If I could give it more stars, I would! Since becoming a local, Maria's has become a part of my Saturday morning routine. Like today - I woke up early, drove to the farmer's market, picked up all sorts of delicious grass-fed beef, organic veggies, and farm-fresh eggs, then dropped off my goods at the car. I retrieved Aspen, my beloved Golden retriever (who hasn't made an appearance in my reviews lately but is very much kicking!), and walked to get a coconut mocha at the Durango Coffee Company. I left Aspen tied up outside, of course, for some much-appreciated pets from passersby. Of course, my (and Aspen's!) favorite part of these lazy, lovely Durango mornings is Maria's. Aspen is graciously welcomed on its honey-colored floors and he loves to lay on the cool wood while I sift through cookbooks and non-fiction. Sometimes, he even gets a dog treat. There is nothing more beautiful than a day in this town, and nothing completes a Durango day better than Maria's. Morning or evening, winter or summer, it is possibly my most favorite store in this town :) read more

Bookstores are my first love and that will never change. Finding a new bookstore is a really good day. I have been to durango a handful of times now and every time I go into Marias. Its amazing, I can go into Borders or B&N a million times and I walk into Marias and its as if I am seeing these books for the very first time. I always walk out with a book I have never heard of, hadn't planned to buy and absolutely loved. They have little comfy chairs too, I've never actually sat down but I imagine it is convenient for the wary traveler that happens to be accompanying me to the bookstore. Poor schlep, never knew what was coming. They are also dog friendly, which I can't say for a lot of bookstores. read more

Take that, Amazon! OK, "The River Why" is our go-to gift for fellow fly fishing or river enthusiasts. So over the years, we've bought many copies. That has become harder and harder on Amazon, where you'll search "The River Why" only to get redirected to "The River" or "A River Runs Through It." (Or a copy of "The River Why" for over $100.) So we assumed this classic was out of print. But after deciding to track down a copy for a friend in Durango, we gave Maria's a try. And BAM! Multiple copies of the newest edition on the shelf. So we bought two. So there, Amazon. read more

By far one of the coolest bookshops I have ever been to. It is independently owned and carries a A large selection of books. Not only that the staff put cards in the books of ones they recommend why they recommend. The people who work their problems on the most knowledgeable on current authors as well as past. We make it a point to support this business and buy books from them can't recommend it enough you should check out! read more

What a fantastic bookstore! Every single time I needed a book for school or for pleasure reading, it was either in stock or it was quickly ordered. It was nice to have an employee call me to let me know my book order was in; unlike large companies that "forget" to call you, and then return your order because you never came in to pick the books up. I LOVE the smell of books, so much nicer than the smell of a hot Kindle. Maria's even smells good! And bonus, there's a coffee place right down the street so when you grab a good book, you can go kick up your heels and enjoy a nice cup of Joe. There are book signings and other various events. Wide selection of eclectic genres, cool little gifts, postcards, journals, etc. LOVE the set up! Cute, quaint, little bookstore! Bravo, Maria's! Bravo. read more

I really like Maria's Bookshop. Their staff is very knowledgeable as well as helpful and attentive to their customers. Their available inventory is not always huge but that is a direct relation to their available shelf space. This, in my opinion, is not a big deal because they are always willing to order whatever it is that you're looking for. read more

Love this place! I am a total bookworm and have to have the book when I'm reading, Kindle and other digital versions do not cut it for me. Right on Main Street so very convenient when you are wandering around, eating dinner or whatever. Stop in and peruse their large selection, they have something for everyone! =D read more

Stopped into this charming bookstore when visiting Durango for the autumn arts and crafts festival. Although it is small, they seem to stock only the best. I love how they have cards displayed in books which are employee favorites. It helps to narrow the search for anyone browsing without a game plan of what they're looking for.... like me. They don't have a romance section, but it wasn't super surprising for the small town location and quaint setting. And I walked away with some great page turners! read more

We stopped in on a trip to Durango, and enjoyed the space, the vibe, the organization and helpful staff. They were setting up for an author's reading when we were in, but still found time to give us tips and talk about their recommends. We had finished our vacation reading, needed a resupply, and Maria's was the ticket. We'll be going back next visit. read more

I love coming in here. This place is a classic bookstore and is everything you want in a small town bookseller. I love that the floors and shelves are all wood, and the book smell is "just right". Not sure how else to describe it. Love the smell of new books! read more

I love Maria's. Having grown up in Durango, I shopped there all the time. Then I moved to Washington DC, and now live in Phoenix, and I can honestly say that a good local bookstore is one of the things I miss. Sure you can still find them in other places, but not within walking distance of my house. And rarely with as good an atmosphere and selection. Now whenever I visit my parents, a trip to Maria's is always on my list. And even if I don't need a book, I always end up buying (at least) one. read more

The store is very unorganized in my opinion. One of the staff members noticed my frustration for not finding what I was looking for and reached out to me only to confirm that they don't have it and instead of asking me if I wanted to order it online all I got was where are you from? When I answered I was told I am definitely a big City girl and Durango might no be the right place for me. Great way to welcome someone! The funny part is that I've lived in this town for over 4yrs. I didn't even ask for help to begin with and this staff member went out of his way to judge and belittle me. read more
