We came here for lunch coming back from Oak Park and El Alegre did not disappoint. My dad and I both had the burrito dinner with chicken. My burrito was packed with meat and everything was delish!! The two young ladies working there were very nice and are doing a great job! If I'm ever in the area again, I would come back here! I might even make a special trip just to come here again! read more

Slow service, average tacos. Taco restaurants are a dime a dozen unfortunately El Alegre Burrito does nothing to standout in an otherwise crowded field. Stiff competition w/all the other restaurants. They're a decent taco but nothing that would bring me back again. read more

Had my car fixed at a nearby shop and wanted to grab some lunch while waiting. Came here and it was good. Ordered taco dinner asada and food was good. I love the location. Its at the very intersection of harlem avenue and grand. With rail road and traffic light stop. Great view to watch while eating your food. I stayed for two hours here and never got bored coz of the busy alley and street. read more

Food is great, but $3.00 for a can of soda! A little too steep if you ask me. I know times are hard, but that's an outrageous charge. read more

Stopped in for burritos. Nice size and great taste. Green salsa is spicy! Service is good, too. read more

I ordered some cheese fries very simple order from the first glance. They look amazing the cheese is a nacho cheese. The cheese is fine but the food in general was not fully cooked. I truly feel that they will make somebody sick. Then when I called, he furthermore tried to, tell me that I was wrong. The customer service was horrible. I don't want anyone to get sick. Please check your food I mean bite it before you dry off. read more

Service are good but the food honestly is garbage not good my opinion is American restaurant trying to be a Mexican the tortilla la carne nada estaba rico ni la salsa tenía sabor read more

Very average overall. I had the house burrito with steak and churriso. It came out nice and seared shut which is much better than tbk. The steak was good not great and the churriso was greasy even for churriso. The green salsa was hitter than the red. Both salsas were good. I would come back and try the tacos or flaunts just to see. Not really worth the trip with better Mexican food just north. read more

Ordered the chilaquiles verde. It was delicious! The burritos and tacos here are very solid too. read more

We like their tacos and their green guacamole salsa is over the top spicy and flavorful. They need to put some love in the beans and rice because both has no flavor ay just looks like food read more

Amazing! I lived in elmwood for a while now just now got to try out this place. It was amazing. In my opinion it beats taco burrito king. Their king burritos are HUGE! The chips are great tasting too. Overall I'm happy read more

Food Is Decent For Their Price. It Is A Hit or miss answer the rice could definitely be better.

Busy intersection to visit but there's a drive thru, so not as bad as it looks. Figured I check out the neighborhood joint and while it wasn't the best food (porn tamale was kind of soggy), I could see myself returning. The menus listed as out of date. This is #6 taco dinner $9.49 & $2.55 for tamale. read more

El Alegre Burrito - Steak tacos with onions and cilantro with salsa verde. Pork tamale - Mexican Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Burrito mania continues as today, I jumped the border...of Elmwood Park into the 773. I've passed this place many times, and may have actually been here when I was in high school. But my recollection of those days are all so foggy, so I decided to refresh my memory. The outside of this place looks kind of shotty, but I'm used to that when it comes to taquerias. In fact, I prefer it. For some reason, it usually means the food is good. They have a simple menu which is numbered. Of course, I ordered the #9, a steak burrito dinner. I was not expecting to get free chips and salsa since it has more of a fast food feel to it, but sure enough, the kind lady came from around the counter & gave me a basket of chips and a cup of red salsa. The chips are exactly the kind I like: thin and crispy, with just the right amount of salt. The salsa, however, was the low point of the meal. A bit watery, & not much spice whatsoever. It didn't taste bad, but was definitely mediocrity in a cup. The burrito was nice and big. The meat inside was steaming hot, and the cheese was melted nicely. They didn't over-do it with the sour cream, which I'm glad about. The rice was pretty flavorful despite there not being any vegetables in it. The beans were pretty good. All in all, a pretty solid burrito. Probably wont make the burrito hall of fame, but hits the spot when you're nearby and craving Mexican food. read more

El Alegre Burrito is a Mexican restaurant(they do serve "American" foods also) that does the basics very well. The building is an old hot dog/hamburger joint, and they've done almost nothing to change the place in almost 20 years. But don't let the looks of the place frighten you; they make very good food. It's simple. It's basic. It's delicious. And the service is quick. Sit and watch Univision and Telemundo programming while you wait for carry-out, or while you dine-in; "Sabado Gigante" with Don Francisco on a Saturday night...Nice. They do have a drive-thru, and a small parking lot. And metered parking is available on the street. read more

The horchata was pretty good. The steak tacos were mediocre. They were greasy. The rice and beans were ok. Overall the taste wasn't the worst but not the best either. The food was ready in about 5 minutes which I thought was too quick. read more

Soooooo enjoyed my lunch today. Had the lent special of chili relleno, onion jalapeno gordita with rice and beans. Every thing was incredibly good. I walked 4 blocks and my food was still hot. The customer service was great as the cashier was patient with me because I couldnt decide what I wanted. DEFINITELY going back. Super cozy simple little neighborhood place. The salsas could be spicier but I like super spicy . Loved it. read more

I was craving seafood over the weekend and was very impressed when I tried the mojarra frita. It was well cooked and tasty. They also have very good tacos, tortas and flautas. So I always order gorditas from this place in the past, and recently I ordered them. Well the gorditas are not Gorditas anymore the masa got so thinned out that the good taste is no longer there and no more of the special salsa they always put on them. Wow is that their way of saving money, to change the taste of a good recipe just to save a few cents. Bad business decision. No longer will I order here. By the way, I was a regular costumer. read more

This is truly my go to place for fast Mexican when i'm in no mood to think about what I want for dinner. Staff is consistently efficient, food has been pretty good the last few times I've been here. and seriously the place isn't cute by any means but I have never seen anything disgusting or any bugs (trust me, I would not continue to go here). Don't go out of your way but don't avoid this place if you're in the area. read more

Pretty average place. Average food. Average prices. Average service. Average dining room. Parking was easy though. Probably won't come back anytime soon but will eventually return. read more

I moved into the neighborhood and thought I should check it out. I went through the drive-thru so I can't tell you what it looks like on the inside. They serve American-ish food too. I ordered the gyro and cheese fries. It was hot and smelled great. The cheese on the fries seemed to not exactly taste that good, but I just thought it was their version of cheese fries. Not sure if it was the cheese, but just a few hours later, not have eaten anything else, I got sick. Unfortunately, I will not be going here again, and driving by it actually makes me kinda queasy. I really wished it wouldn't have made me sick because it is close to me. Oh well. read more

I've been at this place quite a few times. It's quick and easy. I don't know how you like your Mexican food but it seems they put salsa right in burritos. Pros: Fast service Good price Drive thru Cons: I wouldn't recommend eating in. The place is grimy - shabby at best, but heh, it's a fast food joint. Never seem to have avocados read more

tasty, but not authentic. Although they have a big sign that says 'authentic Mexican food' I would not agree. the tacos are served with cheese & lettuce instead of onions and cilantro. Their hot sauce is very mild. Still it is flavorful and they do not skimp on the meat read more

I go here about once a week, since I live really close. They offer a pretty big menu of great tasting food. I get burritos there often, but have tried the fajitas and enchiladas.
