The ambiance and staff were amazing and the waitress was the kindest person you could find, however the food was super bland and tasted like a Taco Bell. It didn't taste anything like an authentic Mexican cuisine, and was quite disappointed in that way. But again the staff was super amazing and the place had a great vibe to it. read more

FIRST AND LAST TIME HERE! Came from Illinois for work and the service was HORRIBLE! Food was average but the service from this extremely rude waiter will be the reason we wont be back. Did i mention my husband and I both got gravely ill from it. Heath dept needs to check this place read more

My husband and I both got sick from their food. It happened once before but we thought we had a virus, but once again. The chimichanga I ordered was wet and soggy and for 22.50 , took it home and threw it away. Not going back. The bill for 2 was almost $110. Just not worth the price for bad food. The toilet in the women's bathroom sprays water everywhere after you flush. Not a good sign of hygiene at all over there. Salt shaker was so gross, I had to use hand sanitizer constantly. read more

We took my mom here for her 50th and she LOVED IT!!! Very expensive but worth it!!! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great!!!!

Our party of 4 was promptly seated at a table for 4 (as I had previously reserved). We ordered two Margaritas, one Golden Margarita, and one Sangria, which were absolutely DELICIOUS! We ordered enchiladas suizas, 2 flautas, enchiladas de carne asada. The orders came w/your choice of either salad (very crispy lettuce) and/or their excellent bean soup. Our waitress, Karina, was top knotch! We were super happy with the singing of Happy Birthday , by the waiters, to one of our friends and the big Mexican sombrero placed on her head! Before we left, the birthday girl got a little dessert with a candle and a shot of, I think, creme de mente. A place like this, with FREE PARKING, and really great food, drinks, and service, is a gem! For sure we'll be back! read more

Went in with family expecting something great. Raw chicken, bland tacos no flavor at all. Good service though but overall wouldn't eat again. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE MARIAS! Margaritas are the best and the fajitas are top tier! We've order a few different things and everything is so tasty!

Carlos is awesome!!! Food was amazing!! Margaritas were delicious! From Indianapolis, would recommend to anyone visiting the area!

It was pretty crappy plastic margarita glasses don't help food is never any good I haven't been there in 15 years it might be 15 more years or longer till I go back read more

OMG! Where do I begin? Where has this restaurant been all my life? I've passed it on more than 10 occasions and can't believe that this week is the first time I've heard of it. Margaritas are good and strong AF!!!! I mean like only 1 is needed to get you straight TIPSY!!! I ordered the Mango premium margarita with casamigo tequila and when I tell you I was feeling good by sip #5!! Was here for a bday dinner so it was about 15 of us as everyone was so satisfied with the food and drinks. For dinner I ordered the chicken fajitas and my husband ordered the shrimp tacos. Both entrees were delicious and came with enough to take home. Service was great and our waiter tended to all our needs. This place is great for group. Price point is so affordable. Group of over 15 people and the total bill was like $600 which was a steal!! I can't wait until someone else has a bday and we all can come back here again because I'm ready like Freddy! read more

Maria's is old reliable. The food and drinks are always great. Price point more then your typical taco joint but this is dinner style so your given chips and salsa then salad or soup before your main entree and all dinners come with rice and beans so not to bad. Great spot. read more

Love the food, Restaurant was packed, my beef is the waiter sat down with a family that he knew and ignored us, and we were trying to get/pay our bill and leave. It took about 35 minutes to get the waiter's attention. Not happy. read more

Maria Maria! WHat a treat! I came in for something to eat! The meat was grilled, and the flavor had me thrilled. The Guacamole order was huge. I think it was big enough for 6 people! The staff is very friendly, and the place is spacious. Being on the edge of town, of course there is a large parking lot. The biz has been here for many years, and the staff appears to be long time employees as well. Overall, the food was a solid 3.5 read more

Best Mexican in town. Try the freshy margarita! The newly remodeled bar at the Harlem location is great for ball games too.

The food is fine for the most part. A variety of options, and the seafood dishes I have had there have been alright. The carne asada tastes a little like breakfast sausage. Portions are typically hefty. The drinks are good, from the margaritas to the beers. The service from the wait staff is usually excellent. They are friendly and knowledgeable about menu options. Recently my partner was treated rudely by the hostess at the front, making the experience there that night sour at the start. Wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, especially with the long wait times experienced on weekends. read more

I've been going to Maria's for many years over 20+! The original was on River road and there was nothing like their skirt skeak dinner and Crispy tortilla cheese bowl gaming with flavors !! If I could give 6 stars I would. From the host to the waitstaff, the bartenders, to the owner, they care about your experience and service. I took my wife for her birthday and we ordered from the bar and received top notch service. Food was as expected but I encourage ordering the specials. We were blown away by the seafood at a Mexican restaurant. Compliments to the chef. Margaritas didn't hurt but we did step them up with Patron. Go here. You won't be disappointed. read more

CONTIGO (WITH YOU) Share a pitcher of strong margaritas with your gf/bf/bestie at this awesome Mexican restaurant in the Galewood neighborhood. I've driven past Maria's countless times over the years, though it wasn't until Nichole C entered the picture that I ate here. We've had dinner twice, both experiences were lovely from a food and service standpoint. Most recently, we stopped in on a Tuesday evening when they feature pitchers of top-shelf margaritas for $20. What makes them "top shelf"? I asked the same question and discovered they used 1800 tequila (instead of the usual generic stuff) PLUS a fair amount of Grand Marnier mixed in. I thought the house pitcher we had the first time here was strong......I stand corrected. Actually, I could barely stand at all. That $20 pitcher of high-end margarita got us both PROPER f*cked up. Though I attempted to take photos, as the evening went on they became worse and worse. By the time dessert came (a $4.50 Mexican flan), the picture was nothing more than a fuzzy blur. The next day, Nichole C didn't recall eating the whole thing and still denies it 100%. The guacamole ($7) was great and came in a spiffy bowl. All entrees include soup; the 'sopa de pollo' was very tasty. The red salsa that comes with the complimentary house chips is excellent. Her combo plate ($16) was comprised of 1 taco, 1 tostada, 1 enchilada, and 1 tamale, all delightful. My 'enchiladas de mole' ($15) were TERRIFIC. I don't normally go for mole, but I had a good feeling about Maria's. The trio of chicken enchi's came smothered in cheese, with a hearty dollop of sour cream and a very flavorful, not-sweet chocolate sauce. Definitely getting this again. Bread = 5 Circuses = 4.5 The restrooms were clean and I absolutely loved the Aztec-inspired mural on the north wall of the dining room. Service has been great on both trips here, and I'm confident we'd receive the same attentiveness on any future visit. * TL;DR * Located on Harlem Ave just east of Elmwood Park, this is a really solid choice for Mexican food. The interior decor is enchanting and the strength of drinks is not to be underestimated. That $20 pitcher tho......Lord have mercy! Maria's faces some tough competition in Maya del Sol, as well as the aptly named Margaritas (both in Oak Park). Along with Alejandra's in Melrose Park and Mi Hacienda in Darien, I'd happily recommend these guys. read more

After the funeral yesterday an announcement was made to go to Maria's Mexican Restaurant for the post funeral lunch. We arrived at 1pm at Maria's only to find they weren't open. I looked at the Yelp page for this restaurant and found they didn't open until 4pm. Little did I know arrangements had been made to open at 2pm for our group of about 30. It seems like Maria's has a preprinted menu for large groups. Like most Mexican restaurants they give you salsa and chips asThe salsa had a little heat (spiciness). The salsa was pretty good. On the preprinted menu they offer an APPETIZER PLATE * Cheese Quesadillas * Mini Beef Flautas * Tortilla Chips W/beans & melted cheese * Guacamole & Sour Cream in a Tortilla Shell Choice of Salad or Bean Soup or Vegetable Soup ENTREE SELECTIONS * Tacos - Steak, Beef or Chicken (hard or soft shell) * Enchiladas - Steak, Beef or Chicken * Burrito - Steak, Beef or Chicken All the entrees come w/the standard Beans & Rice Started w/the chips & salsa. The appetizer dish was huge and they brought out platters for each table. The larger groups of 8 got 2 platters. I had to take my sister to the train as she had to head back up to Vernon Hills for work. When I came back my wife was at a table by herself so we got 1 tray for the 2 of us. This was a meal in itself by the time we got done with the bean soup and the appetizer I said NO MAS!!! My wife ordered 3 steak tacos with a soft corn shell. I must admit they were better then my Enchiladas. I got 1 steak and 2 chicken enchiladas cut off the tip to sample it and took the rest home. The portions were HUGE (Ginormous) so I had a meal for the next day. The steak tacos were pretty tasty. I liked the tacos better then the enchiladas. The bean soup ehh nothing to write home about. It was very bland with almost no flavor (bummer). They also have us a ball of fried ice cream that was tasty The waiters were very good, but the bus boy sucked. I asked him 3x's for water as he just ignored me and walked away, so I ended up getting it myself. The food was just ok, but the portions were enormous. Too many good Mexican restaurants for me to spend the time going back to Maria's sorry to say read more

Visited Maria's on Harlem around 6 pm today (Thursday). The inside has been rehabbed and has a more open flow to it. It looks very nice, but it is too dark to see the menu. I had to use my phone flashlight to order. Our server was attentive and nice. They were not quite at half capacity. We all (5 of us) really liked our entrees, which were large. The margaritas were also really good. I will definitely visit again...just turn up the lights a little! read more

We came here on a busy Sunday night and was fortunate to find a table right away. Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a rush just a little hungry, so no biggie. Customer service was great and welcoming. I ordered there Tampiquena, a charbroiled arrachera (skirt steak) with a cheese enchilada, pico de Gallo, guacamole, rice and beans. It was a perfectly grilled steak but did lack some flavors. The rice and beans were tasty as was the enchilada. It also came with a complimentary cup of chicken soup. All for $27. Overall it wasn't a bad dining experience but it was a little bit on the pricey side. Especially, when you compare it to a Frontera Grill, where you can order something similar for only few dollars more and also get an amazing experience and flavors, it's hard to say Id come back anytime soon. read more

I came here tonight to eat with my family and our experience was very pleasant! It's been ages since I had decent Mexican food--living out of the country and all--but no joke I was overwhelmed with the many options on the menu so I settled with the combination platter (one of everything!). This was the best option by far as I was able to enjoy a taco, enchilada, tamale, and tostada on one plate. I ordered the house margarita to complement my meal, and let's put it this way--they were very generous with the tequila. By the second margarita I was seeing double which wasn't a bad thing! There is an outdoor patio which would be perfect for warmer weather and I may take the opportunity to dine out there one way as I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Elmwood. read more

Favorite neighborhood place to go for Mexican! Great atmosphere and food is always delicious. Had the nachos and a Passionfruit margarita (sour and refreshing ...almost grapefruit-like) to start then we had steak mole enchiladas (sorry, had to taste it first- lol) and chicken verde enchiladas. Everything was ON POINT. However, we were charged twice for the drink - so pay attention to your bill. (We were given the cash back, but only after we were taxed and tipped on wrong total. Didn't make a stink, but will check check more thoroughly next time ;-) Great place to go on a date or even for apps and drinks! read more

I ate there on Friday evening with Galewood Stock we had plenty food and delicious the service was fantastic also, despite it being so busy.

Good food. But OVER PRICE . In my personal opinion this is not %100 Mexican food, is more Mexican made for Americans food . Good service

To start, our server, who even though he was polite and attentive was not wearing a mask. When I reminded him that we're all supposed to wear masks indoors in the city of Chicago he said not here, it's an option. Every other employee that I observed were all wearing a mask. Next was my food. I ordered a skirt steak meal. I couldn't finish because it was so stringy and chewy. The guacamole was plentiful but very bland. Lastly, their "premium margarita" had some type of margarita mix in it making it uneventful and not premium at all. We won't visit there again. One compliment, their salsa that they serve with chips is the delicious and the best table salsa I've ever had. read more
