. She can usually do same day appointments too if you you give her a call. If you need blood work she takes it herself right there in the office, so no need to wait in line at the phlebotomist office. She usually has a "wait it out" approach if she doesn't think an issue is terribly urgent, which could be off putting to some people, but I think this approach makes me feel like she is putting my needs ahead of her bank account. So far she has been right! She is a blogger (https://dinosaurmusings.wordpress.com/about/) and a writer, so you can check out some her "musings" and decide if she sounds like someone you would want to be your doctor. If you don't understand/like her sense of humor, or disagree with her philosophy, she might not be right for you. She is always warm and polite, but direct when she has something important to say...and then frequently follows up with a joke. I think she is awesome, but I could see how some people might not appreciate her. She is who she is...never change Dr. Lucy!
