I started with NextDoor.com to find an upholsterer and time and time, people recommended Coty Upholstery in Tonawanda. Coty referred me to Fabric Warehouse in Lockport to find the perfect fabric. So, I drove out there and a very nice, helpful lady went through the fabrics, explained what was washable, explained the pattern matching. I was very happy with my choice, and now my second hand store find looks vibrant and classic. Hats off to both Fabric Warehouse and Coty Upholstery!

This space is on the side, no Main Street facing storefront. However, once you find it, and park your car (in the large easy spaces they have), you will be thrilled. First, Freddie (Frankie?) will meet you at the door. She's (yes, she, name notwithstanding) a fabulously beautiful dog. Midsize and super friendly. You don't have to be a dog lover to appreciate her. Once inside past her "gate" the space is surprisingly large. Lots of material on display and then a large room in back with all sorts of quilts and quilters. The quilts were on the wall and the quilters at the table. It seemed like a friendly group. The material is displayed mostly by color, but there is a "fun pattern section" too. I was there to pick up a "row by row" pattern for someone. They have them behind the counter waiting to be asked for. If I were a quilter Id come back here for sure. I may come back to get some material for pillows we are making for the outside furniture.

It is a general store in every sense of that concept--they generally have a little bit of everything. Absolutely no food or beverages, not even gum or a soda case. But you'll find a bit of everything else, including ... ** Lots of fabrics, notions, and sewing supplies; bolts of fabric are cut-to-size for whatever length you need ** Cards, stationary, and a small assortment of books (mostly religious) ** Decorative glassware and knick-knacks ** General kitchen items (cookware, utensils, canning supplies) ** Grill and picnic supplies ** A few small electrics, like fans and light strings ** Small clothing section with mostly knits, sweats, and Amish hats ** Candles and candle holders ** Many natural soaps, lotions, and supplements ** Cleaning supplies and household paper products ** Garden and outdoor supplies, and some tools ** Toys and games ** Office supplies ... but definitely not limited to just that, you'll surely find more. Prices are very fair. I needed a couple basic plastic mixing bowls, and grabbed them here for $1.10 a piece. I also got some fly catcher strips for 5/$1, and a fork/whisk hybrid called a Fiskie for about three bucks. I'm eyeing a nice Chinese Checkers metal tin set, that was about $11. Next time, it will be mine! Attached to this same building is Lake Breeze Bicycle, a small bicycle shop in the basement of the general store, with its own separate entrance out back. I'll write a review for that portion of the business separately, but as a sneak-peek, it's a handy, well-priced store too. During COVID times, all other customers were masked and doing our best to stay distanced in the small store. The Amish women I've seen working at the register and fabric cutting area have been masked, too. It appreciate, even way out here in the sticks, folks still doing their part to help end this pandemic. If you find yourself in this part of Orleans county, and either want to browse for nothing in particular, or look for something in particular, chances are you may find it here at J C Miller General Store. And it will likely be a good deal!

So, I ordered some aprons & perused embroidery shops in the area. I called a few places & kept coming up short, because it was such a small order I was asking for. Most embroidery shops only do 12+, bulk buys, so I wasn't expecting anyone to be able to execute what I was asking for. Until I called Stitch Witchery. They got me in that day, gave sound expertise on what would look best color/print-wise on my gift (I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff), & treated me as well as they would've any other customer, no matter how small my order was. Kevin & Darlene have been at this business for about 40 years, and it shows. They handle their business with tact, professionalism, & a down-to-earth feel. It was a pleasure to meet them & have them in my corner in creating this gift. My friends are going to love these! Now, I need to find some more items to get embroidered just so I can have an excuse to pop into Stitch Witchery again.
