Disappointing brunch experience. We got the Breakfast Scramble, Eggs Benedict, and a side of cheesy eggs and waffles for our son. Everything was under-seasoned, the eggs having none. The Scramble came out unusually wet and a bit flavorless. The accompanying sourdough had no butter. My wife asked for spinach on her Eggs Benedict and there too much and was raw and just tossed on. And, the kitchen got the Breakfast Scramble wrong, completely missing the mushrooms, though it did correct the error. Oh, and the potion sizes were very small for the price charged. Could be improved: Some of our cocktails were good but my Old fashioned was served on the rocks in a beer glass and watery as all get out. This cannot compare to Marilyn's on main in Uniontown. We had reservations for 6 for my Granddaughters 15th birthday ! The bar was packed and you could barely get by the people ! Very overcrowded, and loud! Felt like a college bar rather than a fine dining establishment! Appetizers were good, however all of the Entrees were horrible. One dish was baked pasta and Meatballs, it was hard as a rock and inedible, surf and turf horrible steak was not seasoned, lobster rubbery! New york strip got sent back! Service so slow 2 hours for food, 30-45 minutes for a drink! Would not go back , collectively we spent approximately $500 dollars for a $50 experience. read more

We're from NY so we know good and bad restaurants. We're in town to celebrate birthday/anniversary and a sit down dinner would be nice.Made reservations and was seated right away. Wasn't crowded so I doubt if reservations were needed. We sat outdoors; indoor seating is an option as well. Table wasn't wiped down before we sat but the waitress apologized and proceeded to clean the table. We ordered the General Tsao's cauliflower which was good; a little less sauce would be my preference. On top of Creamy pearl cous cous was a nice piece of halibut. Located in a strip mall, it is a nice higher-end addition with normal options. For starters, great indoor, window walled seating accompanied by a bar area, regular seating, and small outdoor patio. The spaghetti (fettuccine) with marina and meatballs was great, and the Italian sausage and broccoli pasta was unique and quite delicious. Bathrooms are beautiful and well-kept, as well. I was very excited to try this place after hearing a bunch of great reviews but to say the experience was subpar/underwhelming is an understatement at best. We were seated at the table for roughly 10 minutes with no greeting before I finally asked someone who our server was and this sweet girl decided to take us on as her table since our server was nowhere to be found. We were then given the wrong wine, which no big deal they corrected it and brought us the right one. We were also never given the bread basket so inevitably we had to ask for it. We had the dipping plate as an appetizer and it was amazing. When it comes to entrees however, this is when things take a downturn. I ordered the Colossal and substituted it with the Parmesan risotto. My scallops were very cold and the risotto had absolutely no flavor to it. The other entree that was ordered was the Scallops Provençal and they were at least warm and pretty tasty. Seems this restaurant has a few kinks it needs to workout. With the high cost of entrees, it should be a pretty well oiled machine but that doesn't seem to be the case. read more

It's a bit on the pricey side, but the food is solid and the service was great. My family and I went to celebrate a birthday, so we knew going in that it was a bit fancier than we are used to. Two of the four ordered the salmon dish and were happy with it. It was served with a white lime rice and a mango salsa. My daughter got the gnocchi, which was a very large portion and super heavy. She probably ate 12 bites and was full. I ordered a chicken dish, battered in egg, with a lemon sauce. It was tasty, but the potatoes and green beans that came with it were the start of the dish. The garlic bread they bring to accompany dinner was very good although a bit greasy. We didn't have room for dessert, unfortunately. We will definitely try it again, but likely not in our normal rotation due to the price. read more

Before I decided to write this review I started to read the other reviews. JS review was correct. First of all we had a party of 10 for the WVU graduation and we were only 1 of 2 parties in the whole restaurant at 8:30pm. We finally got out by 11:00 pm because service was very slow to the point the food came out cold. The waitress never came around to check on drinks and there was no bus boy to clean off plates and took the waitress a while to bring more bread and get the plates. The only reason it gets an extra star was for the wine list as the food was only average and the service was really bad but the atmosphere was good. read more

The bad: Ordered 2 sirloins 1 medium, 1 med-rare. both came on a giant pile of COLD Sam's Club Frozen Waffle Fries. Advertised as Prime Beef, both were inedible and un-chewable. They were not anywhere close to Prime grade beef. More like Old Donkey. Our dogs ended up with $80 worth donkey steak when we got home. Our son's NY Strip served with cold instant mashed potatoes. was only slightly better, but still nowhere close to a Prime Cut. Better quality steaks to be had at Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn Steakhouse at less than half the price. Very, very disappointing. Service was far less than adequate for alleged "Fine Dining" experience and premium menu pricing. We won't be back. read more

Marilyn's is consistently outstanding. The food, the drinks, the beer list and the service are top notch, time after time. (Shout out to Emily this evening!) We've eaten here more than dozen times over the past year, and I never got around to posting a review. Maybe I've just been too busy enjoying my leftovers to think about it. From the very first thing I ordered (house made pasta with Alfredo sauce and grilled chicken) to today, I have never been disappointed. The pasta here is fresh and house-made, as are the sauces. The spicy red, the Alfredo and the vodka sauce are all incredible. Tonight, I had something new -- Chardonnay shrimp scamp made with banana peppers. Outrageously good! Who ever thought to add the banana peppers is a genius. I've made my own scampi dozens of times, and it has never been as good as this dish tonight. It was bright and lemony and spicy at the same time, with parmesan and fresh shrimp. Every flavor was perfectly balanced. The last time we visited, The Summer Colossal was a special. It's now on the menu full time. And it is HEAVENLY. It's a shrimp-and-grits inspired dish, with scallops and roasted poblano peppers. Absolutely incredible and gorgeously presented. The Abe Froman, a baked ziti with sausage and ground beef, is enough for three people and totally yummy. The pasta with vodka sauce and grilled chicken is to die for. The salads are fresh, with real greens instead of iceberg. The focaccia was fresh, and gone in a minute! If you're from the area, you might wonder how it compares to what had been a longtime favorite, Oliverio's. Well, Oliverio's is good. But Marilyn's is great. The beer list features high-quality beers from big breweries like Stone, but also lots of local and regional beers, like Helltown in PA and WV's own Chestnut Brew Works. Tonight, they had Buffy from Helltown and Lunch from Maine Beer Company on tap. Can't beat that! Every single meal has been terrific, and we've brought a half-dozen friends and family. Big fan of marilyns. Excellent scallops perfectly cooked every time I've ordered them. Somewhere between upscale and casual eatery that is appropriate for for special occasions and just a dinner out. My family just held my retirement celebration at Marilyn's of Morgantown in their event room and I must say it was a wonderfully run event. The room was beautiful, the service was excellent (thank you Robert), and the food was awesome. I found this restaurant to be pretty average but I was really anticipating more as I was told it was a nicer place to go to. It's definitely nice compared to some of the chains in the area but I didn't find it fascinating or anything. The food was good but my chicken was very heavy on the breading and my potatoes were not fully cooked as they were still a bit raw to bite through. Additionally my date had gotten a salad that had quite a bit of wilted pieces throughout. read more

I ate there twice. First, I went for dinner with friends. The menu was great. The atmosphere was wonderful. Our varied meals were all delicious. Then, I returned for lunch with my daughter. From start to finish we were there for 2 hours. The menu was small and they weren't flexible with switching out a sauce. The $11 bruschetta appetizer was a meatball cut up on 3 tiny slivers of bread with a little cheese. The pasta wasn't served with bread. When requested, we were told that they don't make bread until dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner but I'd avoid it for lunch. read more

New spot in Morgantown and it is amazing! I went on a Wednesday and the happy hour was "working women Wednesday" which is $5 martinis. A good selection of martinis for those that don't like the classic, a lot of different styles and liquors. The food is delicious but HUGE portions, I would recommend splitting meals especially if getting an appetizer. read more

Very slow service though there were few customers, watery spaghetti sauce, undercooked pasta (not al dente - raw), tortellini served with a giant stuck-together clump and swimming in sauce. Add in sticky floors, no TP in the bathroom, stained menus, cheap silverware, a double highball served in a tiny glass intended for a fine scotch, and no olives in a martini, and you have an utter failure. Had our anniversary date at Marilyn's tonight. It was awesome! The menu has a lot of interesting options and I hope to go back to explore some more. The General Tso's Cauliflower app is great, very flavorful. We had the Vesuvius (bread bowl filled with gnocchi and sausage) and Collossal (bacon wrapped scallops and risotto). Jim and his staff at Marilyn's are top notch! The food is always fresh as can be. My wife got the vodka gnocchi it was absolutely amazing so fresh and perfectly cooked. I've had many different things but more recently I had the burger the meet was so juicy, cheese so melty, bun absolutely toasted to perfection, and lastly drinks were cold! The menu and website look tasteful, inviting you in to think you'll be receiving a top-tier dining experience akin to other nice restaurants in the area. The pasta was extremely over cooked to the point that it might as well have been mashed potatoes. The vodka sauce tasted like it had been mixed with Baby Ray's Barbecue sauce. The scampi was so vile that it should have been illegal to serve it to a customer. Honestly... how does one mess pasta dishes up as badly as Marilyn's? Marilyn's hails a famous, secret recipe "wedding soup." Save yourself the $7 they charge for 2 spoonfuls and just get a miso soup at the China One next door instead. We weren't sure if this place was open. No lights out front, frosted windows and 2 urns full of dirt and cigarettes. We decided to try anyways. We were seated on the outdoor patio, which also had about 5 planter boxes full of dirt, and a beautiful rock fireplace, that was not lit and needed a lot of TLC. Our waitress came over and asked ...do you know what you want? Ummmm, how about a glass of water and some menus? After we got our drinks, we asked a few questions about the menu, and her response was " I don't know we just changed it, so sorrrryyyyy". We ordered, and nothing was better than mediocre. We ordered a salad, minimal dressing. A side of pasta with red sauce...we needed extra sauce for everything...and then, the entrees.. if I'm paying 20-30$ for bagged pasta and a few slices of sausage, it should be in amazing sauce. The chef said that his sauce is the salty water from which the pasta was cooked in. WHAT?? The other was a chicken caprese. It literally had 3 skinny strips of basil in it. Overall, I'd never go back. I make better food at home for under 100$ what a waste of a date night, If you want an authentic italian meal in morgantown, go to Pittsburgh because this, Oliver's, and Puglionis (besides the bread) all are a waste of money. read more

We had such a wonderful time and were glad to get into a restaurant again. We were early before our reserved time and the hostess kept apologizing that our table wasn't ready. It was absolutely no problem as we were early plus we were waiting on another person in our party. But it was a nice gesture. We tried the dipping plate and it was fantastic.
