We have been members of Pediatric Alternatives for over 7 years since my children were born. I have always been pleased with the care, recommendations and explanations we receive. Dr Woodard is a phenomenal practitioner, very wise, compassionate, encouraging and thoughtful, throughly experienced, all three of my children are seen at this practice, we even stayed after moving 100+ miles away! Dr Edwards and Dr Bein are also outstanding. I feel very confident in this group of doctors truly offering evidence based medicine as well as simple homeopathic medicine, a broad range of education training and experience in several modalities and they appropriately recommend treatments based on your child's very specific situation and health history. Virtual care has been simple to obtain. The membership is straightforward, many private independent practices have this model and it is pricier (worth every penny!) and may not be accessible to all however the price does not increase the more children you have. Personally I am shocked at the reviews, it is a small private practice, they cannot always get back to you regarding business matters the same day, but for medical concerns, they do reply promptly. Over the years, the office staff is also courteous, and I believe that courtesy goes in both directions, Courtesy can always start with each of us. We're not leaving this practice, they provide exceptional care and recommendations, my kids are in great health and I have learned so much over the years from the wisdom in this practice! Trying to get information and appointments scheduled is so tedious- front office staff is rude and doesn't return your calls. Absolutely love this practice!!! The doctors there are top of their class, up-to-date with current research, and help parents with their child's health and developmental needs. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Dr. Woodard and Dr. White are fantastic pediatricians that look at your child's individual needs and help families with nutrition, habits, and routines. The space is so relaxing. I remember I used to go to my son's previous pediatrician, and I would have anxiety about "wellness visits" that would only last about 15 minutes, and they were heavily focused on vaccines and not the overall development of my child. What I love so much about this practice is the doctors do the research and give you the current findings and help you make decisions that you're comfortable with. Never pushing anything on you and encouraging you when you make a decision that feels right for your family. I wish everyone could go to this practice and experience it because it is just so different than what we are conditioned to think about what a wellness visit is for your children. And lastly, when your child is sick, they will see your child. Which in my experience with the previous pediatrician, they would never want my son to go into the office because he was sick. I think we dodged a bullet here. Called to make an appointment and was told there is a process for new patients. I was transfered to the office manager and left a voicemail and did not get a return call that day which is odd for someone who is a manager to not return a call to a prospective client. I followed up the next day and spoke with the office manager, she picked up off of the voicemail which was odd. I don't recall her name but she had a French accent. She stated they have a $500 sign up fee and charge $100 a month for a membership. I told her that is a lot of money, $600 on top of our hundreds of dollars we spend on insurance each month plus the cost to commute to get there. She says the $500 can be paid in installments and they membership fee is so they know who is in the practice. Doesn't make sense to me. Not the right fit for us and I feel bad to see so many families have had just awful experiences and allowed this practice to take so much of their hard earned money. read more

This place would be a fantastic place to go to IF their front person wouldn't be so entitled. She talks down on you as if she's superior. Her name is Sandrine. I don't know if it's because I'm a person of color, But I made a appointment, she sounded so nice over email. Once she saw me in person, everything changed. She told me that I will be contacted. And she would put me on a wait list...I waited and waited, followed up 3 months and told me no dr had any openings. A year later we came in and asked if any Dr has any availability. She told me that no one is available, and that she would call back. 2 years later. We still are on a "wait" list..................................... I'm sure there are so many kids who would be benefit from this place but unfortunately, she makes it impossible. She very rude and very unfriendly. She also belittles you. I bring my three children here and have nothing but great things to say! We love Dr. Woodard and Dr. Edwards. Anything that has come up with my kids from weird looking bug bites to your usual stomach bug or fevers and coughs and sore throats, have all been treated with love and care. I have had to contact the office after hours, weekends and evenings and Dr Woodard is amazing! She calls me back personally, sometimes face timing me to see my child herself. I cannot tell you how amazing that is! I am a mom that gets worried when my kids are not feeling well and it is incredible to be able to talk to your doctor and be told that your child is going to be ok when your worried. I always feel like I can ask our doctors anything and I have never ever felt rushed during a visit. We are given options, tips on how to help with food, homeopathy and of course traditional medicine if needed. Their office is cozy and warm with a nice outdoor area in the back. We have been taking our daughter here and we have had nothing but great experiences with everyone we have interacted with. We absolutely love Dr. Edwards and how she really just gives you the facts and lets you make your own decisions for your child. You can tell she cares about her patients like they are her own children as well. It's really great being able to have a doctors appointment that is more than 10 minutes and being rushed in and out so the doctor can see the next patient. We drive an hour each way to get to this office and knowing that I have 45 minutes with Dr. Edwards to actually have an in-depth discussion about the care for my child makes it even more worth it. I also love all of the additional webinars and classes you have the option to take with the doctors across the practice. It makes it feel like they actually want to educate you on things instead of acting like they know best. As far as the staff, they have always been super helpful and friendly. I'm knocking off a star because I honestly don't think I've ever had anyone pick up when I call. That being said, I always receive a call back in a timely manner when I leave a message. They also aren't the greatest at getting administrative things done quickly but if you are patient it gets done eventually. As for the annual fee that's required to be a patient here, if you think about the money they most likely lose out on from insurance companies not paying the incentives for on-time vaccines, it kind of makes sense. I don't know if this is the reason but if I'm able to have a doctor in this state that allows me to vaccinate on my own terms, I'm happy to pay a little extra to help them out. read more

These people are only out to get your money. I wouldn't know if the doctors were good because I went into labor and couldn't get ahold of the office to finish finalizing my paperwork. Months later, after we decided that we needed a more responsive pediatrician, our card got kept getting erroneously charged for all their membership fees. Doctors are alright, but they charge a steep fee for membership ($72/mo). My wife and I ended up moving and leaving, and they continued to charge us membership fees for almost 14 months after the fact, despite us having canceled immediately upon moving and requesting a records transfer. I've e-mailed and phoned their billing department, and no response. Doctors may be okay, but they're in it for the money, and have no qualms stealing from your pocket book. I almost didn't give it 5 stars due to the up-front $900membership fee, and annual $450 fee thereafter. That said, we finally gave in and paid the $$$ as we just weren't finding any practitioners who truly offered a balanced, holistic approach in their care. I understand the rationale for boutique medicine, as insurance has essentially regulated physician visits to a "get-em-in-and-get-em-out" type factory mentality. It's just a bummer that it's come to this in order to receive quality care. Their goal is alternative, minimal invasion first, and only escalating up the chain to harder, "conventional" pharmaceuticals when needed. Example: they''ve NEVER prescribed antibiotics for ear infections and thus none of their patients have ever required ear tubes, etc. Their belief is to support the body in it's healing while managing any discomfort and the body will do the work needed to fix the problem. (If you read most recent research, antibiotics did not provide relief any better than placebo) The are also very open to those who do not vaccinate or who follow an alternate schedule. So all-in-all, they're worth the boutique medicine fees if you can afford it. read more

BEWARE of the "non-refundable annual fee" that will likely not be disclosed in your "meet-and-greet" with the doctor. My wife was ushered through her first visit to see the doctor when our daughter was crying and just signed anything she was given (no receipts were provided)...we only saw the $500 charge once we received our credit card statement. We decided to leave the practice after our first month due to the poor office experience. We asked for a refund of the $500 since we were never informed of it and it had only been a month. All correspondence was done through voicemails...no contact with the doctors and whenever we called back we just got voicemail. Needless to say, we never recovered the fee. Expensive experiment. Sad to leave this review and the actual doctors in this practice are nothing short of amazing! Dr. Lindy Woodward and Stacia Kenet are great but the ppl in the office have terrible costumer service they blatantly ignore calls and let the phone ring endlessly. The most horrible of all is the office manager (Sandrine)that is in charge of membership and payments. She is utterly rude, condescending and passive aggressive. She left me a message saying they had issues charging the yearly fee so i called and gave my credit card info but they had informed me that they changed Payments to monthly payments i said thats fine but wanted them to explain to me what the monthly payment amount would be and also if there were any previous outstanding fees that for whatever reason i could be owning (no one has ever left a eMail or message saying i owed them any fees) the lady i talked to said she wouldn't know anything about fees/membership and she would transfer me to the office manager (she's extremely unprofessional) well she tried to transfer me and she never answered so i left a message but then the call was over. I called right back to let them know she didnt pick up and I didn't know how much i was going to be charged so they assured me they wouldn't charge the credit card before informing me of the amount and how my membership would be monthly. They never called me back. Then my husband contacted saying they had already charged the card. I was frustrated as they had reassured me they wouldn't charge the card until they could tell me how much i owed and how the monthly membership fees would work. I called the office and expressed how i was confused bc they never called me and they went ahead to charge my card without explaining anything to me. The office girl acted confused she put me on hold telling me she had no idea how my membership would be set up and that the membership fee that was charged on my creDit card was $150 besides that she had no clue how much they would be charging monthly she tried to connect me to manager who i know is either inept in her costumer service or shes extremely prejudiced last time i had a similar issue with her wIth my membership was bc she was upset i was receiving a discount bc of my low income status. She straight up told me that i was lucky i was even given a discount like it was coming out of her pocket! She then proceeded to not pick up my calls anyMore i called multiple times and she never picked them up so i had to drIve from sonoma county to marin so i could talk to her and pay to renew my membership! First off, the $900 membership fee is outrageous. You would think that at that price this would be a stellar office with great care and service, but it's not. While the care given by our main pediatrician was ok, dealing with the support staff (billing, reception, nurses) was incredibly difficult. Not only is the staff unable to return calls and answer emails, but they tend to lack the social skills needed to deal with patients and their families. The years we were with this practice I brought these issues to both the office manager's and our Dr's attention to no avail. In fact, when I mentioned that numerous calls were not returned, our Dr told me that actually it's NOT an issue at that calls DO get returned. I regret sinking thousands of dollars into this practice. We should have left sooner. read more

I love, love, LOVE Pediatric Alternatives! Dr. Sarabenet is just fantastic. Every time I talk to her, I know I can trust her advice. Yesterday, I went to our appointment with a ton of questions about so many random things about our daughter's wellbeing, as well as questions about how I should prepare my body for potentially getting pregnant again. She answered them all with ease, and every single answer she gave was a very clear opinion backed by legitimate research and experience. As a Speech Therapist who specializes in autism, knows a good bit about child development and has done a ton of research about a lot of health-related things, it is reassuring that Dr. Sarabenet often cites recent studies and incorporates new findings into her everyday practice. All of her opinions are based on real information, and I leave every visit having learned a ton. I'm the kind of person who is naturally suspicious of a lot of the conventional medical advice, just because it hasn't worked or just been plain wrong for me and my daughter in the past. Before coming to Pediatric Alternatives, I would spend hours researching things about vaccine schedules, supplements, even toothpaste! Now, I FEEL SO FREE! I can just call or email, and I know I'll have an answer I trust! My daughter has been sick with a variety of different colds/stomach bugs/etc., and each time the suggestions and care have been phenomenal. We've tried a few homeopathic remedies for colds, and it is SO convenient that I can also buy vetted vitamins, cleaning supplies, books, supplements, and things like sunscreen and toothpaste at the same time as our appointments. It probably saves me hours of research and searching on Amazon! Also, as an added plus, they have an urgent care partner offices in SF and in Berkeley, so if you're from the East Bay, like me, there are always those options on nights or weekends. Overall, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It is hard to describe the amount of freedom it has given me to actually have a doctor for my daughter that I can trust. The yearly membership fee is ABSOLUTELY worth every penny, just for the peace of mind... after the first year it works out to be something like $38/month. First, the positives. We love Dr. Sarabenet. She is an amazing doctor and we completely trust her and love her. She has helped us out on many occasions. The other doctors are generally very good, as well. That's the positive and its the main reason why we stick around. I can't recommend her highly enough. The negative is all around payment, administration and helpfulness by the billing staff. It is truly like pulling teeth to get them to give you bills that actually reflect what the charge to insurance company was and what you paid. The billing team seems to have no understanding of the requirements of dealing with Flexible Spending Accounts (meaning, I need well-defined bills that explain exactly what I used my FSA card for). The net result has been very sloppy bills, hours of time spent interpreting the bills, and still facing regular rejections from my insurance company. It doesn't help that the billing staff is sometimes not polite and at times quite hostile. They also seem generally unwilling to even CONSIDER changes that might be very helpful to people paying for their services. For example, many practices that charge an annual fee enable you to submit the fee as a legal FSA reimbursement claim by giving you a simple statement that you are paying for access to an electronic medical records system. This is perfectly legal and is very normal. I could not even get the billing team to even understand what I was talking about, let alone consider whether what I was asking was a reasonable request. Every doctor right now has some form of their records system in an electronic format so....what's the problem here. It's particularly galling because their annual fee for access to the practice is pretty stiff - at nearly $400 per family per year. I would gladly give this practice Five Stars for care, as they deserve it. I just hope that in the near future the good doctors can do a bit more to help patients who are not rich people and need to use FSA to pay for this high quality care by making it easier for us with understandable bils and more consideration in listening to our requests. read more

I have never written a review before, but feel compelled to do so after the absolutely horrid customer service experienced at what should be an ideal pediatricians office. I hope this is a wake-up call to the otherwise fabulous pediatrician we have, Dr. Lansman. We have been "members" for 3 years. When we first joined, the staff and nurse was congenial, polite, and a positive force in the office. Unfortunately, times have changed and the nurse/ front desk staff member who we adored has since moved on. The current staff, excluding the nurse, appears angry, is totally inflexible (unless, of course, we were purchasing multiple hundred of dollars worth of supplements). The game is that if you try calling and they do not "like" you, they put the call to voicemail. Just happened as I had asked for the medical assistant to repeat my phone number to ensure that it was heard correctly on the other end of the phone. Well, that was enough for her to cut me off, and put the call into voice mail. Really? Is that how professionals act? I feel like there is some serious animosity going on here about for absolutely no reason. Pardon me, but I had been PATIENTLY waiting for a call back from our pediatrician, Dr. Lansman for well over a week and a half. I wonder if she ever received our original message... The original complaint arose due to my daughter's medical forms not being filled out completely. We brought them to appointment and arrived 10 minutes early as requested so that they could be completed. I had to drop off the forms for a second time as a full page was left blank and was told that they would be ready for pick-up after a Wednesday the following week when our doctor was in. We live in SF so driving there and back is not quite a doddle. Two weeks later, I drove back to the office. When we arrived, I realized that both my infant daughter and toddler were fast asleep. I called the office and said, "I am literally sitting in my car at the foot of your driveway (you can't drive in). Is there a way that you can bring out my daughter's medical form?" With indignation, the medical assistant replied that she had no idea what I was talking about and that I would need to come into the office. I once again explained that the kids were sleeping and that it would difficult to get them up for what should be a two minute exchange of paperwork. I was advised to leave the kids in the car because no one in the office could posssssibly come the 20 feet to the car. Really???? They were SO busy with "clients". I was not even told that if I waited 5 or 10 minutes so that they could finish with a family, one of them could bring me the paperwork. I walked into the office and ONE family was leaving. No one else besides 3 staff members were in there sitting and doing who knows what. The front desk clerk said that this was Mill Valley and leaving kids in the car is essentially harmless as if nothing eve would happen in Mill Valley. Seriously? I guess I have not yet drunk the kook-aid, but I do not ever leave babies in the car. After ALL that the forms were still not ready! So, I essentially was told to come into the office, watched as the staff talked to themselves, and no forms. Lovely. Then again, it was almost lunch time and I am sure they were waiting to get out. I recall my experiences as a child going into the peditrian's office and never sensed such disdain for my parent's from the staff. I see that others have referenced the negative aspects of the office staff. I cannot see how even the best of practices can thrive with such insensitive staff, especially now that more competition is coming up like Getzwell in SF. read more

Kind, friendly, thoughtful, remembers little things about your child and has a wonderful bedside manner. I also love that she does a full real physical and doesn't rush you through your appointment. Our daughter is now 4 years old and is one of the healthiest in her class. She takes vitamins and supplements as prescribed by Pediatric Alternatives and rarely gets sick. I loooovve this Pedi office! Dr Woodard rocks. Even though I pay a yearly membership, which stings a bit and I pay out of pocket because they don't take Medi-Cal, they are totally worth it! I love the holistic and alternative approach to medicine, starting with food as medicine being the key to overall health. I have only had amazing experiences here for my kiddos. I interviewed many pediatricians when pregnant with my 17 month old daughter and they were all the same - standard practices and eager to prescribe medication for any problem. I was reluctant to go to PA because of the membership fee, but once I interviewed Dr. Sarabenet, I knew there was nobody else I would want caring for my child. We love everything about Pediatric Alternatives --they partner with parents to make minimal, yet important decisions about their children. I am impressed with the options and respect I am given when weighing the options for my child. My kids love the environment and are always excited to see Dr. Stacia. The staff has done a great job making the doctor's office an inviting and peaceful place to be. We are happy to pay a yearly fee for a practice like this. I had previously worked with Dr. Yee at Prima and was very disappointed and wanted to find a practice that was balanced between the conventional medical model and alternative methods.
