It's one thing to be denied care that you desperately need from a number of practitioners under the tutelage of one of the clinic directors, who has serious emotional issues and shouldn't be in healthcare. It's one thing to attempt to resolve problems with people who will not listen and who prefer to remain toxic. I got nowhere, to the point where I needed to leave before they dragged me down completely..... It's another to be sent pleas for donations over a year after you have left, which they just sent me even though I have been unsubscribed to their mailing list for a year. I spent a lot of time in my money and even referrals to support this clinic for over 15 years while as a patient and after the way they chose to treat me I wouldn't leave a fart there. It's a shame how quickly a wonderfully vibrant effectively run clinic can go into the toilet so fast and it's shocking to learn how tenacious their staff is, who are clearly fighting to remain toxic. If you are considering being a patient here, please consider going elsewhere. This place needs to get their psychology department employees to do a serious sit down with the staff of this clinic. my son came in with a fever and sore throat during his well visit dr o niel said it was probably a viral bacterial cold/flu and there was nothing they could do but give tylenol. wrong he had tonsilitus/strep i can see white patches on his tonsils myself. she knew it was bacteria which actually means he needs antibiotics! because of her lack of care my son suffered for a whole nother week without antibiotics and i had to bring him to the emergency room . im lucky he didn't die. i will never see her again. and i'll say it again. children should not have to see graphs showing opened vaginas in every room!!! that is sick grooming and completely unnecessary. pedophiles! read more

It seems as if they're very under staffed. I've been waiting for a call to pick up lab orders for weeks because I don't use their lab. I go to a lab where all of my specialists can see the results. I've been waiting for a referral to get my eyes checked for over a year. My provider is doing the best she can with the resources available. I've been waiting for almost two years for an appointment for the dentist. I can't go wait as a standby due to a chronic illness. Also, they no longer require masks , although covid is still mutating. I'm always hopeful that the next time I call, they'll book an appointment or have the referral or lab order ready. read more

The worst clinic I had ever been to. The front desk lacks effective communication. They ask you random questions and give you an attitude if you don't cooperate. I have got the nurses gossiping, flibbering, and slacking. Professionalism is out of the water with these ladies. The males are just as snappy and rude. The doctors alike to not respect what you have to say and they assume what to book you for and what to prescribe you. This entity is a joke. You can never make phone calls to your doctor or reach the front office. Appointments are scheduled up to two months out. You immediately feel like they do not care about you. read more

I recently moved to this area and was assigned this clinic as my primary care facility through my insurance. If you are in this position, I highly recommend you do some research before hand as opposed to having your insurance select one for you. That's how I got stuck with this awful excuse for a "clinic." It's impossible to get an appointment, and when you finally do, be prepared to wait hours to be seen. I once scheduled a TB test for 3pm and wasn't seen until 4:45pm. It's also always packed and they blast the TV in waiting room, so it's impossible to hear over the screaming children and TV. It's highly likely you'll miss hearing your name called and forgo your appointment. They also don't answer the phone or return calls. I was once told that I'd get a call back in 20 minutes, and they called my back in 3 WEEKS. It's almost comical how poorly run this facility is, but even more comical that a wealthy insurance company would assign it's customers a clinic meant for folks without insurance. read more

They make appointments and make you wait over 1.5 hours, I could get, if it was 15-20 minutes, but wait with a little kid for 1.5 hours????? I had a very unpleasant experience this afternoon at a time when I was looking for treatment at the Marin Community Clinic of San Rafael and want to reach out to you to insure you are aware. I had an appointment scheduled at 3:45pm to work on a tooth that was giving me pain.  I arrived at 3:20pm to fill out the paperwork I was asked to complete.  As I was completing the paperwork, I was approached by a staff member (prior to 3:45pm) telling me that if I did not complete this paperwork quickly, I would lose the opportunity to see the dentist to address my tooth issue.  I told them I was doing my best and had to read all the information before just signing it and was told that they were not able to see me.   I was upset at the way I was treated and asked to speak to a supervisor but after being told to come back I was told the supervisor had gone home already.  I did not feel that I was being told the truth. The bottom line is I felt that I was treated terribly in a time of need by the staff at this Clinic.  Despite the pain I am experiencing, I am going to look elsewhere to find a dentist who can help me as this experience was one that does not give me any faith in the staff or in any of the services that I might get there. I am still very upset and disappointed that there is only a generic email for "complaints" that I am not sure anyone will read and or act on. read more

I have been a patient of Marin community clinics for almost 17 years. But in the last year or two, I can't even bring myself to go see my doctor or discourage you from calling with long hold times half an hour to 45 minutes. The recording says to leave a message. They'll call you back most of the time they don't when they do it stays later and when you finally get through to somebody, they were extremely rude and they talk down to you to the point where you feel like you're being humiliated and belittled so you just don't want to call the doctor anymore. read more

Some doctors here are okay. Wait times in the clinic are long. Getting an appointment can take months. Can't get through to anyone by phone, wait times on the phone are usually over an hour. Can't expect too much from a community clinic though. I'm mostly writing this in regards to Dr. Alissa Detz. I almost died because of her negligence. If you care at all about your life then you need to avoid her at all costs. If you actually do want to die then she's perfect for you! read more

They do the best with what they've got. I've found the San Rafael location always has long waits for appts and pharmacy. Novato is quicker. But the service provided is always good. They do everything they can to accommodate and help you. If you need affordable care, this is a good option. read more

within one year I have: Been sent to the wrong location because of incompetent front desk staff and poor communication ( I was accidentally sent to San Francisco when all I needed was paperwork that was there for me behind the desk waiting the whole time) Been asked to come in for appointments that were in fact scheduled incorrectly and left me waiting a few hours at best, but it predominately meant I had to come back another day (this has happened three times) I have had disability paperwork get lost, and then sent in post deadline for when I needed time off work after abdominal surgery- spoiler, I never ended up getting my disability for when I had to take three months off work- which was debilitating and stressful beyond all reason. Mind you, I sent plenty, I MEAN PLENTY of verbal reminders and well as written ones (via voicemail and email) for two months prior to my surgery to have my paperwork done, and they still dropped the ball. I then called everyday for two months and tried to get in touch with ANYONE on the patient feedback line, I finally heard from a woman named Kathy who kept asking me, "what is it that we can do for you?" and I would tell her time and time again that I wanted to speak with a supervisor, and she kept calling me as though we had never talked, and asking "what can we do for you?" I WANT TO TALK TO A SUPERVISOR!!! and guess what? she never connected me to anyone I could share my complaints and concerns with. The mistakes and errors of this facility have caused me physical discomfort, I have been Rxd poor or improper medications, MCC has given me the most stressful, unsatisfying, emotionally draining, exhausting, and hellish experience to me. I would have been better just never going to a doctor and feeling ignorantly blissful vs going and feeling what it is like to be neglected and tossed to the side. Even while writing this I have been on hold for nearly 45 minutes in order to get confirmation about a doctors appointment for some blood work that came back with some concerning results, and it turned out that it was scheduled without my knowing and I missed it!!! hahahahaha This is the worst place. I was in the ER months ago and some blood work came back with some concerning results and my PCP was supposed to follow up with me, he never did. I have been trying to track them down since to get clarity and maybe more blood work, nothing. It feels horrible to be a patient at MCC. I cry out of rage, and frustration as a result of the loops and hoops they have spun me through as a result of the mess they call a system. Run. read more

I found a lump in my breast, they called me the day before COVID restrictions and told me my appointment was non -urgent (mind you breast cancer runs in my family). I've been stuck with MCC for years glad I'm able to move now and switch providers!!! The last two days I've been having a medical issue and the nurse calls and disconnects and I can't reach her the rest of the day so now I have to wait until Monday. To top this all off I'm going through a miscarriage having a breakdown and they said someone would call me....nobody did. Last I made a phone appointment I have a growing lump on my face that has changed color and somehow a phone appointment is going to help ‍. Please avoid these clinics unless you have unlimited time on your hands and a death wish. read more

I see a different doctor every time because the primary care doctor is booked months in advance. It's a mixed bag for sure-Some good things & some bad. Currently I have Obamacare because the premiums tripled once Obama passed the bill-& he quite literally "passed" the bill to the middle & lower class. Now I cannot afford any kind of real insurance due to my income bracket & Obama care is the only choice I have. Obama care is health care for all & quality for no one. Under Obamacare doctors are getting paid way less so there is much less incentive now to become a doctor. They are not saints who enjoy working for free-They are doctors! At best the doctors here do whatever they can to help you. But at worst, here is an example; I was experiencing a serious heart issue, showing all the classic signs of having a heart attack. This was out of the blue... It was weeks before I could see a cardiologist. The cardiologist I saw was told all of the classic symptoms whenone is about to have a heart attack. Yet, he had zero desire to take an exray or MRI etc... set me a way to do a stress test, running on a treadmill basically. And didn't see me again for three weeks. At which point he offered me no explanation of any kind. Yet I experienced this heart problem for 7 weeks straight. I spoke with others with different healthcare plans (wealthy people) who had the exact same symptoms & their cardiologists took it much more seriously-getting x-rays and MRIs done very quickly to figure out what was going on. One of them sure enough was on the verge of having a heart attack. This made me feel like the cardiologist I saw really didn't care about my life. Literally whether or not I lived or died. I'm assuming it was related to not getting paid (?). Another example, I went in and was diagnosed with Covid last month. The doctors instructions; go home and drink liquids. My response: "that's it?" No mention of Zink, VC, VD, magnesium, Pedialyte... Nothing. Now with Obamacare, I am reading medical books and have anatomy flashcards and I'm learning how to do my own research. At this point my own research has been perhaps more effective than seeing a doctor under Obamacare. To reiterate, the primary care doctors are doing the absolute best they can-& I have a tremendous amount of respect for the way they help as best they can. If I need an antibiotic they are the only ones I can get it from-And they know which one is for which ailment. I put three stars because I'm very grateful for the doctors who are doing the best they can for someone who can't afford healthcare... PAIN MANAGEMENT will cause you more PAIN... this is not the place to go. I wish I could write something nice but my expiernce was HORRIBLE- I HAD to deal with it for far to long. This is about the Provider EMILIA COLL. I inherited Emilia Coll for pain management when I Went to Marin Comunity Clinic. After dealing with her month after month the one thing I can say she lacks empathy greatly. Since she had to take over my case-we never had good footing.I think she didn't approve of pain management I felt resentment in every step with her. She didn't treat me nicely. She also didn't care at all about my personal situation.I tried to deal with it-I had no choice-but I would NEVER go back by choice or recommend ever! If you have any pain management issues RUN don't walk away! Find anybody but her to go see. She will not help you or care. After her care & treatment I'm still traumatized. What she doesn't realize people with pain management issues are not below her. I'm so happy I found a caring new doctor. She was not that at all. My doctor before her was amazing, but she ended up leaving opening private practice a distance away. I tried to find another doctor within Marin Clinics but Emilia made sure nobody would help. Time has passed since I have been there and I'm still anxious over this horrendous treatment. If I can save one person the humiliation and brutality of the care- it will make me happy I had the courage to share. read more

I too am surprised by all the negative reviews. San Rafael has taken amazing care of my needs. Yes sometimes you have to hold on for them to answer a call but I have always been treated with the utmost respect. I have had several major surgeries through this clinic and each one has been more than I had hoped for. It's a great link to UCSF. When I'm offered other doctors I request ICSF and have never been denied. For folk with medical I can't think of a better place. read more

My mom had an appt scheduled here to see her doctor at Marin Community, mind you, we waited more than a month for this appointment. That is just the beginning. I received a call from my brother stating my mom and him were involved in an auto accident. Luckily they were fine. He asked me to pick mom up to take her to the doctors appt. We arrived 20 min late., and told they were not sure the doctor, Dr. Chang would still be able to see her., then later informed us she couldn't see my mom. I do understand that we were late, But what really annoyed me is that Dr. Chang was still with the patient scheduled before my mom. Therefore, THEY were running LATE. Yet, if we showed up at the scheduled time, they would have seen my mom 30 min later!!??? Knowing they were running late and not accommodating a disabled patient (my mom) really upsets me. In the past, she has had a few appointment here , and they are always late and never on time. The nurse director spoke with me and rescheduled her a new appointment. Which is a month from now!! This place rates a 0 for customer service. I work for Sutter Health, and there is absolutely no way we would turn away an elder or disabled patient. The Marin community clinics dental office in Novato discriminates against persons with disabilities. I brought a homeless disabled man into the dental office in Novato because he had a serious infection in his mouth. The dentist working that day did not give him any medication and in fact refereed him to a specialist in San Francisco, who by the way did not answer their phone when we tried to make an appointment. When I explained that the homeless disabled man had no way to get there, I was told by the dentist that is all he could offer for someone on medical. What is medical? If you are disabled and homeless you are not eligible for Obama care or covered California. What? Not one in this organization has a spec to heart. How is a homeless disabled man with an infected mouth going to make it to San Francisco for some unknown appointment to get his tooth pulled. Wow. Discrimination against the disabled in Marin is rampant. read more

This place is a hell-hole of incompetence and horrible care. After prescribing my son an antibiotic they knew he was allergic to, the pharmacist caught the mistake and tried to get them to fix it. They said to call back the next morning as they don't have doctors on call. The next morning they said they had no doctors either and that a nurse would call. My pharmacist and I tried in vain to reach them for the next four hours with nothing but growing frustration while on hold for hours. We ended up having to go to the emergency room to see a doctor to fix the problem. The cringeworthy care at MCC should be avoided at all costs unless you have a death-wish. This kind of care is what makes other countries laugh at the USA health care. read more

I was seen 'walk-in' here with an extraordinarily painful infection. The nurse refused me antibiotics and lectured me about how overuse of antibiotics breeds superbugs. I am immunocomprimised, and told her this, insisting that I needed Cipro or the infection would go into my bloodstream. She called in an attendant and threatened to have me removed by force, raising her voice as if I had acted in a hostile manner. 30 hours later I was admitted to Marin General with a 108 fever, when the bacteria entered my blood and kidneys. The doctor said it was the worst infection of its type he had ever seen. I spent 4 days in the ICU with 8 bags of Cipro administered to me intravenously which caused incredibly painful intestinal problems. I felt like I was being let out of jail. This clinic should not be allowed to operate and I hope this "nirse" has lost her job. It was very traumatizing. read more

Dr. Jackson was my child's Pediatrition, she was Amazing, Attentive, and very down to earth. This is one of the most efficient clinics I have ever visited. It's a all in one health facility! You can go in with no insurance and they will help you apply and get approved on the spot! Marin Community Clinic has every possible resource you need, and if they don't they will help you figure out a solution to your dilemma. All in all I would recommend this place to anyone. All the nurses don't want to do there jobs. You have to wait 3 months to make an appointment even thought they act like they have so many patients. All the nurses be having attitudes like if they just hate working there or life especially one lady working in the window. We called many times to make appointments and waited for at least 10 to 30 minutes. No staff picked up the lines. Doctor appointment was missed, waiting for the doctor and no show call. No reminders... what kind of service is this ? Where is the management?? COVID pandemic or not, their service is bad. Huge grateful thank you to the staff at Marin Community Clinic in San Rafael - most especially to Dr. Schwartz and Nurse Nubia (I apologize for any name misspellings). Dr. Schwartz is what want of a physician taking care of my child - prompt, obviously knowledgeable, communicative and - thankuverymuch IMPORTANT - he's funny and super down to earth without coming off as condescending. Nurse Nubia is possibly the sweetest nurse I have ever encountered...like ever. This woman is officially my new imaginary fairygodmother/abuela. She is, by her own admission, the oldest nurse at the clinic but I'd lay odds on the rest of those other youngsters (all of them, perfectly cheerful and efficient btw) having to work to keep up with her. The overall speed of the services rendered was also way beyond satisfactory. From the line at intake followed by a maybe 10 min interval spent watching America's Funniest Home Videos on the big TV (which, I gotta say, is a pretty genius idea for any multilingual medical/dental office wtg rm) through the initial nurse weigh-in, BP and temp check, through the actual in-office procedure performed by the Doctor (involving a scalpel I might add)  wound cleaning and bandaging assisted by the very affable, obviously new and slightly nervous male physician's assistant, to the hand delivery of the easy to understand printout of our aftercare instructions and finalized follow up appt, took all of about 55 minutes. Not once did I ever feel like we were being rushed or given anything less than anyone's full attention. This mornings follow up appt took less than 45 minutes (R.L. Stein's Goosebumps providing the entertainment du jour-nice!) and my kid was sent off with a freshly tended bandage, confirmation of her much-improved status and a hug from FairyGodmother/Abuela/Nurse Nubia. 5 stars. I go to the Novato Clinic and the mistakes they make. Putting a wrong name on X-ray orders, getting my medication wrong or not being re-filled at all. The wait time to see my Doc is a hour to 2 hours and to get a appointment, it takes a month or longer. Sure its a clinic, but it does'nt need to be run so poorly. It deserves no stars, but I apparently have to give one! read more

The biggist waste of time. My NP who I went to after having a cold cough for 3 weeks refused to give anything but a prescription for over the counter medication. I don't know why in the world she thought I would waste my time being seen for that.
