Love this adorable spot! Jane, one of the two co-owners, is super welcoming and enjoyable to talk to. A friend of mine was hosting a dance event there (which was super successful!) and Ganesha was an ideal location for it. Yay yoga and meditation! read more

Very approachable yoga studio for all kinds of bodies. Lots of options for people recovering from injuries or with mobility challenges. I went for in-person classes (during Covid, and masks were required), but they also offer remote and recorded classes online. Their space is welcoming and comfortable. I found the classes helpful for easing into more flexibility and activity while recovering from a herniated disc, when I was unable to handle more intensive yoga. read more

Let me preface this review with a bit of background on myself. I'm a big girl. "Curvy" as some say. And I am years separated from exercise. With that being said, I found myself wanting to reconnect with my body and take better care of it-- enter yoga. Being new to Chicago, I didn't have much to go from by way of finding a studio. I tried a few out but didn't feel a connection. I needed something special to support and encourage my practice. I came to the Beginner's class at Ganesha and immediately felt a pull. I am now a monthly member :) Here is a short list of things I LOVE about Ganesha: -Newbie friendly -Clean -Small classes -Encouragement -No judgement -Honest, real, compassionate teachers -They sell plus size yoga clothes -THEY CARE ABOUT YOU I can't recommend Ganesha enough. read more

I took a Bollywood dance class here and was so impressed with both the class and the space in which it was held! When I walked in, I immediately felt an incredible sense of calm and peace. Everything was clearly chosen with the utmost care, from the colors to the decor to the soap in the bathroom (it was coconut ginger or something... I remember thinking "this smells appropriately calming and fresh" and I could just picture someone choosing that scent specifically). Importantly, it didn't have that generic, corporate chain yoga feeling - the colors and decor were unique, bright and personable and I felt like I knew a little bit about the owners of the studio based on this. The woman who greeted me (may have been one of the owners) was incredibly friendly and showed me around. When she asked if I had water and noted that I definitely would need some, I was getting ready for the typical "we have water avialable for $2" mini-sales-pitch you get at other yoga studios. Instead, I got a free promotional water bottle, which she rinsed and filled up for me while I changed (now that's service!). When I left, she took the time to ask me how the class went and when I complimented the studio's space, she seemed genuinely appreciative. The Bollywood class is run by Bollywood Groove (they rent space from Genesha Yoga) so I'll review the class on their page - but it was great! I'm eager to try more classes at Genesha since my experience there was so wonderful. I haven't been to yoga in a good eight months or so because I was tired of feeling like I didn't "fit in" with a particular studio's clinetele (I've tried the hard-core-tree-hugger-contortionist studio, the new-moms-with-money studio, and the Lincoln-Park-sorority-type studio, none of which quite suited me). At the bollywood class at Genesha, I felt completely welcomed and surrounded by a true variety of people looking to do nothing more than have fun and sweat - I can't imagine it would be any different at their other classes. I'll be back! read more

I first visited Ganesha Yoga a month ago to attend one of the free dance classes, and I was very pleased with my visit. The staff was very courteous and the sales floor was well organized. They directed me to the dance studio in the back. The class was directed by Cassandra Sun Owl Dara-Abrams. She is an excellent dance teacher. I was born with flat feet and not the best sense of rhythm, and not once did I feel overwhelmed or embarrassed. Cassandra made the class fun and energetic. I would definitely return, and even refer my friends, if Ganesha continues to provide dance classes with instructors like Cassandra. read more

I've got a yoga package and so am filling in my workouts with a weekly yoga but have issues with my right hip. Took a basic yoga with Elizabeth and today I feel renewed. THANK YOU GANESHA. read more

I love Ganesha, and honestly I don't go there as often as I should. The studio and the students are so welcoming, so fun, and so chill. I have never felt out of place there, never felt outside my element, and never felt less than completely welcome. Whether you've been doing yoga your whole life or are just now considering trying it, Ganesha will feel like home. read more

I bought some clothes for my girlfriend bf Christmas and I don't see a reason to not to give five stars. I didn't try the classes but the store looks great. The girls was very nice. An Amy (my GF) liked the gifts i gave her. I'm too lazy to take Yoga. Sorry. :) read more

I love this place! I find my way back here and wonder why I ever left. For the inflexible, non-yoga girl...this is such a gift. Always feel better after a class! read more

They meet their students where they are and as a large woman, it is great to be in a space that is safe and encouraging. Welcoming space with really knowledgeable instructors and practitioners. read more

So thrilled to have found this studio! They have done such a wonderful job with the space to make it very warm and welcoming. The vibrant colors throughout make me smile every time I walk in the door. Broadway Fit at 8:15 on Tuesday and 10:30 on Sunday is a blast. I get a great work out and leave feeling so energized. I also enjoy their active yoga and love that they have 8:15 AM classes...perfect for school morning drop off hours. I hear the Bollywood class is amazing and can't wait to try it. Welcome to the neighborhood Ganesha...hope you stick around for a very long time! read more

Can I give 10 stars? Bottom line: GREAT, friendly staff and a welcoming & inviting (adorable) space. I'm a total newb when it comes to yoga, and have always felt intimidated to attend a class just to embarrass myself. I attended a yoga class at a DIFFERENT studio, and it scared me away from going back. I felt so lost and uncoordinated in the most basic class they offered...with the exception of yoga for kids. I purchased a LivingSocial deal for 10 yoga classes, and just took my first one last night. I felt comfortable as soon as I walked through the door. Mindy was super nice and helpful when deciding on what class I should take. I opted for 90-Minute Yoga instead of Yoga Basics. Jodi was my teacher, and was nothing short of spectacular. She explained the poses very thoroughly and made sure I felt comfortable with them before moving on. She was a subbing this class, but informed me she does workshops and Beatles Yoga on Sunday :) I will definitely be going back and can't wait to try more classes! The Bollywood dance class was going on while I was there and looked like a really fun time! read more

If you're looking for a welcoming yoga studio that embraces all levels of ability, this is your spot. Mindy and Jane have created an atmosphere of kind, nurturing support that is incomparable to any other studio or gym -- and even many churches -- I've ever visited. The folks who take classes here are also amazing. There is a wide variety of classes and instructors to choose from, and all of the instructors take special care to ensure everyone has an incredible experience in their classes, offering modifications and adjustments as needed. I've been a student at Ganesha for over four years, and I know how incredibly lucky this city is to have such an incredible resource. I've never in my life looked forward to doing physical activity, except at this studio. I guarantee you will leave their classes feeling better physically and emotionally. It's amazing. read more

Everyone at Ganesha has helped me ease back into yoga after a long hiatus, aka fell off the wagon again. The Heavyweight Yoga class is amazing. It makes such a difference to be able to come into a welcoming environment where there is no judgement and I can concentrate without being so self-conscious about my size. Whether you are a beginner, or you are looking for a challenge, they will guide you safely through each class. By the time you leave, you will likely have done at least one thing you didn't thing you were capable of doing. read more

After moving to Chicago last year I checked out a couple different yoga studios before finding my yoga home at Ganesha. They are welcoming to all levels, body types, and abilities and host special events and teacher trainings. I've tried about five different classes and every teacher there has been knowledgeable and super friendly. After using up my new student card (10 classes for $59!!) I happily got a regular card. read more

10 STARS! I can't say enough glowing things about Ganesha! My husband and I recently moved to Chicago hoping to leave behind our sedentary suburban lifestyle. We are both over 50 and spent many years at a desk hunched over a computer. We had never tried Yoga and were intimidated to get started. Much to my dismay the first studio I tried was everything I feared...then I found Ganesha. The entire staff is welcoming and non judging! They bend over backwards (pun intended) to make sure you are challenged in a safe way. We started with the Yoga Basics class and have enjoyed it so much and still challenged by it 4 months later. We are hooked, attending class 3x per week. The location is very convenient and the facilities are bright and cheerful. Class times are very accommodating and frequent. Every one of the instructors has been fantastic. I would recommend Ganesha to people of all fitness levels. For newbies, it's a great place to take the first step to all the benefits Yoga offers. read more

AMAZING YOGA STUDIO!!! I've been practicing yoga in Chicago for some years and can honestly say that this is the first yoga studio were I feel at home and part of a community. The owners, Jane and Mindy, as well as ALL of the teachers take their time to get to know you. Practice yoga here and you WILL feel happy and refreshed. read more

My first class was wonderful! I can't wait to go back . I took Jane's class and found it very relaxing and left feeling amazing. Great location! read more

I don't usually write reviews, but my experience at Ganesha Yoga was so terrible, I am motivated to share what I think is a poorly run business. I attended a workshop, which I have done at studios across the country, and was astounded at the price tag for what was essentially a long restorative class. There was no "workshop-ing" poses, and the chakra elements of the class were not included, despite being marketed heavily along with the yin portion. I voiced my frustration to the owner and have never heard from them again. I will not, under any circumstances, return to this studio. There are plenty of amazing ones in the Chicago area who pay attention to the integrity of the yoga and address customer service with a modicum of understanding of basic business principles. Two thumbs down :( read more

This is a fabulous neighborhood studio. The teachers are a blessing and offer a variety of classes for almost every level student. If you want a harder workout, this is not your place. This is stretching and dance moves ('Adventures in Fitness') and very fun. The students are very friendly. You will smile. read more

i've taken 2 zumba classes here and had a great time at both. the music is good and it's a great workout.both times i've taken the sunday afternoon class and never had a problem with parking. i echo the sentiment of the previous reviews about the cute space and welcoming vibe. give ganesha your business! read more

What a wonderful place! Each teacher here is completely unique and they are all fantastic. They excel at making new students comfortable and teaching them how to do yoga properly and without injury but they are also experienced enough that they can teach advanced practitioners some new tricks too. They have a marvelous shop in the front which sells super-cute yoga clothes. read more

I took my first class last night, and have been looking forward to writing this review ever since. I've tried at least 10 different yoga classes through the years, and none of them fit for me. I've taken classes where the goal is to get into complicated poses, with no mention of breathing. I've taken health club yoga classes where the instructor clearly got assigned yoga, like the science teacher who gets assigned to coach the wrestling team. I've taken yoga classes that were so crowded that the teacher couldn't pay attention to individual students. I've taken yoga classes where the teacher says very little, and everyone performs a flowing routine which I obviously didn't know. My point - there's a whole lot of yoga instruction out there, but I couldn't find my niche. All that changed in Mindy's class last night. Her class was everything I knew Yoga could be. She encourages each person to pursue their individual yoga goals - concentration, balance, flexibility, strength, or meditation. After class, it was an easy decision to buy 10 sessions for the amazingly low price of $59 (I believe that is a first-time student discount.) If you feel hesitant about Yoga for any reason, check out their website. Thank you, Mindy, for bringing Yoga to everyone. Namaste :-) read more

I'm a newbie and Mindy and Jane are great. I couldn't ask for a more welcoming and non-judgmental environment to start my yoga practice. I'm a curvy girl and I feel like the explanations the instructors give are fantastic and really get you to focus on your body in the right way. read more

Bought a Groupon for a series of classes at Ganesha and I'm so happy I did. Very down to earth and friendly place. The studios are bright and cheery. The classes I've gone to have been smaller, so I've gotten a little extra attention here and there which is great. Prices are very fair and it is nice that they offer you your first class for free. I only wish there were a few more evening classes during the week so that I could work it into my schedule. I'm moving to the suburbs soon (will still be working in Chicago), but I plan to continue practicing at Ganesha! read more

I love this place!! I take the Saturday afternoon NIA class with Cassandra and it's amazing. I really want to try out the hoola hooping class too. They really do a fantastic job making fitness fun from the great class selection and colorful, vibrant space. I highly recommend you check this place out! read more

I love this studio! In three years of going to yoga places in the city it was one of the only studios that had classes where I felt no pressure to "perform" during the classes. I loved both of Mindy's classes that I attended, she is a thoughtful, mindful instructor who really listens to each person in the class. read more

The Ganesha staff and studio is such a gem to the neighborhood. They are so accommodating and truly want you to feel at home the minute you walk in the door. I highly recommend Dee Dee's Restorative Yoga Class on Sunday nights too. read more
