My favorite spot in Durango! I could browse half the day in here. I love how the shop is curated. The books are categorized by interest and it makes for easy browsing. I love the staff picks! I choose a few of them. It helps when you want to read something you normally wouldn't select. The books are priced comparable to big box stores. They have a wide selection and other fun things to purchase.

This is an amazing little bookshop in a really cool town. This was my first visit to Durango as a whole, and I really loved the vibe of this town. It had a very laid back, liberal, Colorado feel, and Maria's was no different. This is a cozy little shop right on the main drag, stocked with best sellers, local authors, toys and gifts. For a small store, they make up the difference with floor to ceiling shelves, and the staff use sliding ladders to reach the high books, which fulfilled all of my Beauty and the Beast library fantasies. In the summers, they host some local author signings on the street. Staff was super friendly and helpful, and you can tell everyone there loves books!

Not often you find a great horror section, I want to buy them all

Nice location, great inventory, awesome staff, you can't go wrong with Maria's! I picked up an Octavia Butler novel. A true local gem

If you are in Durango you can't leave until you check this bookstore out! Such a diverse selection of books, fun toys, unique finds, and curiosities. Reasonably priced and such a friendly staff. Very helpful. Ended up buying more books then I had planned and I'm ok with that.

Cute little wooden floor place in Durango along the main street. I liked looking at the puzzles and the little nooks toward the back of the store. Everywhere you look you're eyes are on overload. So many things to take in. They have things for kids and adults from books, to puzzles to games and souvenirs. Good place to drop in and browse for something you don't need, but want to buy anyway. "Check it out", haha, get it?

I can't begin to say enough positive and loving things about this store, and its wonderful owner…read moreDorothy (hence the name!). I have been buying books here for years, and have never found a better selection of tomes about spirituality, consciousness, awareness, astronomy, and other "New Agey" topics in a store this small, anywhere. At first glance it seems like a typical little crystal/bookstore place, but closer examination reveals a surprisingly solid selection of some of the classic spiritual texts, often used, and at truly fair prices. I have found some of the best books I have ever encountered about life here, and usually at a quarter of their original prices. Dorothy is not here to get rich; she is here to provide a true public service to those aware enough to seek the wisdom of history's greatest minds in figuring out why we're here and how to live a life of integrity and intelligence. She has given me so many great deals, and always with her wonderful smile and great vibe. It has always amazed me that I can never find mention of this place on goole or anywhere, and no one ever mentions it here in town. Dorothy and her husband have been running this place for decades, and apparently it has remained a well-kept secret. I hope this review can change that, as I can think of no one else in town who better embodies the Durango spirit than these two lovely folks. Their bumper stickers are also hilarious! Humor and wisdom go hand in hand... God bless you guys, and Buddha and Allah and Zoroaster too! You have brought a lot of love and light to our little slice of heaven, and I know I'm but one of many who are truly grateful that Under The Rainbow lives on as a beacon of intelligence in Durango.

They had a deep science fiction collection, far better than any other bookstore in town, and the prices were always reasonable. When I left town for college I sold my 2000+ volume collection of science fiction and fantasy books to them, and although I was able to use the proceeds to buy a much needed computer, I always regretted losing those books to do it. After 32 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, I moved back to New Mexico. My wife Valerie and I took a trip up to Farmington so I could show her where I grew up. Imagine my surprise when I found Amy's Bookcase still there! And bustling with shoppers! And with just as great a selection as when I was a kid! Better, if I'm honest. I looked for some of my books (which I initialed on the top edge with a black marker). I was a little disappointed not to find any, but I picked up a few well thumbed books that I remembered fondly from my youth and a few newer ones besides. My wife and I will absolutely be coming back when we're in the area. It's a great store run by fantastic, friendly people, and they have a lot more than science fiction to offer. We can't recommend Amy's Bookcase highly enough. Jeff and Valerie
