This restaurant has been a round while in Freeport, but since it's a little out of our way, when I do visit home (Clute) I don't go there often when I visit. In fact, it's been several years since I've been there. After our long road trip we woke up the next morning and came here for breakfast. My dad and brothers come here regularly because they live in the Richwood and Lake Jackson area, and like the food. My dad especially likes the green sauce. Our waitress was extremely kind and took our orders quickly, filled our coffee regularly, and made sure we had more than enough green sauce for our food. The food came out quickly and was very good. I ordered the Hippo in a bowl (no tortilla). Very tasty, and the green sauce was just the right amount of heat to it. It's a very clean restaurant with plenty of seating, and I would highly recommend it. read more

Amazing food! Great place to go for local flavor and ambiance - it exemplifies the best of Freeport. Friendly people, amazing non-pretentious food made from scratch, and CLEAN! Corn and flour tortillas made from scratch, the best fajitas in the area (according to my friend-I can't tear myself away from the carne guisada.) Guacamole full of hunks of avocado perfectly seasoned instead of a sad store-bought purée. The only thing I can't recommend is the queso; the flavor is fine but it's thin. I've loved their breakfast tacos for years, and my husband swears by the barbacoa and enchiladas. Chips and salsa have nice spice and kick! I've never regretted a calorie spent on the food here, and intend to continue drive over on a regular basis. read more

This is another Freeport gem! The food is fresh cooked to order and just delicious. My favorite are the tacos jalisco although the chicken quesadilla was delicious as well. I agree with another reviewer the chips can be a little stale tasting from time to time. Overall the restaurant has a damp stale smell whrn you first walk in like there was water damage that may have occurred during the last few storms we had. First time here on a Friday night and it was fairly busy with a lot of plant workers getting off work coming to eat between 530-6. We had a trainee waitress who did a good job considering how busy the place was and it was her first night. The permanent waitress was super busy with cashier, to go orders & also her own tables. Considering the situation they both did a good job. Management needs to look at better training situation though. The food was good, I had chicken fajitas and the chicken was a little chewy and my dh had enchiladas verdes which were good. The hot sauce tasted like tomato sauce with peppers in it. I first discovered Maria's when she had the smaller place and loved it! I grew up with authentic Mexican food and this is one place that knows how to make it! Their tortillas are cooked right and aren't fat and white like many other places I've been to. The beans are the best, with the perfect flavor! Everything I've had is good--breakfast tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, etc. They get super busy during lunch, so you might have to wait a little longer. Best to go when you have time OR order ahead. Love the food and I'll be back as often as I can!! This is the only place in Freeport that has good, authentic Mexican. Took 20 mins to get drinks from when we first sat down. Then, all the fountain drinks were disgusting and watered down. The tea and coffee was watered down also. We asked for chips and salsa 3 different times in-between swapping out drink. I had to get up, go to the kitchen and remind the waiter. Talk about frustrating... Aside from a few charred tortillas, the food was good. Everyone in our party of 5 really enjoyed the food. If only the service was better... Had a chicken fajita taco from here and it was nothing special, just a soggy, old chicken taco with little seasoning. You might as well go to Taco Bell for more warm, better tasting, authentic Mexican food. Now what really out the cherry on top was this MOLDY chocolate muffin. Went to Maria ' s for lunch during a business class. It took 45 minutes to get food and most everyone ordered the "special". Over an hour from sit down to food. The server was doing her best but she was also washing dishes, bussing tables, and trying to keep the wheels on the wagon. The food actually tasted pretty good, but it took WAY too long. When I first ordered breakfast, it was perfect. Freshly cooked and I went and told all my coworkers about the restaurant. I'm not sure what has changed but the food is horrible now. About a month ago I ordered breakfast and it was so salty I had to throw it out. Today I ordered a breakfast taco and it was so dry and old it was disgusting. Well they will not get a 3rd time to have me waste my money and time. I'm done. I've never really liked their lunch but now I'm totally done. Why would you serve a customer something that is so dried out, old and disgusting looking even if it is a to go order. Not only that,I ordered a side of pappas and they cold. Yep, I'm done.
