The Ponytail Palms Studio - Long, blended layers

I asked for more blending of my top, heavy layer, to go back to the long, layered haircut I…read morepreviously had, shown in pics below that I showed Ariel. Ariel cut four inches off my hair and cut short, choppy layers into my hair. I also showed her pictures of my hair with plenty of contrast with my natural hair. She left my hair generally with a diffuse, all over blonde, even blonding my lowest layer of hair, which clearly was left natural in my pictures. When she started, I told her the backcombing/teasy highlighting method she was using repeatedly had not worked for me hair. She said it was the only method she knows to blonde hair, and, unsurprisingly, it again produced results I don't like. At the end, Ariel left my hair short, choppy and frizzy and bullied me by telling me that she just thinks I'm going to have a hard time finding a stylist. If she only knows one method of blonding hair, and thinks that the haircut pictured below, is the same as the blended, long layers I showed her in my pictures, I believe she needs significantly more education to justify the prices she's charging (nearly $500 for the one blonding technique she knows and cutting off years of my hair growth into an unflattering cut I'm now stuck with). Please note that, instead of taking accountability and addressing my issue directly with me, the owner decided to have affiliates post a bunch of "positive reviews." Says everything to me about how much she cares about customer satisfaction.

I showed up with SUPER duper long grown out hair but she was meticulous and fast in getting me sat in the chair, layers cut for days, and even asked if I wanted to lighten up the thickness of my hair. It feels so healthy and refreshed since it's been some time I've sat down for a hair cut. And the fact that it's a reasonable haircut and right by my house in NW Austin/Cedar Park proximity, I love everything about her, the zen. She can talk to you or you can keep it low energy to recharge as she was playing the great British bake off for me and it was absolutely divine to just have peace and quiet for my hair goals on NYE! I can't wait to return and see her again, she has my loyalty and love! Thank you for a wonderful haircut Hanna!

Hannah was different from the outset she listened to what I wanted to achieve and gave her honest feedback as to whether that style would look as pictured or whether it would be a high maintenance hairstyle. I trusted her opinion and went with more layers to give my hair some movement and I have to say I am beyond pleased. Not only is Hannah down-to-earth but her prices can't be beat also her private salon space is clean and tidy. If you are looking for an experienced hairstylist who listens to you and executes precisely then search no further than Hannah!

I used to go to the other Korean hairdressers but she wasn't available that day. She was really good. I called before I walked in yesterday to make sure if they accept walk in and they available so I went there. I didn't have to wait they were nice she asked me if I like it a couple times but tbh I couldn't see because it far and i wasn't wearing my glasses. I got my hair washed quick. I showed her the VIDEO of what I want and she ok with it. Long story short I didn't like my hair but I don't want to tell them (my fault too, it kind of because they were so nice so I feel bad for them) but it really bothers me and disappointed. I barely get my hair cut here in the states because I'm scared things like this will happen. It was $65 and I tipped her as well.

Just to preface -- I speak pretty good Korean and have very stereotypical Asian hair (dark, stick…read morestraight), which is definitely a plus for this kind of salon with a largely East Asian customer base, and definitely helps with communication. If you have different needs, or a drastically different hairstyle/hair type, I would recommend finding a salon that suits your needs better because obviously Asian people cut Asian hair well. All said, I loved being there. It felt like the Korean salons back at home (I'm from Chicago) but a large amount cleaner and way better organized. I had a great and super fun conversation with my stylist Younie and she did an excellent job with my hair, cut off no more and no less than what I wanted and she gained a customer for as long as I'm in the Austin area. If you're looking for a Korean salon and know exactly what you want, I highly recommend this business. Extra recommendation if you have Asian hair.

Really horrible first/last experience. I told Wendy numerous times I did not want my hair shorter…read morethan my shoulders, but I wanted dead ends cut off. Period, end of story. Not over the shoulders. I wear my hair up a lot. Admittedly, my hair was fried but the thing to do would be to get to where you can and have a conversation before continuing if it's going to not be what the customer wants. This didn't happen. She very easily could have cut 2 inches and said we should take more off - is that ok? Nope. Instead, she cut off a good 5-6 inches of my hair without saying a word. When I saw how much she cut off I freaked out a little and she just said "sorry". Half my head was already cut. She kept going. I went with it because at this point, what am I going to do? Leave with my left side 5 inches shorter than my right and still have to have it evened out somewhere else? Walk around like a crazy person until I can get an appt? I gave the benefit of the doubt, let her finish (like what choice did I have?) - even went so far as to pay cash and left a 20% tip bc she shared some personal things with me which made me feel bad for her, not because she did a good job. It's been a couple of days and I just washed & styled my hair as I normally do and it's just a mess. It's shorter than my shoulders and frizzy as heck. I contacted her to let her know I was unhappy and ask for a partial refund. She told me no refunds while repeatedly admitted she needs to work on her listening skills (as a hairdresser???). She also proceeded to insult me personally, tell me it would grow out, blah blah blah. So here's the lesson - treat your customers with a modicum of respect. I wasn't going to post a bad review until she started telling me my hair was the problem and not her lack of attention. I've had literally 30+ curly cuts from other stylists and never had this issue before, so this isn't just me being difficult to please. This is a hairdresser simply not listening to the customer and then being obstinate and insulting on top of it...despite admitting they weren't listening. Heck no. I look like a Q-tip.

I previously got a cold perm with Heeja 2-3 years ago. Not any issue of note other than I wasn't a fan of the cut she did so decided to go to another salon for the following perm. I decided to give Heeja another shot and booked an appointment for a Digital Perm online with a starting price of $200. HUGE MISTAKE! Not only did I wait 40+ minutes for her to finish her previous appointment-- she told me due to the length of my hair the price has gone up to a whopping $690!! I have gotten many perms before, and adjusted price for length is not a surprise but more than 3x the original price is insanity. (We also agreed that she'd trim off dead hair so that the length would be just below my chest.) The false advertisement felt dishonest and scammy. I told her I was not comfortable moving forward as that is out of my budget. She said if I didn't want to do anything the "system" would still charge me $100. After a bit of back and forth we decided to do a cold perm for $250. I have gotten multiple cold perms, including the previous one from her. I told her as long as it's not super tight spiral curls I'm flexible. As long as it had volume, especially at the top, I didn't mind if it was curly or wavy. In the end my hair is exactly the same, if not straighter. There is a clear line of my natural straight hair growth and my old perm. There is no consistency from top to bottom. My hair is flat and straight at the top. She even said she did tighter curls on the bottom half and that hair is nearly completely straight. I waited over a year and a half to get a perm as I've been diligently applying products to make it healthier. Now my hair is drier, frizzier, damaged from the chemical treatment and I didn't even get any results! She tried to gaslight me and say that I got what I asked for. The pictures speak for themselves. Everyone I know says I don't look like I got anything done. It's one thing for the result not to come out as intended, it's a whole other thing to not take accountability and admit a mistake. Photos in black top are after appointment. Photo in gray is before appointment. Disappointment is an understatement!

The final result looked like something I could have done myself with a pair of craft scissors . I specifically asked to trim the sideburn area, but she said it would be hard to manage afterward, so she didn't touch it at all. Now, not only can I not comb the side hair properly, but even the back doesn't fall into place anymore. And to top it off, the price was even higher than other salons I've been to. Maybe I just don't get the "artistry," but I truly don't see what I paid extra for. It's kind of funny in hindsight, but definitely not an experience I'd want to repeat.
